Urban Saloon Review

The place looks really nice, the lighting makes it easy to make your night a romantic night or a fun night out w/friends. The restroom (lady's) was clean and well illuminated. Nice tall tables, great service, good beer and special drinks... but now, let's talk about food: god it sucked. I asked for the Mexican skillet and Idk where in the world ppl think that Mexicans use American cheese, I mean I know is cheap and has a bright color but it tastes like plastic, YELLOW CHEESE IS FOR HAMBURGERS and NACHOS, that's it !!!that's it, don't use it for anything else P-L-E-A-S-E

Favorite bar in fairmount with the best bartenders. Jackson makes awesome drinks and will take great care of you while at the bar.

We loved this place and unique menu. Best thing? Our bartender, Eric! Taught me all about the bitters used in Moscow Mule. Don't think any other place I've had one used them.

This is one of my neighborhood bars and it has all the same pitfalls that plague sports bars. It is loud and bro-y and gets crowded quickly. Plays host to many annoying seasonal bar crawls.

But here s the good news: the bartenders here are pros. Even when the place is packed to the gills and you have to use sign language to communicate, Eric can get you a drink. The environment at its best is fun and lively and if you are up for it, it will work for you. If you can t handle it and you want a chiller bar there are a few right down the street.

Always tip your bartenders.

Wow you need to try the burger, that's why this gets 5 stars instead of 4. The black and blue burger is delicious. Really great meat quality. I also had the hot spiced apple cider w bourbon and it was perfect for a chilly night. Price is as expected for the neighborhood about $25 per person w drink.

Came to this place with 4 people in my party. Bad management! Not enough waiters/servers when it gets busy so you feel neglected. Food is mediocre. You get what you pay for. Just make sure what you get is what you ordered and if it isn't say something immediately. Menu is misleading in regards to price for certain meals and drinks and what you actually will get with your order. While the prices are fair, they nickel and dime you for every little thing. Don't order a pitcher of beer because rather then charging you per pitcher, I guess they charge per glass drinking out of the pitcher? Any other bar I have ever gone to, beer pitchers are a set price and you get list of beer options that come with it. Pretty simple! According to the menu here pitchers are a set price, staff pointed out selections, but then made up their own calculations and try to put justifiable reasoning behind how they charge you based on the # of people in the party drinking out of the pitcher apparently? It was and still is very confusing and misleading and didn't need to be for a party of 4. Check your bill to make sure you're charged the correct amount. Thought this place had an ok "saloon" concept, but based off my experience they lost my business as a customer.

Fantastic beer selection. Food is as good as you can find in the area. While all the bartenders are great, Jackson excells even among such excellent peers; quick to notice your empty glass and fill it with any one of Urban Saloon's draft beers, or a specialty cocktail. Not enough good things to say, but you may not find a better old fashioned in the city.

Good beer. Good food. Good service. Ton of stuff on draft too.

Adequate. Standard bar fare with a decent draft list and acceptable food. Nothing spectacular but also nothing too disappointing. It is a large space so probably good for bigger groups and there are tons of TVs for watching sports, if that is your thing. Service is good.

Great on a Thursday when they have trivia. It has solid food and a lot of TVs for a decent country sports bar feel.

Local sports bar. Space is loud. The employees are helpful.

Boring. Draught list was lousy. The most exciting beer they have is yuengling

Top notch spot! Was in town with my lady for the Eastern State Penitentiary Ghost Tour and this was a welcome place with great jerk chicken wings and wine. Ample TVs to check college football (was a Penn State game day!). Cool atmosphere with an awesome staff. Would definitely go there again!

Yesterday's brunch started out great. We ate outside and had excellent food, and a server who was attentive, but read that we were on a date and was not intrusive.

When we finished our meal we wanted another drink but it was getting chilly, so we paid our bill and moved inside to the bar. That is where it all went downhill. The excellent food, nice server, and courteous staff is the only thing saving the bartender from forcing me into a one star review.

