Worst customer service I've ever experienced at a gym!

Majority of staff (with a few exceptions) seem depressed all the time and have no people skills whatsoever. Makes the experience very bleak. To make such little effort makes them appear over-entitled, as I'm sure there would be others out there who'd love to have their job. Also, very little self awareness - one proceeded to wipe down and clean my squat rack while I was using it in the middle of a set - very dangerous!

It's a shame that because this is the only gym at uni UQ hasn't put any effort into their customer service, as they know people have nowhere else as convenient to go. Also, very little cultural diversity in the staff pool. This facility certainly doesn't fit with UQ's usual high standard!

This is an amazing gym. I used to go there when studying at UQ. I recommend going there early in the morning, weekdays. There are not too many people around and you're free to use whatever you like. A little pricey, but it's worth it. To me, at least

Wonderful fitness center. I visit this place to play social badminton. There are 6 badminton courts and social games are on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Zumba dance classes are popular among students. Basketball and Squash facilities are superb. Staff and students are entitled for discounts and season tickets are available for general public. There may be a break during semester exams.

My friend was physically assaulted and discriminated by a member of the gym and the staff did nothing about it. Left a complain with my details for the manager to cantact me back and he never did. Besides that, the place is really basic and in bad shape. Only good thing about it is the weightlifting area down stairs. Wouldn't want to be there again!

Only reviewing the cardio and weightlifting part, there are many other facilities. The gym is big with many different machines and free weights on 3 floors. The ceilings are quite low, which some may find unpleasant. It is busy even between semesters. The changing room and showers are bare-bones but serve their purpose. There are air conditioning units, but in the weight rooms these are off, at least in the winter, and the windows are simply left open to the outside air.

For the last 2 years I have been going to the UQ gym at St Lucia which has lead to a significant improvment in my core strength and overall body progression. The 12 month membership is quite afforadable and given the state of the art facilities provided, it is that much more worth it. The gym has 3 floors loaded with cardio and weight machines as well free weights for bench press, squats, curls etc. Most of the gym is air conditioned and a number of water bubblers and cleaning spray bottles are located on each floor. Furthermore, throughout the gym there are a number of tv's on each level showcasing professional sport from around the globe which I enjoy watching between exercises. The changing rooms are large and the showers and toilets are kept in good condition. The gym staff are very friendly and are more than willing to help out if I have any problems. As a UQ student at St Lucia usually coming in 5 days a week, the gym facility proves to be very convenient for me as I can go to the gym between lectures or tutes during the day. Overall I give the UQ gym a 5 star rating.

I had membership before in UQ sport fitness centre for around 1.5 years, and I liked the facilities and the way stuff gives you advice about health. I went there plenty of times to play badminton and to do swimming as well. I was going to buy a gold membership this summer, but my friend bought a gold membership which he didn't use it for once, and he left Brisbane, so I though I would transfer the membership to my name. There are other fitness centre in Brisbane where there are rules for transferring membership, so I went to the uq fitness reception to see whether same rule applies there. The stuff were discussing the rules nicely, but I didn't like the way one of the stuff, JOHN GARCIA, was behaving. He was acting like I am intentionally breaching rules, and he took my friend's ID card as well. Like, you don't take ID card like that and make an insulting remark like 'anyone will use it later'. He could have disable gym access and return the card back. If I were intentionally breaching rules, I wouldn't come to reception, asking for transferring membership in the first place. If the membership was not transferable, I would have bought a new membership at that moment, but the way John Garcia behaved, I lost my interest to get another membership. If you don't know how to treat your customer with deference, please don't do job in reception and ruin there name. But look, overall there service and facilities are excellent, but I didn't like the way John behaved at that moment.

They have platform where you can do Olympic lifts, they have bands for you to stretch and do assisted pull ups. Gym is in 3 floors which the top floor has a lot of cardio machines including stairmasters, rowing machine, elliptical, treadmill and stationary bike. The price they charge is pretty fair and you can opt to only pay for things that you need. Recommend this gym if you come to campus often or you live around the area

Signed up for the UQ Gym - Fitness Centre two years ago and it's safe to say that this place is one of the best fitness centres Brisbane has to offer. There are three levels stocked with top quality fitness equipment, and all the equipment are regularly maintained by the lovely UQ Sport staff. The staff working at the reception and inside the gym were very helpful, providing me information about UQ Sports faciliities before I made the decision to sign up.

The gym offers a friendly / judgement free environment that is clean and well mainained by gym staff. The price of the gym is also very affordable when comparing the membership prices of other flagship commerical gyms around Brisbane. The UQ gym facilitated any fitness goal I had in mind, whether that would be losing / gaining weight or developing my cardiovascular endurance.

The best Argentine Tango Course you could ever find is run at the University of Qld through UQ Sport. The best foundational skills you can ever imagine to get in Oz that you can apply later to any other dance, like balance, posture and musicality. Fabulous team of instructors!

