Truly the best museum I have ever been in. From the first moment workers made it a personal experience and communicated the story. Each room and exhibit was incredibly thought out from floor to ceiling.

Because of this it was a truly humbling, reflective, and moving experience.

Everyone visiting DC must go here.

There are a few interesting artifacts and models, and they tell the Holocaust sorry well. However, more than half of the museum is just reading and video, things you can get in books and on Netflix. Hopefully, they'll continue to procure more interesting items. Also, they seemed to want to force commentary on refugee and immigration policy, ignoring perspective of the time. That was very out of place, and it's bad story-telling. Just tell the story.

Daniel's Story: walk through his house/life (with a couple video) as his world is turned upside down by the Holocaust. Hard to fathom 6 million people being killed that way.

A couple actual survivors volunteer their time to visit and take pictures.

It's a great museum but definitely a different kind of experience. Rather than gawking at the bones of a massive dinosaur, a famous painting, or a spy plane, you're looking at the history of the genocidal acts of the Nazi regime. You won't walk out with the traditional sense of "wow, that was awesome" despite the fact that this is an awesome place to visit. It definitely makes you feel closer to the atrocities committed upon the Jews and other groups, it makes it much more than something you had to read about for some class back in school or something you saw on the history channel. It's definitely not a place that small children will appreciate.

I am fascinated with anything related to the Holocaust, so this museum was top of my list for my visit to D.C. I spent about 2 hours here and could have spent a few more. Being able to view this troubling time in our world's history was a truly humbling experience and I am changed by my time in this museum. Go out of your way to spend some time in this museum. You'll leave more connected with the human race and more appreciative of the need for love and respect for human life.

God bless the Souls who where lost for no other reason than they where themselves. The hate that was brought forth is still here today. Love is the only power that shall overcome. We have the power to be one in God, bless this nation and all the other nations of the world!

Tears and tears.

Tears and tears.

We got here about 3 pm and they were out of permanent tickets. I recommending getting them online or coming early in the morning and grabbing a slot in the day. They seem to go fast. We were finally able to get some. I d give yourself 3 to 4 hours.

The impact of this museum will hit you hard. We planned something fun afterwards otherwise I may have curled in a ball and cried all evening.

The only compliant I have is that there were a lot of loud gradeschool/high school students walking through on tour group. It didn t ruin the experience for me but it definitely made me want to remind them of what was going on around them. On that note, the photos are very graphic. I don t know if I d want my gradeschool child seeing them.

I saw a connection with nowday Syria and the political implications. Maybe despite popular opinion the right thing should just be done.

This is a must for any DC tour.

Very good presentation. Sad (obviously) but it will reaffirm to your teenagers that what they learned in school (and that their teacher DOES in fact have some knowledge) wasn't just some boring lesson. Some very graphic movies and images, so prepare your little ones before you go in. It does take a full half day to do it justice. The cafe is good... although a bit overpriced.

Very educational. My family and I were there 4 hours as I really wanted to read everything and learn, but it came to a point to where it was exhausting so I would suggest visiting on more than one day if you really want to learn everything that is offered.

A beautiful, large and well-structured museum, although initially it seems strange to see a Holocaust museum in America. Different plans that tell the different historical moments, so walking along them all you can go and play the story of a Jew.

It's a long line to get in but it's worth it. We studied the holocaust in school but there were tons of things I learned there I could never imagine. This is a must see whether you care about it or not. Oh, free tickets

Very well designed. Really captivating and possibly one of the best Holocaust museums. No one does it better than Smithsonian. Not to mention it's FREE. The tours could have been a lot better though.

Tons of information here. You could spend hours looking at the displays, reading the info graphics, watching the short movies, and looking at artifacts from actual camps.
If you need a scooter or stroller to get around, definitely bring it. There is a lot to see here over four floors.
Great educational experience for teen/tween age kids too. Devastating info and images, but definitely Must Do when you're in D.C.

I do not have the proper words to describe the feeling that comes over you when walking though this museum. This is a history, a series of events, that should never be forgotten. I encourage everyone to experience this and take something meaningful from the lessons learned.

Powerful and sad. It was hard to go through all the exhibits, because of the sensitive content. The displays are put in such an order that you naturally flow from one exhibit to another. Plenty of seating along the way. Interactive exhibits throughout.

Very moving and informative museum. Lots of stories and rare videos. Loved the reading about and exploring personal stories. Lots of exhibits throughout the museum. We needed 2 days to see everything as they started telling us to leave at 5pm.
We were a bit confused when we first went in as we didn t know how the museum flowed. There s elevators to the left side when you enter that you should first go up and make your way through the museum. But we didn t know that. just thought it was just an accessible elevator, so we took the stairs to some exhibits. But didn t realize till after we saw some aftermath exhibits. But it would ve been better to see those after the top floor exhibits.
Also there s security to get into the museum and all the museum cafe (the cafe isn t in the main museum, it s a separate building with a spectate security). But I d say the cafe was just okay. Nothing that special. Would have eaten elsewhere if we weren t so hungry.
Anyhow! Definitely recommend as a museum to see if your visiting DC. And it s free!

This is one of the best museums I have ever been in. It was very well organized and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The lines was long waiting to go through security but it was worth the wait once you got inside.

A must see for anyone who has a soul and a heart.
Make sure you arrive with lots of time to take in the whole exhibit.
It is a moving experience and helps one to understand how this all happened.

This Museum was absolutely amazing I learned so much that I did not know. If you have sensitive children or a sensitive person the third floor can be a little difficult. And all I am so glad I was able to experience this and I look at different nationalities a lot differently now. Thank you
