I drove 2.5 hours each way from Holland Mi. When the Dr saw me he asked what I was there for I told him , then he ask some family history and about my injury (something he could have found out from my records but that's fine) then we went true my medication and he wanted me to try a medication that I have been using for over a year but since he for some reason didn't bother to look true my records didn't know that .So he told me to get some blood work and he'll let me know if he finds anything, but I had blood work done a month ago so instead of getting directions from the rude staff I drove 2.5 hours home. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME. WE COULD HAVE DONE THIS OVER THE PHONE.

My father is a patient and I am a healthcare provider. He has received excellent care by his "red team". They have done a thorough and thoughtful approach and kept the family informed along the way. I am very impressed. This has allowed me to be his daughter again and not having to manage his care myself. Thank you red team for all you have done! So nice to be able to be his daughter again.

I love the people there. Hands down one of the best places to go for treatment in the VA system. I am almost always seen at the scheduled time or very close to it. It s always nice to see familiar faces and be remembered by a very nice staff that makes you comfortable. I go here for my RA, the arthritis clinic is good, and I ve had some tests done and procedures to investigate various problems I ve been having. Every time it s a pleasant efficient experience and everyone is professional and willing to answer any questions I have. The only thing that doesn t make it perfect is the wait time for appointments, because the VA is always so busy and booked up months ahead of time, but they have made great efforts and successfully got me in sooner when someone cancelled. I really appreciate the people at the Ann Arbor VA and thankful to this country for providing it to us vets. Even with my good health insurance, all my meds and tests would have me almost bankrupt by now. I don t know what some of the bad reviews are talking about, my experience has always been good and my doctors are always thoughtful and cautious with treating me, unlike others who just throw pills at you that end up causing more problems. With the care I get here and my team in Toledo things have improved for me over the last year and I m thankful for that! Yes sometimes it can be frustrating dealing with the VA, but these doctors see tons of patients per year and the staff has to deal with the same bureaucracy we do. I m fortunate to have alternatives since I can still work (thanks to these people), but I d rather go here than most private practice doctors.

To Whom it may concern,

To Whom it may concern,
As a veteran, I recently had to have a couple surgeries at the VA hospital.
I confess, I was somewhat concerned about how things would go. My concern was, of course, first for how I would recover and then how I would be treated.
I was pleasantly surprised.
From the time I was diagnosed, through the time I was released and even when I went back for my follow-up, My treatment was top-notch.
Dr. Jonathon Warner explained what the procedure would be. I would need two surgeries. I needed some pre cancerous cells removed from my skin and then, in a few days I had to have a skin graft by the plastic surgery team.
All together, I spent 12 days in the VA hospital in Ann Arbor in room B528
The surgical staff did a great job. They explained what would happen and when I woke up it was done.
They and the doctors came up to see and follow up with me. They stayed long enough to have real conversations with me. They asked me if I had any other questions.
I realize that they have rules and procedures to help them make sure they see all their patients. However, when they were in, talking with me, they didn't rush on to the next patient too quickly.
As for the kitchen staff, they were outstanding. In addition to being friendly, they looked after me and honored my requests for extra coffee from time to time.
I could not believe the high level of professionalism of the nurses, nurses aids and interns. My surgery was embarrassing have and to talk about. The nurses helped reassure me that it was just part of their job. None of them were ever inappropriate or unprofessional. They took excellent care of me.
I was very impressed with how soon they would come in if I hit the nurse button. I didn't have much pain, But when I did, and I called them, they did all they could to help me. I always felt that they wanted to be there. They never made me feel like I was a burden or wasting their time.
Dr. Ranganathan came in and checked on me daily I believe. In addition to dressing my skin graft, she was also very pleasant and professional.
Dr. Conkle was also very helpful and informative. I've spoke to a lot of doctors over the years. The bedside manner of the doctors in Ann Arbor is second to none.
I filled out many of the forms to say how much I appreciated a good number of the nursing staff individually but I'm sure I missed some people. I'm sorry I couldn't remember all of their names.
I am a student of leadership and I saw evidence of it throughout my stay at the V.A. Hospital in Ann Arbor.
I can not say enough good things about the way I was treated. Thank you all very much for everything you all did for me.
Most sincerely,
Steven A. Bedgood

Where as the staff give you the grestest care.... Dont waste you money a the cafeteria. The brother who used to work doing short order eggs, chilli dogs, fries used to do a great job. Fast and freindly. But now. The short order cook makes terrible eggs. He is very slow and can't multi task. The woman working with him is slow and un organised. People line up and wait for their food. Not because of socializing. But because the cook is slow! He can't do more than one thing at a time. Please, please, teach this man. Over medium is not runny eggs! If you can't make a egg right, your not a cook and need a different job.