I would like to take a moment to write a brief review for UQ Sport Fitness Centre. As a fitness fanatic, UQ gym has meant a lot to me. Started from 2014, a freshman until now 2017, 3 years later, everything from the friendly staff, the clean and safe venue to the modern equipment have always been excellent and exceeded my expectation. In addition, every time you renew your membership and every 6 weeks after that, you have access to 1 hour of free personal training session where you have the decision to select the trainer and the time that suits you. Furthermore, old torn equipment are regularly replaced to maximize gym goers' satisfaction, safety and workout. Finally, unlike other commercial gym, there are appropriate weight lifting platform where dropping weights are appropriate and screaming as you lift is encourage :)

UQ has by far the best free-weights section of the 12+ gym's I've been to in the past 3 years, it really couldn't be more perfect - weightlifting platforms and squat racks for daysss. The trainers are incredibly friendly and always willing to help out with their top-notch advice. Come here during off peak times for an absolute screamer of a workout in a clean, well equipped gym.

Great set of classes and access to equipment. I do feel that for a uni this size, the facility should be much bigger. This is reflected in how packed it gets during semester periods and you struggle to find free space. The classes are well taught and otherwise it's great.

The referees are really bad, every one changes the rules according his point of view. They don't have yellow, blue or red card and in an important decision they don't know what to do. The fields are really nice.

I've been training at this gym for almost 2 years ...

I've been training at this gym for almost 2 years now.

If you'd like to be a member of a gym that has cold water fountains available then you've come to the wrong place. They're all broken except for the 2 in the aerobics room.

Would you like to train in air conditioned comfort? Again, you've come to the wrong place. The bottom floor is air conditioned by the oldest, crappiest looking ACs I've seen. The 2nd floor has no air conditioning at all. The third floor has some AC on one side and they've decided to inexplicably leave every single window on the other side open. They might as well just be throwing money out the window. So much for an environmentally sound campus right?

Seriously this is a real problem. After having just gone through the hottest summer on record in Brisbane, I can't do another summer like this with no climate control. Add to that some seriously stinky members... there's literally 2 that if I see them anywhere, no matter what my program is, I won't train near them. The smell makes you want to vomit. Management should speak to them but if you thought this was a well managed gym well... have you been reading this review?

Look, I love the yoga sessions but I can find yoga anywhere. I would be happy to keep training here if they'd just fix the dam AC and water fountains but it has literally been two years and they're still broken. Add to that dirty and uncleaned equipment, things that stay broken for weeks on end and you really just have an embarassment to the university.

It should be closed down and renovated and everyone working there should be at the least re-trained. It's the worst. I'm not renewing when my membership runs out. Life's too short to train in a place like this.

Gym and cardio: Great free weights section with 9 ...

Gym and cardio: Great free weights section with 9 power racks and all the weight you could require. They have 1.25-25kg plates and enough room for oly and powerlifts. Unfortunately they only have one safety rack bench press but you can always setup inside the power racks. They have plenty of generic barbells(20kg) plus a deadlift bar, a 15kg barbell, a 25kg squat barbell, EZ barbells and one trap bar. They have all that you could need for mobility. They provide chalk tubs that are always filled up with a sizeable block. The most useful part of the gym (free weights) has AC but it isn't needed anywhere else because there's plenty of fans and nice cross breezes.

They have too many machines, so if you like to have your bar path predetermined jump right on one. They make up for this by having plenty of benches and dumbells up to 60kg. They have an adjustable dip station, 3-4 weighted belts and two adjustable chinup bars ! They have one incline bench, two decline and 4 flat benches. They have 4 leg presses and something quite rare in a gym these days: seal row/high bench rowing bench. Plus most normal pieces of gym eequipment e.g smith, leg ext, curl machine, lat pulldown, assisted chinups/dips, cables, tbar, ghr, glute bridge stations (free weight and machine assisted), preacher benches, abdu tor machine, calf raises, boxes, bands, ab wheels, mats etc...

Plenty of cardio machines but I would rather go outside for that haha.
All in all 5 stars and much better than your average commercial gym.

I ve had a gym membership at UQ Sport Fitness Centre for over two years now, and looking at how far my fitness has progressed since I started, I can definitely say that it s been worth every cent. The price for a membership is affordable when compared to other fitness centres. The range of equipment available (including exercise balls, dumbbells, weight machines, squat racks, weight lifting platforms, and more!) caters to all different levels of fitness, and makes UQ Sport Fitness Centre a great place to both commence or continue one's fitness journey. In addition, the gym staff continually ensure that all the equipment remains clean, safe and in good condition, with any old equipment replaced with fresh new ones promptly. The friendly staff members are always dedicated to ensuring you get the most out of your experience, and are especially more than happy to help with any queries you might have about technique, etc. and provide you with their top-notch advice. Best of all, members have access to free PT consultations every 6 week. I've had both Jack and Tyarra as my PT. Both Jack and Tyarra have unwavering passion and a vast depth of knowledge, ensuring that I am getting the best fitness program that s tailored for my specific goals and needs. I can definitely say that without all this, I wouldn t have been able to realise any of the fitness goals I set for myself.
