Upland Brewing Co. Review

A favorite of mine and can't go wrong with their burgers and original Upland Wheat. Be prepared to wait for a bit if it is busy, but it's worth the wait!

Awesome place to try many different sours and fruity sours. Beer is there specialty! The pork tenderloin sandwich was tasty. The fries were excellent!

Great beer, average food.
After trying a few beers on tap and not impressed , I found the harvest ale. By far my favorite, refreshing and light which went well with the average burger I ordered. The fries were well above brew pub standard, just like the friendly staff. Will return, perhaps stop in for a growler.

Such an amazing food selection, the spinach artichoke dip is the best I've ever had and I am an aficionado. Also please please try the horseradish poppyseed sauce. I asked my server if he recommended the pizza, and he said no, and I ordered the pizza anyway. It sucked. Honest staff with good intention.

Really good beers and great food. Big seating area, and outdoor seating. Service is always fast and friendly.

Best food, best beer, best service. Even after a busy game day in Bloomington, Upland is always top notch!

The chips and artichokes dip was good, the firey chicken sandwich, tenderloin and pulled pork were all good. Server was very good.

Was our second visit....arrived before the evening rish and was immediately seated on the patio. That was the fastest service we had all evening. Took 15 minutes for a waiter to approach, another 12 to get drinks. Water glasses were dry mutliple times and we had to flag down a waiter for refills. Took 45 minutes to get food. One entree was completely wrong; one had fries instead of requested chips. Ordered the chips as the fries weren't Gluten Free. When my plate arrived with fries and I asked for the chips, he said "oh, we are out, I thought it would be ok.". Um. No. After all the positive reviews I really was expecting a much better experience.

Have had two unsatisfactory service experiences in a row and felt the need to voice my opinion about upland.

Getting this out of the way. Love the food, above average/great beer.

My last two trips to upland both waiters/waitresses were condescending and patronized is for asking questions about the menu.

In the first bad experience one of my friends ordered a beer at the bar, brought it outside and was yelled at by our waiter. It s not her fault there was no indication she was not supposed to do that and he reacted very aggressively. But I probably could have predicted something like that was going to happen based on his poor attitude towards us from the start of the night.

The second bad experience involved the same kind of attitude. My friend asked a question about the menu and was treated like he was 9 years old. I ordered a pitcher for myself (I m poor and it s cost effective). Drank it over an hour and a half with food, and wanted to order another beer. We had another friend show up so we were going to be spending more time at the restaurant. We were told that it s a house rule that once you have a pitcher you are cut off. I have no problem with this policy, but felt it to be very inconsistent that the same waitress had served me 3 pitchers in one sitting at a prior trip to upland. Put a damper on the night as this rule was a total surprise to us, never having it apply to us before.

Beer flights were awesome and cheap. The bartender also offered another 5 or 6 free samples of beers to try. The food is always great and I can't wait to go back

Always a good time. We always sit at the bar. Love the food. The chili is always spot on. We have bought some of the artwork there as well. We try to avoid it around Friday or Saturday cuz it's so busy.

Pleasant knowledgeable wait staff. Quick service and good food. Will return when in town again.

I did not try the food but the beer selection is awesome and the to-go grabs are perfect for gameday!

Good service, good Thai salad, nice proportions (I ate twice from this salad, though I can imagine coming in hungrier and eating it all, too).

Love the vibe of this place. The beer is good and the outdoor seating is great in the summer. Most of the menu is really good. My only criticism is that the meat on my Hoosier tenderloin sandwich tasted like it hadn t been seasoned at all before frying, so there are a lot of better places to get that Indiana favorite, but the buffalo wings, Cuban sandwich, fries, and spinach artichoke dip can all be highly recommended instead.

The food ...the beer....good as always.

Service was awful. Didn't bring appetizer. Was not busy at all and took 30 mins to get drinks. Burnt burger, sent it back and got another burnt burger. Was very unapologetic when confronted server about issues. Won't return, was worst experience ever.

Totally disappointed with the whole process. I had the tenderloin sandwich and fries. The tenderloin was absurdly small and flavorless. I had to go home and actually eat another meal! This place has gone downhill over the years. Overpriced and inadequate. I won't be back.

One of my favorite stops in bloomington. Wonderful food and beer. My only complaint would be the limited parking.

Tried the Cherry Sour they had on tap and it was pretty good. The place was busy but the service was quick and super friendly.

Super casual but good food and great beer brewed right behind the bar. Try their Malefactor, a Belgian sour beer that tastes like a good sherry.

