Nothing there is consistent. Some waiters there are better than others. Some are friendly, some aren't. Some are on top of their game, some aren't. Sometimes, the food is good and speedy, sometimes it isn't. While the food quality is between satisfactory and outstanding, I am disappointed in the size of the plate portions compared to how much I pay. Late-night is the best time.

To their benefit, the place has always been clean, spotless, and well-organized when I have visited. I have felt comfortable there based on those good details.

Overall, when I go there, I don't expect the best of the best, judging on my past experiences. This place is best for late-night dinner, compared to the other times.

If a waiter can be requested, I recommend requesting Zac. He is the best. He typically works nights.

I do NOT recommend going anywhere near Erik. He is always rude (more than one occasion). He is the worst employee there by far!

The Nicolett Diner offers a great "anytime" spot to grab a meal or drink - their signature spiked milkshakes are tasty at any time of day (I recommend the Avalanche).

Food was great atmosphere is very interesting. Too bad they had seats barricaded.. would've made the wait more enjoyable.

Awesome place! We heard about the diner and read their menu before going for lunch. Delicious! Open faced sandwich, build your own burger, and oh my the London Fog! Yummy! We will be back.

I don't usually review places but I just had such a bad experience there

It's like, you go into a restaurant and you haven't had the best night of your life but you figure at the very least you can eat something.

But not once did anyone come to ask me if I wanted anything to drink or if I wanted food. Like I'm at the front of the bar in front of all these waiters just WAITING for them to ask me. And I don't even wanna ask them because Its like if they don't even wanna put the effort in to serve me why should I even order?

So idk, this is just one bad experience but it was just the cherry on top of a bad night.

If anyone reads this review I would say just skip this diner and go to uptown. Its a mile further but worth it cause at the very least you'll be served

Terrible service. Don t bother. Showed up after they missed half the order and all details to correct it and the order was still wrong. The order was not complicated or picky in any way. I was cordial and understanding about it at first but now I know. I should have read other recent reviews about this place first.

I come here with my wife all the time. The food is quality, the atmosphere is fun, and the servers are always great for conversation.

Part of my Saturday ritual is picking up a new comic then coming here for breakfast. Food is not exactly 5 star but still pretty decent and affordable, also has a good atmosphere.

A solid 24 hour diner, great malts, wait staff is fun and engaging.

Second chance and they just failed miserably. Asked for a Coke, sorry no carbonation!... ok.... I guess that could happen, but when you get almost three bucks for a soda, it is very foolish to not have it available. Forty five minutes to receive food and they were not busy. The cooks plain suck at their job! Way too slow and unorganized. Asked for whole wheat toast, they were OUT. No Coke and no whole wheat. Wow! My friend ordered strawberries with his french toast.... they never arrived. My Omelet was very tasty, the server said, they messed up on the American fries so he wold be bringing out more because they ran out...... they never came! And it was so fricken cold in there I would have given $20 for a blanket!
Like I said, the first time was miserable, we convinced ourselves they had a bad day, so we tried again.... NOPE, that is normal operating procedures. They are poorly managed. Too bad! We could use more late night places, But I will NOT return.

The place has amazing character and delicious food. A must-visit of any Minneapolis visit!

The food was great and the service was friendly. They seemed moderately busy, but the wait for food to arrive seemed excessive. Overall I would go back.

The two stars was for the awesome staff and fast food. But once I got home with my 75 dollar order I was highly disappointed. My steak was rare so I had to re cook it and season it. Hashbrowns was burnt and I don't know what they call a 3 egg omlet but this definitely wasn't worth the money!! I usually go here for a breakfast burrito but I don't know now!! Only thing looked good was the English muffin, pancakes, and the steak once I cooked it some more.

My friends and I were desperately searching for a place to eat around 1 in the morning last weekend and that's when we stumbled upon this diner! Super cute place and my waiter was wonderful. The milkshakes we great and the food was awesome. Cozy set up and I could tell it would be fun to work here. Thanks for a great meal I will come again soon!

Worst service ever. Got there about 12:30 on a Tuesday. We were told it would be about 45 minutes for food. We decided that wait was ok. Almost 2 hours later still no food and no update on when we would get it. The excuse was they had a bunch of Grub Hub orders. Theres no way that many orders came in. Even if it did, why not work some orders in of people who are waiting at your restaurant. Ended up leaving without ever eating. Wouldn't risk going again.

Sometimes it's a little wait on a friday.. but totally worth it! amazing!!!!!

It's diner food, done right. The worst thing about this place are it's customers. I've never been to a place where the customers were so damn rude. I like Nicollet diner. Servers were phenomenal and food was great. GO HERE FOR GOOD DINER FOOD, BUT YOU BETTER BRING YOUR MANNERS, GOD DAMN IT.

Anywho took the homeowner's kids out to breakfast cuz this gal wasn't cooking. We had their southern cousin along for the ride.

