It doesn't feel secure. They don't respect people and the area...

There is no parking yet they have one of the largest parking lot around.

The Embassy of the United States of America to Kenya, located in Nairobi, is home to the diplomatic mission of the United States to the Republic of Kenya. The embassy opened in central Nairobi on 2 March 1964, when the United States established diplomatic relations with Kenya.

Great security and professional attitude. From the security guards at the entrance of the parking lot, through the gates to inside the buildings, they are the most professional and courteous people. Everyone is amazing there and so professional. The mailroom clerks are so helpful and go above and beyond. Thank you for an amazing experience.

Won't even let you in the door without an appointment. What a huge pain in the ass, and a disservice to US citizens.

The united nations HQ in Africa is such a nice place of intrest. makes you believe that one day you will work with them in the nice environment. ;-)

They never give me back documents that I submitted such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, and first page of the passport application.

The American embassy is Kenya is really beautiful. Security is tight (obviously) but the security staff is really professional and friendly. Though I have read past reviews speaking harshly of the staff, I personally did not experience any form of unprofessional behavior from the staff. The only somewhat negative thing on regards to the this place is that it is cold....very cold so I would advice everyone to dress up warmly. Extra warm. Also expect a bit of a waiting time, approximately about 1-3 hours, something that is expect considering the number of people who are there to be interviewed. All in all I have nothing but positive things to say about the U.S Embassy in Nairobi. I would also caution all who read the negative reviews written on here, be sure to take the criticism with a grain of salt. Though each persons experience is different, some people intentionally choose to leave a negative review purely out of spite from having been denied a visa. Good luck to all.

Hello , anyone still waiting for the interview dates with the embassy since last year march after case approval?

It's awesome, excellent services from check-in security gate and inside the reference centre.

Good security, I like the structure however they could improve it a lot more... most of the waiting is done outside where it's usually really cold in the mornings.
One thing I noticed is that it's a first come first serve basis, doesn't matter what time you had your appointment (they are usually early morning hours) as long as you get there way before time you'll be one of the first to get out. If you're an early bird, it doesn't really take long. You'll be in and out within an hour and a half.

The process of applying for sea man crew visa for cruise ships sailing to U.S waters was seemless and very efficient. As long as you complete the DS-160 form application online. The 160$ processing fee can conveniently be paid using Mpesa. After which you will receive a confirmation for the same via mail after which you can book an appointment with the available slots. Personally I recommend going for early morning appointments as the Nairobi traffic can be hectic. It's best to give yourself an allowance of at least 1 hour if your coming from town or westlands. The best way to get here is by motorbike hands down. It's fast n you can avoid the traffic along Limuru road. Uber and bolt charges anything between 400 to 600 depending on where you board from. On your appointment date avoid carrying a bag pack or unnecessary electronics. Stick to the required basics. A folder to accommodate all your papers should do. Bag backs and electronics such as ear phones will not be permitted. Incase you have to have a bag pack there's a guy a few meters from the facility who for a fee will temporarily store your luggage. Most importantly carry enough supporting documents to support your visa application. If you submitted that you have kids ( have the birth certificates) if you claimed to be a business man your income statements and bank statements ought to be at hand and very critical legit. The process is smooth, precise and very simple if your cause is legit and has the required documents. For sea man crew you will require your passport, a passport photo as per the defined standards set out on the U.S embassy website, a copy of the visa support letter from your employers/sponsors, a copy of the contract. And any other supporting documentation that may be relevant to your visa. Punctuality never hurts. All the best to everyone.

I don't know what the Kenyan embassy think of themselves by ignoring folks whom are trying to reach out all the way from the united states and can't seem to get a hold of them.
I mean what type of embassy sits around ignoring calls and emails as if we don't matter or deserve answers why do they even have an embassy in a country like that who don't know how to take care of business or take their jobs serious?
They don't care about what goes on or what needs to be done in order to keep an embassy running let along answering to the public handling visa or processing people properly or fairly.
How terrible is it to suck at your own job do to not only corruptions but recklessness laziness and lack of professions.

Security is reassuringly tight, services upto and excluding the interviews is spot on. For paid services, there is nothing to applaud about the interviews. Sure enough, they give priority to children, the elderly and other spcial groups, but that's as far as dignity and respect goes. My interviewer was utterly rude, ignored all evidence and support material that the instruction documents asked for. Plainly, she said she did not need to see any documents. My interviewer asked me very personal questions, so loudly, I wished for more privacy. After two minutes and a no. She refused to answer a simple polite question. Saying there were others on the queue. I now have two pink sheets, that are so generic, i have no idea why i was denied visa and what to do next. A word to the embassy, perhaps review the video interviews and see how some of the interviewers are unaware that they are actually talking to human beings who deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and the customer service they are paying for. The process may be built objectively, but the interview tears it down to seem very subjective.

They do not deserve even one star. More correption is also going on. The embassy is one of them. I say this is the worst. They don't help their citizens.

I like the atmosphere here. There's a lot of gentlemaness. But security is insane. Can't take photos, you have to be escorted in and out, surveillance cameras all over.

For all Visa and Immigration services regarding the United States localities. Now you have an idea.

So many people waiting for appointments and not enough seats. Had to stand for an hour.
Staff at the waiting area are super helpful though.

Very unhelpful and at times unfriendly contact persons on the phone. Operators redirect you to the wrong department mid-sentence and then a contact person may hang up on you.

Consultes don't have time for ur supporting documents.

I just like visit the place because for my childhood have been trying to tell my mom that one day I will travel to the white men country that is that about, because I love travel anywhere in the world

The United States Embassy in Kenya is a really nice place, the security is really tight as you can expect and the staff are really professional. From the gate there is order and things run really smoothly. their service is really good and people are served on a first come first serve basis without preference to certain people.

Its busiest ever at reception. And security too tight.

Annual 4th of July bash at the Ambassador's residence. We are so thankful for Robert Godec and the amazing work he has done (for y years!) here in Nairobi. A great American. Of all the holidays here in Africa, this one makes me the most homesick.

I wish they had a sitting are outside before you get to the security area. There may be long queues and when it's raining, you may not like it here.

The embassy and its workers, both Kenyan and American work to keep people moving through at a steady if some what slow because of the mass amounts of security. They have been willing to help us get passports when we desperately needed one. Make sure to bring all your paperwork and remember the your phone will be stored at security while being in the embassy.

I was not allowed in because I was escorting my husband who is an American to pick his renewed passport and I was told I have no business there.

avoid at all costs....guaranteed to waste time here.