We were in and out of VA Ann Arbor in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Saw the primary care doctor, had blood drawn, got issued a new ID care. We had the best service there. Everyone was friendly and efficient.

The call center for this facility is made up of the most incompetent, inconsiderate, and disregarding individuals ever. These folks do not even know how to cancel and/or reschedule any appointment and then you will showing on as a no show due to the critical and chronic level of incompetence and disregarding of its staff.

Bit of a strenuous experience I've had with the VA the past 5 years. During my time in service I was experiencing issues with my back, and found myself discharged in 2011. After which, I visited the Ann Arbor VA ER for further problems with my back and right arm; the result of this was a recommendation for my wife to massage my back. After seeing my newly assigned primary care physician and being told nearly the same thing, I found myself discouraged from this health care system and would not find myself back into their care for this issue (which I had learned to tolerate) until September of 2015 after a rather nasty car accident. I had been diagnosed with whiplash, and underwent physical therapy which did little good in remedying the more intense and bothersome pain, which was an intensified type of the one I had felt for the past 4 years at the time. The doctor was concretely opposed to running the proper imaging tests, even after the physical therapy had ended. After this, they found it suitable to run an EKG/EEG on my legs, although the nerve pain was primarily in my arms. Luckily, I found myself in the care of a recently transferred doctor in the past few weeks, and was more than glad to help figure out why I was in pain, not stick to a diagnosis; it's only because of her fresh status that I feel I got the care I deserve and can possibly be on the road to recovery, if the damage hasn't already been done. It's for this, and only this reason, I cannot in good faith give a 1 star status, because with perseverance you can get the healthcare you deserve through the Ann Arbor VA.

If you are a new patient to this hospital, expect to be: suspected of drug seeking; treated both poorly and condescendingly; lengthy, tedious, and impertinent tests. Furthermore, expect to see the current failures of the American Healthcare system on show in a grand fashion.

My husband switched his health care to the VA this year. In addition to taking for ever for an appointment, he had a terrible experience with an audiologist yesterday. She was angry and mean. My husband called her nasty . She took his broken hearing aides and told him she had no idea when he would get them back and blamed any delay on the mail. He received no paper work so he cannot follow up. He has been without the ability to hear for well for over a month and who knows when he will get his hearing aides back. So unprofessional.

I've always experienced great service from the Ann Arbor VA hospital system. I was especially impressed by the service I received from Stephon in Travel. He patiently answered my questions as he corrected a travel pay error. Thank you Stephon.

I will not go to the VA hospital downtown they treat you as inconvenience to their work load. This facility bends over backwards to get you the care and treatment you need. Kudos to the entire staff

I would give this place zero stars if I could. This place is the reason why veteran suicide is so high. They basically just repeatedly break you down until you give up out of frustration and walk out. The staff just rolls their eyes and says things like "well you know how the VA is". Words cannot express what a total failure the Ann Arbor VA is, and nobody cares (and probably never will). Old management seriously needs to retire already.

To to be fair, there are some really great doctors and nurses...and I'm sure us veterans can be rough to deal with at times. But as a disabled veteran, I wish I could sell my soul for private insurance to have a hospital that actually cares again.

The staff in the ER were rude, inconsiderate and had no concern for patient confidentiality. I went in for severe chronic pain and was sent away untreated. They did nothing for me. I am disgusted and will contact every representative and congressman and news outlet. I am disgusted!

Worst service ever. My mother had called several times to get my great grandfather into the gastrointestinal clinic for a swallowing test, but each representative she had reached was either rude and hung up on her or they were unprofessional and didn't know how to do their job. If I were other people, I would not call this company! Calling elsewhere from now on!

The ANN ARBOR VA HOSPITAL (in Michigan) is THE MOST AMAZING HOSPITAL!! <3 Because of an unfortunate "serious life crisis", I have been coming to the ANN ARBOR VA HOSPITAL, regularly, for the past 7 years! It has been a TRUE Life-Saving Experience for me!! <3 From the moment I enter the hospital, there are "Angels" that welcome me as I come in, "Angels" that work in every department (and, Yes, I have been in almost every single department!), "Angels" that volunteer walking around on every floor, and "Angels" taking care of Veterans, Everywhere!! <3 It is the MOST CARING, ATTENTIVE, SUPPORTIVE, HELPFUL, FRIENDLY, VETERAN-HONORING PLACE I HAVE "EVER" BEEN TO ~ I AM ALWAYS "EXCITED" WHEN I REALIZE I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT, and I ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE A "QUEEN" WHEN I GO THERE!! <3

I've been using the V.A. for about 10 years now and I love it, I've used private health care in the past and between the two I would pick Ann Arbor V.A. anytime. I would like to thank all the workers for their compassion and dedication .
Thank you.