Found paid parking across the street strolled in and was seated immediately. Not busy at all it was a late breakfast for us as no one wanted lunch yet. 11 am. Charline was the best, fast, efficient and outstanding in customer service. She brought 3 shakes topped high with whipped cream which pleased the kids. We had dancing construction workers across the street for entertainment while waiting for our order.

2 orders of a mega huge waffle and SUPER thick french toast with smiles all around. Biscuits and gravy, ya probably think the southern cousin ordered that but nope it was me! Food was hot, fast,
and hit the spot. All in all nice 24 hour diner with great customer service. When in the area,we will be back....

Very nice 24 hour diner, has some pretty delicious food!

Food was expensive, burger was $12. Burger was dry and bland, I would rather have had a McDonald's burger. When I asked that I get comped, as it was a terrible burger they refused. Wait time was long, and overall did not enjoy the experience. Will not be returning.

Great food wierd service, its like having zombies wait on you or indentured servants. The servers seem overworked and tired and calling in an order over the phone is a test of patience as you have to listen to a pre recorded message of how to order food for delivery thru Grub Hub and their delivery partners. As a working professional you dont have this kind of time to waste on inadequate capitalism.

3/11/2017: Some guy decided to treat a crew of homeless to breakfast here. One of them had a disturbing episode which wasn't handled by anyone. I think the food is still good but it's a circus now. 3 stars for freakshow environment.

2/4/2017: I've been here dozens of times and have never had a bad experience (amended) like what I've read in some of these reviews.

The quality of ingredients far exceeds what I would expect from a 24 hour diner. I could eat the Butterface shake every day. Try one of their skillets or the club sandwich. I think you'll like it as much as I have.

We waited 1 hour for our food. The restaurant was not that crowded. The waiter did not bring out 50% of the beverages until we flagged them down. We had to flag them down to get our food. They were out of steak and eggs. The waiter was forgetful and got most of our orders wrong. The food was okay, but the poor service and long wait time made going to this diner not worth.

Enjoyed everything from standard breakfast fare to an alcoholic milkshake--all good. Exceptional fried breakfast potatoes.

Very patient staff handled a large group of young dancers and their moms at 4:30. Then another large group of teenage dancers and their moms at 6:30 Perfect high top table that seats 16. There cannot be more demanding customers. Lol!! Tomato basil soup absolutely fantastic!!! Fries a combination of perfect crunch and salt. Full bar made it a happy adult event especially those sharing a margarita with and without jalapeno!!

Decent/average service and underwhelming food. Ordered waffles with fruit and it was warm waffles with cold pie filling.

The food is decent, very popular, and basically open 24 hrs.

I was in town with my partner to see my siblings gallery opening.

I m from the south, where gravy and fried chicken reign supreme. The Nicollet Skillet was the best thing I ve eaten in a long time. So much that I m still thinking about it, 2 weeks later.

I need to know the recipe for the gravy, I ve never had anything like it, and am considering moving to Minneapolis so I can eat it every day.

Wait staff were great, food was great, I ll be back every time I m in town, don t change a thing!

Wonderful food great service staff good music best diner in town.

First of all, our server was on point. She was friendly and chatty without being overwhelming in any way. Her timing was perfect which wasn't easy because half of our group arrived 15 minutes later. Huge portion sizes. All homemade food. It was obvious that the hollandaise sauce was homemade and it was delish.
PS... Don't skip dessert!! :)

I dont get to cities often, but let me tell you this is only my second time in this place and i CANNOT reccomend it enough!!! The food is great, the service is great. Its open 24/7. AND THE MALTS!!! I have yet to find anywhere that serves a better malt. If you need a good meal and are in therr area, go to the Nicollet Diner.

Kinda sad there's just a bad vibe in that place. When I walked through the door I felt like I stepped out of Minnesota and in to some average diner in New York, spent a lot of time in the customer service field and there isn't any here, today at least. First and last time. Food took forever and was average. Felt really mistreated by the little hipster kid with a black flat bill hat and crazy patterned skinny jeans rolled up who was their host, which didn't make sense, if your going to dress differently from all you coworkers (wearing nice blue jeans and shirt) at least have a nice vibrant attitude that makes people feel comfortable.

Food was okay. Staff moved incredibly slow, and I didn t realize that when I reserved for outdoor seating that there would be people chain smoking on the patio.

Good food. Took off stars because one of the art pieces for sale was blatant cultural appropriation due to using the sign language "i love you" and as a Deaf person it wasnt appreciated.

The pineapple on top of the French toast was good but it was the food that was kind of greasy

Tbh the service was not great. But got to drink a boozy milkshake while my girls sang karaoke and that alone was worth 5 stars. I used to eat here all the time when I worked downtown and always had great experiences. Hoping today was just an off day. We will go back for the all ages karaoke because who doesn't want to be able to take videos of their pre teen singing karaoke to save for when you need to embarrass them later in life?

Good food and great people watching. Friendly staff. Fun place.

The last two times I've went there the entire place smelled like poop.
