I'm really sad that Upland, once my favorite restaurant in town, has changed its menu and everything I've tried has been....not good. The second star is because the beer is still good, but you can buy that almost anywhere.
I've tried to give everyone the benefit of the doubt because obviously the pandemic was/is a huge set back. But the entire staff seems new. And things seem to be going downhill fast.

Got seated right away then took a while to get service, and during the meal service took awhile. Ordered the 3 pigs, could have used more sauce- kinda dry
Upland is a local favorite, typically casual adult crowd. Busy, busy, busy open to close. While Upland is many things, it is not a binge drinkers scene. This place has great food, professional staff. Although I am not a craft beer connoisseur, I stay mainstream and accept the criticism, my associates are and love their options at Upland. I recommend the nachos (totally shareable) also the fish and chips which are comfortable and reliable. Definitely a great choice for a casual night out for couples or friends.
Good beer, decent food I wasn't super impressed with the food but I like several of their beers. Our service was good and pretty quick for the size of our party. I would return!
This used to be a great place. Our food was horrible, fish and chips looked and tasted like they came from the freezer. Our server came by twice. Once for our order and again for our check. They were not that busy.
Enjoyed a tasty Reuben and a Juicy IPA. Normally not an IPA guy but this was good. Found out they had Doppelbock and was even happier. Enjoyed their patio on a rare nice Feb. day!
Pros the food was great and the selection of beers is extensive. The environment was a lively. Cons, Some of the kitchen staffs attire was inappropriate and a bit vulgar. Some of the staff are extremely rude when attempting to get assistance. Parking for the amount of traffic is inadequate.
Upland Brewing Co has good brews but underwhelming food. The environment is welcoming, but conforms to the typical brewery decor. My waitress was great. She was knowledgeable, checked in at the right interval, and was professional. I chose to indulge in their predetermined beer flight which showcased a variety of beers. Overall, the beer was good enough to buy a six pack later, but I wouldn't describe any as ground breaking. Up to this point I'd rate this place a 4.5, but things really take a turn when it comes to food. I ordered the mac and cheese, and was only able to finish half due to the very heavy garlic and incredible amount of cheese sauce. The dish should have been listed as a soup vs macaroni and cheese, and certainly wasn't worth $15.
All things considered, I'd return and drink some good beer, snack on apps, but would leave dinner to somewhere else.
Arrived 3pm Father's Day. Told 20mins-sat down in 8mins. Place was busy & took few mins.for waiter to arrive. Our food came in 10mins which for as busy as they were was about normal. Our beer/wine arrived on time. Food quality is always as More
Great food, great service, great beer (I've been told), and a special shout out for being baby-friendly. I was pleased to find a diaper changing station in a large bathroom stall so I could take care of my business and change my son's diaper in one trip. They also brought him a high chair without me having to ask and offered a kiddy cup of water right away (which he didnt need because he's two months old and only drinks milk but oh well..still a nice sentiment).
Great brewery with a diverse selection of food. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about their brews. If it's your first time here, I would recommend getting their 10 dollar flights for six 7 oz pours of beer served in an efficiently labeled tray with each of its bottle caps. (See picture)
Took a good friend out who is staying for a management training in town for several weeks. Raved about how Upland was always my favorite in Bloomington. Wait was normal, couldn t sit outside per request. Waitress from first greet, made me feel that she was annoyed through a smile. Fake would be the best term, but what waitress isn t??? Didn t write down or repeat the order, almost walked away before getting my friends order - Didn t get the salad, My medium burger was overcooked and the cheese looked like a rotten piece of bologna as it was tossed on at last minute. Needless to say, not even melted. Service was horrible, and the food didn t make it better enough to stay. Threw down some dollars and bounced!!!
Great place to get local beer! They have plenty of seating and fast service. Their steak fries are my favorite. Try their black bean burgers and Thai chicken pizza.
Consistently good service and delicious food. Upland beers have long been a staple in my beer fridge, and though their bottled products have sometimes been lacking, getting the brews fresh here reaffirms my reason to choose an Upland beer.
We love Upland and their wait staff. Go there at least twice a week. Since changing chefs, the food quality has gone done slightly but is still good pub food.
The beer and sours are great (especially the blackberry sour). I got the hot Nashville chicken sandwich but it wasn't spicy, and tasted nothing like Nashville hot chicken, but it was edible. The fries were amazing though.
Beer was okay, food was good. Flights are eight 5oz pours for a total of 40oz of beer which I was warned of when ordering - "It is 40 ounces of beer, sir". I really enjoyed the porter, but the rest were meh. I would go back for the food. The menu is interesting and there are quite a few vegetarian options.
Great place to hangout with your friends over sum awesome food and good ambience. Tried the Nachos and Tacos with Southwest Tofu. The tofu seasoning was the best. Never had such a wonderful seasoned tofu before. One of the best black bean burgers in Bloomington. Even the vegetable meatloaf was a delight. I will surely recommend this place if you want to catch up with your crew over some tasteful dinner.
So excited to come back to Upland. Our first experience was awesome and we have waited way to long to come back. Excellent atmosphere friendly staff great food and freaking awesome beer.
Upland is being extremely conscientious regarding COVID precautions, which I really appreciate. All waiting customers wait outside the restaurant and all tables are distanced and staff are awesome as usual. We got the Impossible Chorizo Tacos and the Three Little Twigs Sandwich with the brewery fries. The Chorizo was really amazing, but the tortillas weren t cooked or warmed before they were served, so they were very stiff which was unfortunate. The sandwich was delicious, but a bit dry. The fries were amazing as always. I really appreciate the veggie options Upland provides, but the devil is in the details. We will be back as always because of the delicious beer and because Upland is a great place to share a meal with friends (even in a pandemic).
