The gardens at this time of the year are incredible. Trains for the young and mature too! The collection of national monuments and stately houses is a site to see. They are made from all natural items.

The indoor collection of exotic plants is always a pleasure, especially the orchids (as is the clean rest room), but I enjoy most the well planned outdoor gardens which demonstrate some of the best plants for local gardens. These include small trees and flowering bushes and a broad range of perennials including ground covers, spring bulbs, roses. iris, Japanese anemones, hosta, and many others less well known. This wonderful garden is hardly an undiscovered secret. Many government workers bring their lunches and sit at the tables and benches provided, but there are many turns to the outdoor paths allowing for space for everyone.

Awesome place, best part is how quiet it was when I was there. Saw loads of interesting plants I've never seen before, cocoa trees and vanilla orchids and the like. Spend 15 minutes or 2 hours. The best part of free stuff like this is that you can't not get value for money. I would 100% recommend doing a tour, it's great to wonder around and they point out to you the most interesting stuff, and a little extra information. Everything is really well done.

Ask if the prickly pears are edible.

My wife called it a 'plant zoo' to a staff member. My wife is a native English speaker, with a college degree, in biology. The staff member didn't even blink. That's service. Also, plants are great. The orchids are amazing, and the exterior gardens are a great spot to roam.

One of the better places to visit on the mall, year round the botanical garden houses a wide variety of colorful plants that you can get up close and personal with. It's not a huge building and can get quite crowded and stuffy (it is a greenhouse after all) but still nice for a stroll. If it's nice out and early spring be sure to check out the rose garden to the west of the building.

Lovingly landscaped and well-tended garden with various themed areas such as the desert or the Mediterranean area. All plants are described in detail and wonderfully arranged. Everything is very instructive and the individual areas are filled with the scent of various plants. And the whole thing doesn't cost a cent. Very relaxing and enriching.

Beautiful and calm. We came to DC when it was pretty cold out and so we were very excited to walk around a the gardens with the warm and humid temperatures. We found the gardens to be really beautiful and calm. There is running water everywhere and lots of places to sit so it is very relaxing. It is pretty small so it does not take long to walk around everywhere but if you are looking for a place to come and just sit this is great!

This was our first visit to the garden. Of course it has awesome plants. Some very rare ones too. I found it confusing to follow their map. I couldn't find the butterfly exhibit. They are working on taking out some of the taller trees, as well. The outdoor garden was great!

Wonderful. Every Season is different... the plants, flowers, and trees. Just beautiful. A must see for DC!! Everyone there is so knowledgeable and if they don't know they're eager to help you find the resources to find out. Relaxing and educational. Nice.

They got indoor and outdoor Garden plant from around the World. From Africa, Hawaii and from the Tropical countries. Herbs, Medicinal plants and Orchids is my top of my list. Cactus and succulents are pretty too. they have rare and endangered species of plants too that if we just slip it away we might not see them anymore anywhere. So guys take care of out Flora and Fauna.

I don't know what I'm missing - the ability to appreciate individual plants maybe? I was pretty excited to take my sister-in-law here while she was visiting, but we all found it just OK.

We specifically drove here just to check it out, and while it has a lot of areas and plants and is nice, it's essentially just like walking through a garden. It doesn't have the grandeur and beauty of some of the other buildings, and unfortunately we went in March so outside didn't really have much going on.

Worth going to if you LOVE plants and are fascinated by all the different climates, but if not then it's only worth a visit while you're walking around other places on the mall. Taken together it's a nice compliment to other museums.

A very impressive display of plant life. We started outside, but the really impressive displays are inside the conservatory. Along with many beautiful plants from different environments, there are some educational displays regarding soil, plant disease, watering etc.

I didn't think this would be a good place to visit but I was wrong. It was interesting to go through the garden and look at all of the different plans. I would recommend checking this out if you're visiting and have time.
