Recently had a lumbar laminectomy at Upstate, and I am completely floored by how wonderful the whole experience was. From surgeon to housekeeping, everyone was super helpful and polite. I did get a little 'tude from a lady who was bringing me food one evening, but that is the extent of my displeasure. I would absolutely, and without question, recommend this hospital for in-patient surgical procedures.

The guards at the ER were very nice. Since I couldn't go in with my mother, they took her cell phone in to her to keep in touch with me, and later a charger after the Dr called me to say they were keeping her overnight for more testing.

Easy to get to the right parking garage

Easy to get to the right parking garage
with Google maps. Signage within the garage and hospital could be better but lots of friendly people to help.

My dad came here after a bad fall. He broke his neck. They took great care of him, and within 3 weeks he was walking, feeding himself and they released him to the VA for more PT. I could not believe what they did in 3 weeks! They saved him and he loved all the nurses and physical therapists that worked with him. Thanks Upstate!!!

This hospital is awful! I had a car accident. Driver crashed in to my husband and I while we were stopped at a red light. Due to the impact I broke my neck and I have a brain bleed (had to go to other hospital for diagnosis). At upstate I had 11 pseudoseizures. Upstate sent me home with a recommendation for Tylenol and a spinal surgeon referral. I as well as my husband kept staying my head was throbbing. They did nothing to address that matter. When they discharged me my husband refused to have me leave because I was still seizing. The nurse smacked me in my face several times to get me out of a seizure (everything was video recorded on my husband's phone). They kicked me out of hospital and left me seizing in parking lot of er in the rain on concrete with my husband panicking. Thankfully 911 transported us to the V.A. where a CT scan confirmed a brain bleed and a mri confirmed a broken next seventh vertebrae. I am in the process of suing upstate for medical malpractice. If you want to live and be taken care of I suggest you stare clear of this hospital.

Wish I could give negative stars. The only time we really got good care was when we decided to put my mother on comfort care. The switching of doctors all the time was the worst. A new dr so often meant the dr having to learn the patients history and that is not effective at all. And then families have to understand a new dr and how they do things and somehow trust in a matter of minutes. I will never go there again...Ever!! I will say the Childrens Hospital is amazing and they do great things. They should separate themselves from the rest.

Let me start of buy saying I'm currently from outside the state's. I started a cross country drive from California to Syracuse new york. 3 days in the drive I came down with a very bad appendix sickening. Vomiting every hour almost on the hour. On the part of the trip we decided to try the st.louis we. Poor quality. 3outta 5 for them. They're goals was to just get people out. They pumped with fluids and sent men on my way. 2 day laters symptoms worsen. So my wife decided to take me here to the ER room and upstate syracaouse. First of services was fairly fast. I mean granted people are gonna wait on you hand and foot. But almost all nurses were will to help. I was in the ER for 2 days before being moved into a room for further care. I've been here 7 days now and each day has gotten closer to finding the issuses. Yet to have given up and even if they don't know the answers they alwa6s willing to find it for you. Nurse service is excellent. Deffintly a good hospital to go to . Rooms are shared sometimes but I'm te kind of person who is compliatably with anyone.

Really fantastic and fresh seafood. We had the happy hour special (oysters + beer), clams, sea urchin + toast points, ceviche, main course of scallops and the mussels/fettuccine. No desert but they gave us a small dish of tasty pound cake which we enjoyed.

Oysters, clams- so fresh! The two apps- good and fun to try, but will be trying other things next time. Really enjoyed both entrees :). Satiating. Tasty, filling, hits the spot type of food. Love it and will be back :)

Administration thinks it's okay to block off multiple parking spots in the main entrance to force people to park in unsafe situations or use their valet service. Why is this even necessary? All people want to do is get their prescriptions and leave. Nonsense.

My was shot and placed in this hospital, the docto...

My was shot and placed in this hospital, the doctors that performed his surgery was great! After my son was released on the floor, It became a nightmare, I have spoken with one of the charge nurses and she was very rude! I spoke with the social worker and she was also very disrespectful! I was attempting to have my son transferred to the hospital in my home town so that he needed. The social worker stated to me that "he was not her son!" People are being shot on the South Side by drive by shootings and other random shootings. This is where he was shot! They are releasing him into a danger situation with no care and concern. He has a nephrostomy tube attached to his kidneys, and a catheter inserted which has to sty there for 6 weeks. I tried to get the social worker to help with placing him in a rehabilitation hospital so that he would have help changing those tubes, and making sure that he don't get infections. The entire staff needs to be fired and replaced with quality caregivers, As nurse myself, this is the poorest patient care given from some of the nurses, charge nurses, nd social service workers that I have ever seen! This report is just the beginning of the actions that I am going to take to see that the right people come through and correct this situation, starting with the CEO!

Excellent place to get medical attention and mental health help. The doctors and aides are so extremely nice. Food was good as well. Overall it's a great hospital and does research and clinical trials.

Typical America....greedy capitalist pigs..wouldnt help me...fake referal. I would recommend google if you have Obama Care. If you are poor you wont be helped here or at any hospital in this country. Its sad how selfish our fellow citizens are.

Strictly speaking solely about the available food ...