Atmosphere and the service were good. Food was acceptable quality, perhaps a little underwhelming for the price. Burger was decent; the criticism I have is the cooking. If a restaurant asks how you want a burger done, and still just cooks it well done anyway, what is the point of asking? The only other criticism is really not the fault of the restaurant. Because doors have to stay open for COVID reasons there were three super annoying flies around our table a good bit of the meal.
Very cool brewpub with good food and mostly ok beers but sours that shine. In exception of Upland Wheat most of their beers that aren t sours are below average in my opinion. There sours though are some of the best I ve had. They have an entire facility right next door dedicated to sour beers so there s no doubt they are their forte. Overall, the experience from dining to service was very good, just wish they had a little more offer in the traditional beer category. A must stop for any sour beer fan.
Great beers, great service. I really did not like the bear cheese and chips, but others I was with liked there food. I will try something different next time I go.
Great brewery with a wide selection of seasonal beers. Great seating inside, amazing patio seating outside. Parking is limited, and you will more than likely end up in a metered spot on the street. Parking meters do take credit cards though. Great menu to browse, and really good sandwiches. Lot's of sides to choose from. Would stop here again.
Great atmosphere adds to the great food and local beers. They have rotating big dinner salad options, which is something that is often overlooked in other restaurants. Their choice to use locally raised beef and bison ensures that the meat is both delicious and you feel good about your choice to eat it rare. A final note about this place is the staff. We have been going here for about a decade and some of the staff are still there and many others for more than 4 or 5 years. They are friendly and extremely competent. It is quite clear that not only is bar high for the brews and food, but the organization must be great to its staff as well. In a town with a large number of great dining options, this remains a favorite. Enjoy!
I had no issues with service, the place was clean. The food was good. My issue? I ate here on Sunday 10/28/18. We drove back to Terra Haute and by the time we got home, I was feeling pretty ill. Nauseated, gassy and bloated. We both were. We shared chips, salsa, Mediterranean salad and fish and chips. I don't know if the tarter sauce was bad, which you gotta pay if you want extra, the msg, the salt, I have no idea. It seemed like a great place, but the stomach issues would definetly keep me from returning.
This is a favorite place to go! The patio is a quiet, laid back place to dine and share a pitcher of Upland Wheat. The service is always good and the quality menu has something for everyone. Parking is lacking but there are plenty of metered parking spaces very close by. Love Upland!
I don't usually eat mac n' cheese, and I've got to say - this place has INCREDIBLE mac n' cheese. It's even better reheated, if you can believe it. Serious complements to the chef!
I have been here twice and both times were very satisfying. Some of the pricing is a little steep such as the bottles of varying sours, however the flavors and quality of said sours are second to none. The decor is attractive also.
I love going to the Upland Brewing Company, especially when I'm with my daughters. We always have such a nice time there. The food is excellent. I particularly like their wheat beer. And on a nice day, it's such a nice experience to sit outside.
Don't go in the cold months; go when it's warm and you can sit outside. Personally, I've found this place to be a bit claustrophic because the indoors seating is quite crowded and loud. I'm not a fan of having to scoot my chair in every 5 minutes to let someone by.
Personally, I think Upland is a little bit overrated. I don't think the food is overly extraordinary, and I really wouldn't consider a visit unless it was warm enough to sit outside.
The service was great! The server was very friendly, and the food came out quickly, and tasting very good. The brewery fries are a delicious seasoned fries. I had the Hoosier pork tenderloin sandwich, and it was a good size, and cooked well. My wife and I ate for less than $30.
Great beer and food. Service is hit or miss. Many of the staff put off a vibe that you being there is a bother to them and that you should feel privileged to be waited on by them. I love the beer and food so much and that I take my chances on getting a friendly wait staff.
I like Upland beer and wanted to get off of Kirkwood so chose to eat here on a Sunday evening. Got sat in a reasonable time on the outdoor patio. Quit nice. Service was good as well as the beer, but the food...not. We wanted the bison More
Really nice brewery. This place is super nice and super clean and all the beers I have tried are really good. The food that I have ordered so far is all really good as well. I'm a sucker for bar food though. The apatizers are delish!
One of our favorite spots when we're in B-town. Great beer, especially the seasonal brews. Amazing staff - once two of our burgers were overcooked, then undercooked, and finally right on the third try, the waitress not only was all genuine smiles and apologies, but also cut our burgers price in half and got our beer flight.
I love their outdoor seating and great atmosphere. In all the times I've been here, still haven't checked out the brewery tour, but looking forward to it.
Beers are great! Atmosphere is nice for a college town bar. But the bar keep Brian was rude and put-offish. Really managed to put a damper on an otherwise good experience.go for the beer but don't sit art the bar.
All in all as expected. I had the duck and it was perfectly cooked. The pork rinds were wonderful. Pulled pork was a bit bland/dry. We arrived before they got busy on a week day and were seated immediately. The wait for our food was about twenty minutes...likely because of my duck.
went for lunch, Waited way too long, finally, took food to go. Hamburger was raw, not just a little pink , but raw. There were several other issues but the raw hamburger was just unacceptable.
My wife had the roast beet salad. I had the gnocchi special. Both were excellent! We couldn't not try the Teddy bear Stout, very good too! Best dinner in awhile.
Food was a big disappointment. Service was okay but nothing great. Ordered the hamburger medium and it came out well done and very dry. The $9 pizza from the kids menu had sauce that was too spicey for my son to eat. Food took a long time coming out of the kitchen. Prices were too high for the poor quality of food.
