Like it's quirky charm. You can pray for the gig to be good and if not go upstairs and confess over a drink. Easy to get to/from. Food is available from community project, costs puts back into it. So even if gig is rubbish you still did good for others.

Brilliant place to visit for concerts, really atmospheric as it a working chapel. No seat allocation, so sit where you want, downstairs, or up among the vast gallery. They have a bar, and do serve food but have never eaten there. I would recommend that if you have difficulty climbing stairs, get there earlier to get a seat downstairs. These tend to fill up first , but personally I prefer upstairs in the gallery. Always had a really good view from there. Underground station is literally just across the road, and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat beforehand. Would highly recommend this place, apart from seeing a concert, you are amongst a bit of atmospheric history too.

Great venue for a nice meal and a show. The audience are mature and well heeled. The facilities are very good. It is a beautiful and unusual place as you are in a church. This makes it very special.

Good venue for comedy. Shame many seats have no view and unable to bring drinks into the Chapel. Not enough time to wait in the queue and return to seats so a good place to visit if you don't want to drink

A lovely venue with great acoustics (to my untrained ear). The chapel is beautifully preserved. I like the fact that the bar is separate and alcoholic drinks are not allowed in the main space - meaning three focus is on the music and not on the drinking as in some venues.
Only negatives are it can be a bit drafty, you do sit on pews (with seating unreserved) and the toilets I used were small and outside). But these points really don't detract that much from the experience.

Beautiful church hall and great venue with large domed roof. Great acoustics and good view the stage. You sit on pews and there is no assigned seating, so if you'd like to be near tge stage you need to arrive early. One of the best places in London to see a band or comedian.

This beautiful old church is a perfect music venue for the more folk inspired bands travelling the UK and the globe.

Sitting in the pews, listening to your favourite bands be it acoustic or otherwise is a treat which really makes you feel as though you're living in another time, making you forget the outside world and immerse yourself in the music.

If you ever get the opportunity to see a band here, do yourself a favour and go. You won't regret it and certainly won't forget the wonderful experience in a hurry.

Beautiful venue, wated Mum play.. Great acoustics. There is a bar but you can't take alcohol or hot food outside the bar. There is a delightful cafe and you can take cold drinks and proper mugs of tea, coffee and delicious hot chocolate (with cream and marshmallow) up to your seats. They also have tunnocks, so a worthy trade imho.
A lady comes round with a tray of icecream too. Fab place.

Incredible acoustics. Saw Brian Fallon, sound quality was great. Alcohol free venue but there's a bar next door. They do make hot drinks though. One of the best venues I've ever been to. It helped that Brian Fallon is an incredibly talented musician as well of course.

This is one of London's best music venues. It is also a wonderful old building. There is a decent bar and you can get food cooked by the Margins project for the homeless. I have to admit that as I get older the pews do seem to get harder.

Unforgettable evening Magical atmosphere, excellent acoustics. I attended a choral music show by the
Chaps Choir .... goosebumps!
When booking tickets online, you can choose to have dinner one hour before the show in the rectory.
Excellent craft beer since 1877 brewed by the Union Chapel pale ale.

Beautiful venue. Saw Frank Turner here in December 2015 and it was a great experience. There's a small chapel shop selling tea and biscuits in the main area, and there's a separate bar for alcohol out the back. Stunning atmosphere and surroundings.

went here for a charity comedy gala. Amazing venue great night out

was lovely and toasty inside as long as you chose a seat near the heating units ... (look up for them round the main area) seats are traditional wooden benches but not too uncomfortable especially if your sat on your coat

One star given in this review as the option of selecting zero stars is not possible. Very poor performance last night (3rd Nov'18) - especially Rob Delaney, who was supposed to be the 'Headline Act', who turned up just to chat based on bullet points written on a post-it note !

The compere Kiri Pritchard-McLane was good, as was the first act Jen Brister......but from then on the event went rapidly downhill. Angelos Epithemiou was OK as an 'Alternative Act', but then the screeching and very un-funny Rose Matafeo set the scene for a very poor end. The House Band were just about OK, if you like Jazz, but gave no charisma as the lead guitarist spent most of the night with his back to the audience.

The venue itself was impressive, but the seating was far too uncomfortable to sit through the show, especially with 2 uneccssary breaks disrupting the flow.

We won't be going back - as the Comedy Store in Leicester Square offers a much better experience all round.

Amazing space, which welcomes both really well know and lesser known (in the UK) artists. Some past examples would be Ludovico Einaudi, Elisa, and The Gloaming. The interior and the lighting are always atmospheric, and overall they make for a completely different experience than a normal gig. The chapel is well connected and close to a tube station, so it is not difficult to reach. I have found that the crowd here is always very well educated, maybe because it is made up of likely minded people. The only downside is, the benches/seating are somewhat uncomfortable, but well, nothing the average adult can't deal with.

Tried the upstairs balcony for a change, good sound and clear views of the stage.

Atmospheric lighting adds to the experience.

As it's an active church the pews can get a bit uncomfortable so come prepared. Can also be a bit cold. There's a limited number of cushions and blankets available but they are for members only.

Seats are unreserved so you have to queue up in advance of the doors opening if you want a wider choice of where to sit.

Access to the first floor balcony is via stairs only.

Few minutes walk from Highbury and Islington Victoria line station.

Plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs nearby but check to see if Arsenal are playing at home. May add time to getting to public transport at the end.

Had a magical night here for the Dan Mangan show. The architecture is stunning. I wish I d known about the restaurant/bar as the food looked good. Also- they make their own beer! 10/10 would recommend. Hot chocolate was a hug for my insides.

I have no idea about Union Chapel as a Church but as a venue for gigs I love it.
Yes if you are not in the front row on the balcony you can suffer from a restricted view of parts of the stage closest to you but other than that it's pretty great for quieter shows with its friendly staff and hot chocolate in china mugs.
