A great place for history enthusiasts. It shows and tells you all that happened before, during and after WW II.
This musuem so effectively depicts what it wants to convey to visitors that one comes out of the place fully inpressed.

My daughter requested a trip to DC and the Holocaust museum for her 16th birthday. A girl after my own heart.
A must go...a shocking horrific reality that will leave a lasting scar on your heart and hopefully compassion toward those who suffer much worse than ourselves.

It sounds weird, but I love this museum. It is a very somber look at a horrible, despicable time in human history. There are many different exhibits to walk through, from a child's perspective to a thorough timeline of what lead up to the Holocaust and beyond. I've been twice now and still have not seen everything. I will be going back.

Can. Not. Say. Enough. This place can be life changing if you let it, or you can walk through as though you're a rock. I don't recommend the latter... It would be difficult, and a serious waste of time. There's fantastic information and a great message for everyone who is willing to learn and leave a better person.

The story of Daniel, from a child's point of view, was well done. Our 11 yr. old grandson read all the papers out loud to us. I think it helped him understand what Daniel what life was like . When coming to the museum , I highly reccomend seeing this area first. It is on the first floor.

Beautiful and stunning. No food or drinks of course and phones should be on silent because it is a memorial. You will want to be at the near front of the line for the sit down "movies" to ensure you get a seat. You will need about 3 hours to be able to appreciate the full museum.

Very eye opening experience. It takes around 2 to 3 hours to get through the whole place, but it's worth it if you have an interest learning about the holocaust. Just a heads up for military, if tickets are sold out for a certain time you can show your military ID and get yourself and your family in. For everyone else, make sure you reserve a ticket if you go during their busy season (March through August I believe). Clean bathrooms throughout the exhibit.

A great museum. My friend found a pregnancy test in the bathroom garbage while taking a poop. The museum provided a great memorial to the many lives lost in such a terrible time, and is even there for those who hope to make more lives.

This is an amazing experience. This is a very emotional museum experience and one that should not be missed. If you have young children, be prepared to do a lot of explaining. Some of the images and items in the permanent exhibit may be disturbing for younger children and will definitely prompt questions - so be prepared with answers!

I know its free but there are only pictures mostly of nazis, few documents and maybe 2 exhibitions and no artifacts. So dissapointing and also very overcrowded, temperature was so high that I had to leave.

Is a great place, really well organized and all the rooms are thought to make us think about the past, the present and what not to do in the future. After the visit you will want to take a break and just relax because is an strong experience.

For us it was well done, but not new and no less unsettling than it should be. I think it's a very important memorial, because we must never forget what happened there. We must not ever let it happen again.

Very informative museum about a very serious part of history. Very respectful to all that were victims of this terrible time. Getting tickets can be difficult, but once you get in the museum is great.

This place makes one walk out with a completely different idea and perspective about WW2. No country is innocent in this. I hope we all can learn from this. It is very walkable from the Smithsonian metro stop. Getting in was not bad. Do not take young ones to this museum as it can be scary for little ones.

The journey of the Holocaust is emotional. Yet experiencing uncovered trauma, video, and secret documents. Supposedly to have been burned by s.s. officers. Luckily the documents that were saved recites the awful war in a scaring reality that is written like it was normal to nazi's. But horrible if you opposed their belief, and we're titled a demon in disguise.

It's a long line to get in but it's worth it. We studied the holocaust in school but there were tons of things I learned there I could never imagine. This is a must see whether you care about it or not. Oh, free tickets

We were so amazed and humbled by our experience and trip here. My husband and I could have stayed there all day exploring and reading all the exhibit material displayed there. Was a little bit difficult for my mother who has a harder time walking and standing up for too long and my younger daughter who couldn't grasp the full magnitude of the experience. But this is a excellent museum to visit and explore.
