I've been in Yad Vashem and other Holocaust museums from Europe to South Africa and can say that this one hits the mark and does an excellent job in chronicling this tragedy. The coverage of how social norms and pressures evolved a society that would allow this to happen are very relevant today. However, it gives comes up short in covering aspects pertaining to how the USA and Americans in general responded. It also fails to adequately point out how other genocides have taken place and how they continue.

Very historical place, isn't very well organized and was crowded. No signs to understand how to get around. The gift shops are very overpriced and don't have a lot of selection. My 2nd time there and was actually better the first time. A must see in Washington.

I would recommend going right when they open to pick up tickets. The Memorial Museum is free but they issue tickets to control crowds. We picked up tickets around 10am and had to come back at 3:15 because they had already given out earlier ticket times. Plan on designating at least 1 1/2-2 hours to see all of the exhibits. Definitely one of the most important pieces of history and museums to experience while in DC.

An absolutely incredibly intense museum that puts the visitor in the situation of the events then and really thinks about it. Here at the museum uses original objects from the time like the door to a gas chamber or the stones that had to carry the concentration camp inmates in agonizing conditions. Absolutely great!

This is a museum everyone should visit. The intense exhibitions, unique items on display, the heartbreaking stories and in-depth interviews are of the highest level. You must take your time to see it all. Rushing a visit denies yourself a valuable lesson.

It is difficult to view the atrocities yet is valuable for us to understand what happened and why. This museum also goes further to point out how atrocities like human trafficking continue to this day. It helps raise awareness and teaches what we, as ordinary citizens, can do to help end it.

Informative, disturbing, but very respectful to the victims of the Holocaust. A must-see for anyone visiting DC. I have never been in a museum more impactful and dedicated to it's mission. It was truly remarkable and something I'll never forget.

The United States Holocaust Museum is a MUST SEE when visiting DC. First off, the tickets are free but they require getting them the day of (so get there early to get a ticket). The staff is really amazing. The main exhibit is very in depth and very information. It goes through like a timeline of the events. The Americans and the Holocuast special exhibit was fabulous. The kid-friendly exhibit is also a good exhibit for children. The gift shop has some amazing items.

It was a great museum. If one is not familiar with the details of the holocaust, a lot can be learned here. It would have been better if the material had properly classified Hitler's politics rather than trying to create the impression that it was similar to our politics today.

Wonderful, as be always. New to me the material focusing on what was happening in the US during the 30s and 40s. And after a room on stateless Camp survivors and others...DPs to use a description that sounds archaic today ... was a room dedicated to Syria.... plus la change .

Shocking, excellent Museum rich in information, not only of the Jewish Holocaust in Europe and part of Asia, but also on cases such as the genocide of Rwanda, Yugoslavia and more. Interactive, many videos and free

A very humbling place to visit.

A very humbling place to visit.

We walked in and got the exhibit tickets (permanent exhibit is free, just walk in and ask for tickets), we got our ID card and were put into an elevator. The museum is beautifully and elegantly designed. There is meaning behind a lot of the things they do. For example, there was a plaque saying jewish people couldn't walk on roadways that weren't marked as Jewish so they had to walk across a rickety bridge that was built over the street. After that plaque was a wooden walkway that you have to walk across with cobblestone underneath, mimicking the bridges. That's brilliant.

They also have heart planning with some of the material. Knowing that some of the things would be inappropriate for younger audiences, they built raised walls so that little eyes couldn't see it with parents approval. The only down side to that is that people in wheel chairs can't see it.

A very, very humbling experience that everyone should visit atleast once in their life. This is the best holocaust memorial museum I've visited and I'll never forget it.

This museum is remarkably well done.Go early to be sure to get tickets for the permanent exhibit. The tickets are free but limited. Military personnel and veterans are admiited even after the ticket limit. You will leave with a somber mood but know the truth of this wretched time in our history. A must see whole in D.C.

An incredibly well done museum telling the story of the holocaust. It is very detailed with personalized stories telling the entire story of the events that happened. It is very heavy material so I would not recommend for small children but for more mature children it is very educational.

I can't really articulate the impact this place has on me. I can't say I loved this museum because the subject matter is so sad, but it's a truly moving place that offers an experience that every American should have. The parallels between the rise of Hitler and the Nazis and extremist movements in modern-day America are critical to recognise, and we must never allow ourselves to be lured to hatred and intentional ignorance.

The atmosphere, the setting, the sounds take you into the past. Strong impressions and awareness of the tragedy of that time remain. Everyone should visit the museum to understand that this should not be allowed to happen again.

A haunting & powerful museum. The exhibits are beautifully laid out multi-media to demonstrate the atrocities of the Holocaust. They give you the scale, which is so often hard to comprehend, along with the sequence of events. They also have barriers to some videos that protect the visitor from scenes that are too much for some people to bear - especially children. You can hear from survivors. It is a heavy trip, but well worth every moment. One of my students said, "I wouldn't say it was fun, but it was meaningful. I have a new understanding of what happened."

I have visited Dachau years ago and was worried that this museum would not have the same effect on me. I was wrong. They did a great job telling a story of how and why while still personalizing the experience with stories of individual's experiences through the holocaust.

Beautiful structure filled with visually stunning displays of suffering, surviving, and thriving accommodates very large groups. I have been twice and saw much the second time I had missed the first time. It is easy to spend the whole day in there.

It feels awkward giving a holocaust museum five stars. Very emotional. Very educational museum. By the end of the time you spend their you feel like you can't take anymore of it. But as soon as you feel like that, then you realize what horrors all these people went through, you end up feeling slightly ashamed for feeling like you can't take anymore of it.