SMH... if you need to use the emergency services here as a 100 disabled vet but have no way to make the hour and a half drive or the pain won't let you have to play Russian roullette with your wallet if you use a civillian provider. Why is this allowed? I couldnt get one person to give me a direct answer except you might have to pay if use non govt.

Nearly impossible to speak with someone on the phone to schedule an appointment. I left messages on several answering machines, some even with patient advocates, and STILL haven't heard back. Going on 4 weeks now. Garbage for customer service. Once you get past the scheduling, nursing staff is pretty good.

Overall I received outstanding care from the VA staff. I lost 50 pounds through to their MOVE program. My primary care physician is very outstanding. When I used the ER a couple of times, their service was outstanding, and my health issues were resolved.

The most incompetent and useless hospital and system around. Our country should be disgusted that this is how we treat our veterans. My 11 year old could make a better diagnosis than my father's so called team. His doctors rotated every few weeks which means zero consistency and follow through. An absolute joke.

I am not impressed with the service there. I still haven't received my meds. in the mail, I called Dermatology last week and left all my info on their answering machine. still no call back! And you wonder why the V.A. has a bad rap!

I'm 63 years old and never had any experience with the VA system in any way. However, I've always heard bad things. Well! I've just been exposed to the VA in Ann Arbor through an extensive stay for my dad, who's a Korean War Vet. I cannot say enough good and positive things about every aspect of the experience. Every staff member--from ER, intake, all the docs and nurses, social services, even parking attendants, etc. etc.--have all been exemplary. I'm 100% confident that my dad is in very good hands. I do, however, have to comment about the food, which is frankly like prison food. It needs some serious nutritional attention and the cafeteria is even worse. Both UM and Beaumont Hospitals have done a great job bring variety, diversity and nutritional options to their patients and their public cafeteria. I believe patients, staff and visitors would appreciate and benefit from a serious overhaul of the food options available at the VA. Other than that, carry on!!

Great care by great people, every time I have been here. They make us veterans feel like we are part of a royal family. They really do care and appreciate us as veterans. to Thanks to the VA in Ann Arbor. Michigan

Overall they are good. I would not say great as it can be a month or more to see the doctors. My knew is bad, and I had to wait a month to see my doctor, and then 6 weeks to see the department that gave me the shot for my knee. They can spend millions on the new 'welcome center', why not spend it on more doctors instead?

I have consistently had nothing but problems with this VA. I have to drive over an hour to be seen by them. There has never been a time where something isn't wrong. Whether they cancelled my appointment and forgot to tell me, or forget to fill my prescription and never mail it to me, or many other problems I consistently have with them. The staff has a bad attitude, the doctors I've seen are bottom of the barrel type, and it is a nightmare every time I have to go. I can't get calls returned, or prescriptions filled. They are absolutely horrible.

Just spoke with the operator while looking for my father. He was short and very rude acting like he was being bothered! "Nope" is not an answer when asked again if my father was there!

Needs reform, It's a U of M chop shop, for the kids to cut their teeth, no accountability. Primary doesn't (care). They all talk about patients in a negative fashion, but refuse to share discuss the needs to provide care and treatment.

If you complain, they put you on the super secret squirrel list referred to as the NAD list, Neglect Abuse and Discourage

The best VA facility we have been to. Always attentive to my husband's need. The purple team and Dr. Hoover are the best. Two stints with doctors that come from the U of M. Wait time is similar to a civilian doctor's office. It is easy to contact the doctor through my healthevet web site and they are prompt with their answers. I wish I could go there.

I left my paperwork from the doctor at the hospital after my appointment. I called to see if I could retrieve it. The person I talked to on the blue team was very short with me, said she couldn't help and hung up on me. I don't know why she was so mean. I recently became a patient at the Ann Arbor VA in July. The staff is amazing however my only complaint is, my physician ordered a sleep study done for me as she suspects I have sleep apnea, and it is now 3 months and I am still waiting for them to even call me to schedule an appointment for it. I will be starting midnight shift very soon and will likely have to decline the appointment because I won't be able to get the night off to participate. The rediculously long wait time for appointments is the only reason I am not giving 5 stars. Everything else is incredible.