Strictly speaking solely about the available food in this medical facility, it is absolutely, atrocious. Most of the "food" that is served in the cafeteria here has been determined, by the World Health Organization, to be Group 1 Carcinogens, aka carcinogenic to humans. Additionally, at the entrance of the cafeteria there is a sign that clearly states that the foods served are labeled as "Fit", "Vegetarian" and "Vegan" yet I did not see even one of these labels on any of the foods. It is sad to see that medical facilities such as this, quite literally serve it's employees, patients and visitors the very foods that cause the consumer to contract illness and disease.

I took a Covid19 test at the NYS Fairgrounds and they did an excellent job! Test on time and orderly. The appointment was set up in a minute by phone and I had my test results within 8 hours! Doesn't get any better than that! Thank you Upstate Med.

Suny upstate accepted my son as an er transfer and then put us in a room where we sat for the next 12 hours waiting! They were extremely busy that night but still accepted our transfer instead of being honest about the situation and allowing us to find faster service elsewhere. My 11yo son was in pain and was told not to eat or drink due to his "upcoming" procedure. He has now been 20 hours without any food and about 15 without anything to drink! The staf

I have nothing but good things to say. I have been to this hospital multiple times for multiple different things. My cousin was hit by a truck, was barely clinging to life and they saved him. My son has had surgery here. My daughter was treated for meningitis when she was 2 weeks old.. Nothing but good! Staff is very helpful and doctors take the time to sit with you and make sure you understand everything you need to and they address your questions. The nurses have GREAT bedside manner. +++++

Everybody was absolutely fantastic. We couldn't have asked for a better experience considering the circumstances. Everybody from Doctors, Nurses, Receptionist, Security, Housekeeping, Kitchen staff, and even the lady at the booth in the parking garage, literally everybody was very pleasant and very helpful. A very kind and caring Hospital all around from our experience and I thank everybody so much!

My 13 yr old daughter was sent here by ambulance after she fell 18ft out of a tree... apparently at her age and that height, it is classified as "possible trauma" (even though she appeared perfectly fine with the exception of her wrist hurting). The good: the staff was friendly and when I asked if there were nearby snack machines, they offered my daughter food from the pantry. The bad: unfortunately the pediatric emergency room personnel didn't do any of the tests we were told they would. Anytime I asked something of the desk staff, one member in particular had to look up from playing candy crush on her cell phone. The ortho who set her broken wrist didn't offer any pain meds, nor did anyone else (granted they offered her ibuprofen an hour before they even knew her wrist was broken). After I requested meds, it still took 1 hour to get them - meanwhile she was in excruciating pain. The pain meds were finally administered as I was signing her release papers. I expected more/better.

My grandson was in the ER for 9 hours. They dragged their feet. Lazy is the word. Not busy, and don't complain because they will make your visit even longer. Specialist couldn't even get IV in after trying 6 times. Poor baby was screaming. Good luck if you have to go there!

This is my fourth surgery at Upstate and what an experience all four have been. The care, the comfort and compassion not only to me but my wife and family. Especially during this time with the obsucals of the pandemic. Sometimes you feel like hell is all around you but you have the comforting staff, atmosphere of University Hospital, Syracuse!
Thank you!

Emergency room is absolutely atrocious. You will wait for 5 hours... Never less than that as they need to rack the hours in order for the bill to be nice and juicy. They will do a rapid nasal swab (takes 5-10 mins everywhere else) and keep you waiting 2 hours for result. Then will give you a tilenol and send you on your merry way. Wait for the 10 000 bill then by mail.

Peds Service was beyond slow and no personal care for the patient (daughter). It took an hour and half to see a resident doctor and another hour of just waiting around. The doctor never came back, no one checked on us so we left. I'd take urgent care over them

My mother was sent here from Oswego Hospital after...

My mother was sent here from Oswego Hospital after being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. By the time she was admitted into Upstate, she was on a ventilator and was not able to breathe on her own, due to the cancer in her lungs. She was admitted into the MICU unit at Upstate and stayed there 6 weeks. During this time, her care was second to none! The RN's in the MICU unit, Kim, Grace, Steffan, to name a few and every single one of them, were amazing! The care was so personalized, at times I felt as if they were taking care of their own mother! The nursing staff expressed a great deal of compassion for what my mother and her family were going through, which I thought was awesome! The oncology team was also great, her cancer is incurable and very resistant to radiation but they did everything they could for her and laid every option on the table for us! The MICU doctors, in particular Dr. Manta, were excellent at explaining what was going on! Being that I am not educated in the healthcare field, they cannot simply read charts to me and have me comprehend them. Dr. Manta and the rest of the MICU team took as long as necessary to explain the details and made me feel much more informed! The palliative care team treated me very good, I was traveling 45 minutes each way to get there, almost everyday. They gave me fuel cards to ease the financial burden and food cards for their cafeteria/cafe. Normally, I would never eat food at a hospital but I must say, even the cafe is good! Received a substantial discount on parking, which helped A LOT over the course of 34 visits. I cannot comment on the ER or any other branch of the hospital but as for MY experience at Upstate, I will say it was an excellent one! Unfortunately my moms insurance company forced both the hospitals and our hand at making her move to a nursing facility, she is struggling there now. Wish she could have stayed at Upstate, recommend this place for anyone who needs care for a serious ailment!