This place is hip, friendly and modern. The selections of a beers a well-priced and the locally sourced food is prepared is high quality. Their homemade dressings and sauces are rich and flavorful and I especially liked the homemade bratwursts sausage.. the flight of beers is only $9 for 7 kinds. They even brought me a small sample of the sour beer that's not on the tastings sample.

Their Kindred sour is one of the best sour beers I've ever tried and I've visited many of the best breweries around the country.

The appetizers are meals in the meals are meals, the real cool thing is you can see the brewery right across from you them working in there and everything

Horrible service. Hipster heaven. Don t expect customer service skills here. All the staff acts as if you are lucky to be in their presence. I literally had a bartender tell me in person Why did you make me answer questions about the menu over the phone to you if you were only a few minutes away when I arrived to the restaurant.

Will never recommend or go back. Oh and the food is flavorless and pretentious. Epic fail.

I've never had such poor service and food in an establishment that had a 4+ star review before. We took our son down here for college and decided to try a local favorite, worst idea ever. Their food is bland, beer is subpar at best and the inability to cook it how you order it properly just made our experience that much worse. We waited more than 25 minutes after making the complaint and nobody in management came to investigate the problem. The waitress even walked by our table 7 or 8 times. I had to locate someone to find a manager myself to take care of the problem. After talking with management the issue was resolved, but I would not recommend Upland in the future and will never return. Please do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to eat.

Awesome beer, awesome food. The vegetarian options are fantastic.

Wonderful beers, solid menu and a great atmosphere.

Had lunch here today and it was particularly exceptional because our server (whose name I didn t catch!) was so helpful with my dad. He had part of his larynx removed in February and can t swallow food, but likes to chew on the food the rest of us eat on the rare occasion we go out for a meal instead of taking it home to eat while he uses his feeding tube. He also loves beer but it s too thin for him to swallow.

I asked for a mug that he could use and our server brought one over and then another server brought over another when the first one filled up. You helped bring a sense of normalcy to two parents visiting their son at school and it was absolutely wonderful. Mystery servers, thank you thank you thank you!

Also the food was delicious and hot and I ll definitely be coming back.

I ve never been treated this poorly at restaurant that I can recall. Our server would only acknowledged one of us at our party of six. After bringing her a beer and the rest of water she left us twice without asking if we wanted something else to drink, and she proceeded to go to her other tables and take their drink orders. Our appetizer that we had ordered when my friend ordered her beer arrived at the table before we were ever asked if we wanted anything to drink. We proceeded to flag down the server and I admit I loudly said We want to order something too! After she took our orders a manager came over and proceeded to tell us they reserve right to refuse service to people who they believe have been drinking prior to coming to Upland. After he said this he then lied and said he could hear us from all the way inside the restaurant yelling at our server. Mind you I said 1 loud sentence. Also as soon as he said this you could tell he immediately knew that he was looking at 6 sober women dumbfounded by what was happening. We calmly said, ok thank you please cancel our food we will getting dinner somewhere else. He immediately went into apologies, but my friend explained to him it s fine the damage was done. Before anyone gets defensive of this server half our table are former servers and one is a current bartender. We know what s it like in the service industry so we are very aware of what to expect service wise and know the way we were treated would never have passed if we had pulled what our server did. The moral of this story is we offended our millennial server and the manager without investigating the situation or observing our behavior accused us of being drunk and yelling and making a scene and abusing our server. I hope most people wouldn t experience this when they visit here, but we will never be back that s for sure.

Wow, such a good time! I wasn't prepared for the massive amount of amazing beer and tastey food! I've been going here too long though cause now they got me bussing tables. It's my own fault, I shouldn't have filled out that piece of paper... guess I ordered the wrong APP LMAOOO

Booked Upland's event space for our wedding reception. The staff were absolutely wonderful, made sure everyone was happy with food and drinks the whole night, and even sent my husband and I home with leftovers and a bottle of wine they had packed away for us.

We live in Washington, DC, so planning was less than easy for us on many things because we could not see places beforehand. However, Kelly Hogan made sure to send me tons of photos and even a floor plan showing different ways we could arrange tables in the space. She emailed back and forth with me a ton, and made planning from a distance as easy as it could be.

They were also very accommodating of dietary needs - we have some family and friends who are vegan, I myself at the time was vegetarian, and they had dishes available for all dietary needs. They also let us bring in our own desserts, so we brought in cookies rather than a cake.

They don't set up decorations, but it was easy to figure out a time where we could send people to set up for us. They were very flexible in helping us plan all the set up and tear down. They also gave us access to their speaker system so that we could play our own music, as we did not have a DJ.

Finally, the food was great and every single person was professional and kind to us and our guests. An excellent experience, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for an affordable, casual wedding reception location.