This gentleman was straight up miserable. We were greeted with a grunt, we were barely acknowledged when we spoke to him, and he never even made eye contact with us. And it wasn't even busy!

I asked a simple question and was treated like an idiot. Now, I tended bar for 15 years, so I know how to act at the bar. I don't need a smile or even conversation, I would just like to be treated politely when I'm spending $13 per cocktail and $7 per beer. I did not deserve to be treated this way.

I don't know if this gentleman was having a bad day, or the "miserable bartender" is just his schtick, but it wasn't cute, and I was not amused. I will not be returning because, if management allows one staff member to treat guests this way, I can't risk having another expensive meal ruined by by being treated like an a@$hole. This guy should be shown the door.

Great place to watch our local Philly sports teams killing it while enjoying good food, good drinks and warm hospitality.

Probably ppl who wrote a good reviews about that place don t have a good taste.

And not about mention food... food for dogs.

If you look for a calm and cozy place, that's not a good choice for you. But if you're just tired of silence and looking for a place to feel alive and seeing a lot of people with a little of human noise and crowd, yes that's a great choice and that's why we visit there.
I haven't tried but my friends and family always mention how good the quality of wine is.
The food is really good and the price is even better for that healthy good food.
Salmon is a little sweet with pineapple taste and sweet potato puree on the side. I didn't like it. But I really liked the salad.
Soups are the BEST definitely recommended.

Food is awesome. One of the best vegan cheesesteaks I have had in the city

I didn't enjoy my food. The hummus plate came with cold and tough pita bread. I thought the dressing on the vegetables is unnecessary, then I tasted the hummus. My baked Mac and cheese was salty.
Their beer selection looks varied and people seemed to enjoy them. It's unfortunate I don't drink beer.

Consistently a good place for brews and bar food. I like how much space there is inside. Never feels crowded. Also, they ve got a big beer menu

The food was terrible.. No flavor.. Not sure how grilled cheese can be messed up.. They added some other type(s) of cheese. Yuck.. No flavor.. My bf had a pulled pork sandwich and said it had no flavor either.. Took a while to get asked about our drinks.. Wasn't pleased..

Best burger I've ever had. Every place I go I get a burger and this one by far topped them all. Wish there was an urban saloon in Chattanooga

Friendly staff and quick service. Cute outdoor dining setup with heaters, TVs, music and it s dog friendly. Highly recommend the grilled cheese and tomato soup and the Irish coffee!

Come here every year after terror behind the walls and everything is always perfect! Love the atmosphere, food, staff, all top notch!

My friend and I had a great dinner there. Good drink selection and prices based on what I've seen in town. We both enjoyed our burgers, and the smashed red potato side.
There was one glaring problem though, which is why I couldn't give the full 5 stars. One of my potatoes was literally rotten. The rest were great, but among them was one whole and unsmashed red potato. The outside had black spots , and when cut open the potato was completely black inside.
It was very obviously a bad potato at just a glance, and I am not a potato expert, which is among the reasons why I do not work a job where I cook and serve potatoes to paying customers. I do not expect every cook to be a potato expert, but I do expect them to know more about potatoes than me, so the cook was either not paying attention or didn't care that they were serving up rotten food. Either is a problem.
We brought it to a server's attention but nothing was really done about it. With the other options on the street, I might try somewhere else before going back.

Food was good and service was good. The only problem is with the outdoor sitting is close to the road and you here that noise. I do not blame them for that those.

Of all the bars on fairmount ave, this one is my least favorite. The bartenders were not doing their jobs well. They kept verbally telling customers saying that they were making them strong drinks, but I'd watch them and they'd put approximately a splash of alcohol, not even a half or full shot, and then fill all of the mixed drinks with juice and flavoring. Again and again. I was sitting at the bar sad for the people whose money was being wasted. And two women asked for a flavorful but strong drink when they came up, and the male bartender with the long hair put in coconut Malibu (a weak liquor) and mixed it with juice. Just lies and horrible service to customers. Disappointed. Stick with beer. But I gave this 2 stars because my burger tasted good. Small, but good.

