Great place to grab a pizza, a beer, and some live music. Very relaxed comfortable atmosphere.

Although the food was good, it wasn't anything to write home about. Neither was the service or the establishment itself. Just a typical bar/restaurant.

Food was good, but our server wore her mask under her chin the entire time. I m disappointed that Val s would be this irresponsible. It s unacceptable, and never what I would have expected from an establishment I frequent and trust. She interacted with all tables and many people without a mask. Even when we put ours on to interact with her, she neglected to pull hers up. This puts all of your customers at risk.

Food is good, pizza is excellent, and the beer is cold!

Some things never change. Poor service and low quality food is now compounded by non compliance with COVID regulations for their "outdoor" set up. Front of the building is in shambles. If you like dining in a parking lot and having your bartenders and servers not wearing masks when they prepare and serve your food and drinks by all means stop by. Bartenders in particular are sour and worthless. Go to Sea Bright or Red Bank and let this hole in the wall die a well deserved death.

This is our regular thankagiving morning bloody Mary ritual. Yea its crowded, but its a great place to meet friends and start a great holiday weekend.

I love the food here, the whole staff here are friendly and I always enjoy my time at Val's!

The atmosphere is great despite facist Murphy trying to destroy their business. Food was fresh and home made. Definitely going back.

I'm giving 2 stars since our first experience at Val's was fantsstic: fabulous food, excellent service, etc.

Our second experience is beyond disappointing. The entrees were "good". The Mussels and Linguine was fine, however someone in the kitchen must have realized they were low on sauce and added water, since I had tomato soup rather than tomato sauce. The linguini and clams was nothing like was nothing like last time.

We would have left "satisfied" if it had not been for the lack of service by our waitress (note: I say waitress not server, because of lack of service).
1)Everyone else got breadsticks except us.
2) She spent a lot of time dinking around in the bar 3) She would continually check on her other "money-looking" tables
4) We kept having to call her over.
5) We WERE going to order dessert until she decided the table just sat with a family of 6 and changing the TV channel was more important than taking our dessert order.

The only good person there was the hostess. She got our check for us, served our food for us, etc. Wish she was our server instead.

Since our waitress sized us up as being lousy tippers, she was right...we didn't leave her a dime and never ever plan on going back to that place. Diners offer better food and service for less.

I've been here many dozens of times and always sit at the bar and eat pizza. I can't comment on any other dishes but the thin crust pizza is solid. The sausage pizza is my jam and kudos for having a few interesting beers on tap like carton boat beer. If anyone is familiar with styles like brothers, Pete and eldas, or the old mad hatter.....this pizza is similar.

My "Cheers"...I love the Mango Tango wings and Tavern Salad with grilled shrimp.

I have been going to Vals for years, now I live out of state and go when I visit. The last visit the pizza seemed a little different and the cost seemed to double. If I was rating Val's 10 years ago it would have been a 15+.

Val's Tavern never disappoints. The food is great, the atmosphere is casual and relaxing and the staff and clientele are the best.

Easy to get a seat, fun to listen to live music, really good service and food and in a welcoming neighborhood.

Have to say- this pizza ain t what it used to be. sad. Had it yesterday and it tasted like Stouffers. What happened to the flaky crust and the sliced garlic?

So I normally really like this place and the food and pizza is always great but the other day we went for dinner to sit outside during covid and ended up not staying because the majority of the staff had no masks on. The bartenders had no masks on at all and a lot of the servers were wearing them under their nose and kept taking them off and on. It was just sad to see that they weren t keeping up with the safety precautions. Perhaps it was an off day and we will probably try again at a later point but was disappointed.

Went to check out the lobster pizza at Val's today . Upon taking a 45 min ride from staten island we found out for ourselves that it was just ok. Not worth the price of a large pie and should of gotten a small instead . Basically said a one and done . When coming from New York where pizza is King you need to up your game . Other things we had on the menu like the salads ,wings and occopus were tasty but nothing special. See for yourself if your nearby but that's about it .

Overall, the food was very good. The Val's Tavern burger was cooked to perfection, topped with delicious vegetables and paired perfectly with the fries. Other meals at the table looked equally delicious. So, everything seems good, what are the downsides? First of all, the atmosphere was very nice, however the booth we sat at was uncomfortable and not structurally sound. Service was okay, though I did not get a water refill when I so sorely needed one. All in all, it was a solid place armed with a myriad of TVs that serves delicious food.

Vals tavern is right up there with the best. They have been in business since the 1940's they make the best lobster pizza i have ever tasted, I brough one home one day and before I opened the box, I said to my self. What smells better the pizza or the lobster? I am still pondering that question.

Love the garlic not that have cheese in them so. Most of the dishes has a slightly different twist of ingredients in them that what makes there food stand out from the rest in my opinion

Great Pizza, burgers and pasta. Old school Pizza place with a great location. The staff all treat you like family.

Good beer, ok food, good service, ok price/value, can get noisy. Not the best Italian food, but better selection and quality than most pizza joints. Excellent draft beer selection. Can get crowded, especially weekend evenings.

Our favorite local watering hole. Solid food, great beer selection, Matt is a great bartender and Kevin (mgr) always makes you feel like family.

This is a great local spot that embraces all who enter. The crowd is friendly, the beer is cold and the pizza is stellar - what more can you desire from a local pub?

Great burger for $14 comes with cheese it's very very thick and tasty comes on a brioche bun with some nice steak fries that are delicious

Ordered the large lobster thin crust pizza that was delicious and was able to watch the Yankees game at the same time. Couldn't ask for much better. Val's has a homey atmosphere and we arrived early so it felt like we had the whole restaurant all to ourselves.

Regular stop for weekly dinner with friends. Great thin crust pizza and will accommodate any requests

Very cozy and quaint. Was there to see Bobby Bandiera! Always the ultimate crowd pleaser on Thursday nights! Staff very friendly and attentive!

Ordered pizza with half mushrooms and half pepperoni. Get the bill and they charge for whole pie with mushrooms and pepperoni. Ask the waitress and get told "that's the way computer bills it." A good pie but next time it will be only plain.
Next time come in and see 2 empty tables. Host would not seat us because we were only 2 and he might need the big tables. Walked out for the last time. It's a shame as I've been going there a LONG time.