Food was plentiful. Needs seasoning in the breading on the pork tenderloin that I had. I had a good beer from the menu.

Great place, they've got great beers and extremely helpful staff. Vegan/allergy info: they carry 3 Carrots seitan, which is amazing, but they deep fry it in the same fryer as the fish and cheese items.

I want to give Upland a 5 star review. I really, REALLY do. My husband and I are from Grand Rapids, MI and have been following (or maybe, stalking) sour beer since 2014 when we first started dating. Over the winter, we tried an Upland sour at the 7 Monks Taproom in GR and were blown away. We thought, that's it! We have to go to Upland over Memorial Day when we have time off. So, yes, we planned a vacation to Bloomington to visit Upland. We arrived Friday night around 10pm to the restaurant. We called ahead to make sure they were open and that they were still serving food. They said YES.
We arrived and the restaurant was not busy. It appeared there was a rehearsal dinner in their back room earlier that evening. Chairs were already up on tables. We sat out in the garden area and ordered our first sour. Amazing! The garden area is beautiful. The humidity is just right with a breeze cutting across the field.
Our waiter comes back for our food order and he promptly delivers the black bean burgers. However, he sets our plates down and darts off and we don't have time to order another beer. The burgers are SPICY and my husband and I are both forced to stop enjoying our meal until we have something to drink.
Fast forward 40 minutes and we are still waiting for someone to check on us and see if we're ready for another beer (or maybe just bring us water!). We finally flagged someone down to grab us another water and she seemed irritated that we had done so.
It was clearly apparent that something was going on with the staff that evening. Other customers were complaining about the service and we could see the staff arguing through the doors into the main brewery. Maybe they were short staffed? Maybe something happened in the kitchen?
I'm always one to give people slack when it comes to service because I know stuff happens but this got to the point where I was laughing at how awkward and uncomfortable the atmosphere was.
Unfortunately, we'll be enjoying our Upland beer from home from now on!

Food was really good, beer was even better. A really nice growler price. Limited food choices and seating was a little tight. Still a fan of the beer, especially.

Couldn't believe it wasn't meat.

A friend took me to upland and ordered me a bean burger. It was probably one of the best burgers I've had. I'm not a beer fan, but I will admin they have some decent beers. They carry a decent selection of wines from nearby producers. All and all, a solid dining experience.

Food, especially the bison burgers and chili is delicious! Got to do the flight of beer. Diverse variety of craft beers.

We hired Upland for our bar for our wedding- outstanding service! We worked with Jessi during the planning process and she helped us curate a menu and it was awesome! The staff members that came to our event had superior service and kept up with 140+ attendee wedding. Highly recommend!

I got the bratwurst. No, you don't understand. I got the BRATWURST. I get it you've been to the grocery store and gotten a pack of "bratwurst." But you've never gotten a "bratwurst!" It was as large as a horse and could feed the German army. The reason why the Germans lost the war was because they were so full of "BRATWURST." Do your self a favor and come here and try the "bratwurst." Then leave me an upvote and thank me for writing this review because your life will be changed forever. You're welcome.

This place is a winner! The staff is amazing, the food is on point and the beers are refreshing while still packing a punch.

If you go, get something with the cheese wiz(specifically the fries). I'm from Philly and this was some of the best wiz I've ever had.

The beer was very good and so was the food. Main complaint, NO VALUE!!! I ordered stuffed chicken. $16.95 it was a thigh the size of a golfball (no exaggeration), with a small portion of mash potatoes and green beans and a small salad. VERY disappointing.

Honestly can't match this place. In terms of the balance in great beer and amazing food and atmosphere, its unbeatable in Bloomington. I've had everything from business dinners to Sunday football beers with the boys here, perfect for any occasion. Get the Mac n Cheese too, it's unreal.

Bloomington boasts their diversity with an endless selection of foods from different backgrounds, almost to an overwhelming degree! Fear not Bloomington visitors, Upland is the answer. A unique menu, amazing beer selection, an atmosphere that can feed into a family unit or for a night out with the friends. A1 service, with a constantly rotating menu makes upland a cant fail stop when in Bloomington!

Busy Sat night, place was packed. Our party of 3 had a minimal 10 min wait. Nacho appetizer and dinner rocked. Best of all our server was excellent and of course the beer is 2nd to none. Outside or inside the vibe is good. Highly recommend.

The food here is really quite good, some of the reviews don't reflect this but after living in Bloomington for years I have been many times and have never been disappointed. The beer is decent but a lot of people love it.

Awesome 'little' brewery that has recently expanded the existing location. Try the sirracha hummus and a dragonfly IPA!