We has ou high school reunion here CHS Class of 09. The atmosphere was really chill and laid back. The bar was packed.

I loved everything about the club, we were treated like royalty. Nephews birthday, food and service were out of this world.Also it was handicap accessible, I am in a wheel chair.

It was a cute bar. They gave me Bunny ears for Easter which was really cool.

Fun, local and yummy food! This place can get crowded on the weekends but has a fun atmosphere overall. Worth the stop

Great city centre bar: lively, with a great drinks range. Those with special diets will be pleased with the food menu: plenty of vegan & gluten free options. We had the cauliflower wings & brussel sprouts and even though neither of us are vegan, they went down a treat. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Only did take out here that's why only 4 , but food was always good & staff always friendly & helpful

I m giving a two solely on the fact that our waitress was nice and the atmosphere wasn t bad. Me and my boyfriend both ordered Philly Cheesesteaks, and they were just awful. No flavor at all. Completely bland meat. Not a hint of any type of seasoning. Not even the cheese had any flavor to it. It was without a doubt, the worst cheesesteak I had ever had. And for $14?? I took the 3/4 of the sub that I didn t eat, even though I still had to pay for it, home to my dog and took the onions off and gave it to him. I wouldn t recommend the cheesesteak sub, at all. It s not worth the money.
And also, it s $3.50 for a lemonade and $3 for an unsweetened tea in a cup barely bigger than a bathroom cup. And we weren t offered refills, whether free or not.
I fully regret deciding to eat here. If you enjoy bland, overpriced food, then this is the place for you!

Food is decent, space is nice, but beer pours are weak: thick bottom glass and 2-finger heads ensure your $6 pint is 14of or less!

Good food, served hot. Flank seak with eggs was served perefectly. The french fries were hot, crisp and flavorful. The room is very noisy so talking was difficult. The temperature of the restaurant was quite warm on a hot summer day yet matched the excitement of the clientele. Shannon, our waitress was wonderful and attentive. Will return.

Me and a friend came in and asked for a table. The hostess was on her phone. She looked up lazily and said there were no tables left. But my friend and I could clearly see a clean empty table. The hostess returned her attention to her phone so we sat ourselves. A waitress came over pretty quickly. Meh.

We ate at the Urban Saloon on 12/30/18 and I became violently ill within an hour of eating. I had a mediterranean salad with salmon. I have never been so sick in my life. After three weeks of feeling terrible, multiple doctors visits, ER trips, and loads of testing. I was diagnosed as having Giardia parasite as a result of food poisoning. I reached out to the restaurant and initially received no response. I called and asked to speak with the manager and then received an email offering to send me a gift card to come back and let them make it right. At a later point when I was diagnosed with a parasite- I reached out again and explained how severe it was and received no response! Do not eat here! Spare yourself the risk of getting sick- I wouldn t wish how I felt on my worst enemy! The lack of response from their management team just added insult to injury. Beyond poor customer service combined with dangerous food!

Urban Saloon is a cool bar with a good beer selection. Come for a drink but eat somewhere else. Their food is just not very good. I've eaten there twice and neither time was good. First was an overcooked dry burger and second was an old tasting roast beef sandwich. Even the au jus tasted like someone over heated it in a microwave.

Good spot for a beer in a historic building across from Eastern State prison. but good luck getting a spot at the bar or even a seat anywhere during the fall months when the haunted house is going on at the prison

Went here for happy hour with a friend. The beer list is okay. I had a cocktail that was decent but didn t really taste much like the menu description. My friend and I shared some happy hour food specials. The food was far better than we expected, the brussel sprouts and mac and cheese were especially memorable.
