When I can't make it to the library this is the only place I'll go to get a book. Great selection and the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. Stopped in today for a travel book and was delighted to find they have a massive travel section downstairs. Make sure to pick up one of their canvas bags to get 10% off every time you bring it!

Truly a gem. Definitely one of my favorite bookstores in Chicago. They have an overall great selection and terrific neighborhood feel. Do not miss their sale section! I no longer live nearby and still make the trek across town for a visit.

I love the feel of this locally owned book store. The owner, Ed, and his staff handwrite suggestions for books which are scattered throughout the shelves. Their sale section is by far the best I've encountered and their LGBT section is also extremely impressive. I find myself wandering this shop for hours. For the space, they have an amazing selection without the overwhelming feeling I get at some other bookstores. Absolutely worth a gander if you're anywhere near the neighborhood. This place makes me want to spend all of my money.

I was just stopping in to kill some time. I liked the layout and selection of the store. They had a sizeable section dedicated to LGBTQ books, which I liked, even though I'm not interested in those much. I also liked the anti-trump/anti-fascism signs sprinkled through the store. I don't live in the neighborhood, but if I happen to be around there again, I would definitely revisit this store.

Unabridged Books is a world-class bookstore that offers a huge selection of current and classic books in various subjects. It's the kind of place people used to associate with New York City, and it's here in Chicago. The front of the store is full of recent titles so that you can browse the offerings easily. The staff is very helpful in working with you to find what you need or to make suggestions. It's one of those rare places where you sometimes purchase much more than you expected and at the same time want to come back for more, because the offerings and atmosphere are so inviting. Unabridged has a full selection of Penguin books, Modern Library edition, and other standard sets. The literature section is unbeatable and stands out from many chain stores in the depth of coverage. Cookbooks are amazing, and it's hard to imagine a better selection of titles in a specialty shop, let alone a comprehensive bookstore like this one. Science fiction and fantasy is equally rich, as is the section on mysteries. Graphic novels and manga are also offered. DOn't miss the section on biography and the number of signed titles that are offered at no additional cost. The bookstore has a rich selection of gay and lesbian titles, and the discounted offerings are worth a browse. It's a fantastic store that must be seen. If you do not know it, visit it soon!

Great indie bookstore in an even better neighborhood! Lots of great, unique and left books and authors while still feeling approachable. Go check it out for yourself and don't forget to pick up a book or two.

Polite, knowledgeable, non judgemental staff. I have been shopping here for the past 17 years and have always felt welcome. I have had either two or three X-large akita dogs with me and some staff memebers new them by name!!!

I picked up the man with the Golden Arm here the other day for $5! You can't beat that, that's less than my usual library fines.

Selection is very good for such a small store, and the staff is really friendly, they also have signed copies from local authors on occasion (Nick offerman recently).

My favorite bookstore in all of Chicago! The indie/small press selections, LGBTQ section, bargain books, and staff recommendations cards are enough to keep me coming in regularly - but where Unabridged really shines is their stellar staff! I ordered a book that wasn t in stock and shipment was delayed due to a snowstorm. The store called me and apologized (it was beyond their control, not even their fault) and offered a discount for my inconvenience. It s customer service like that that ll keep me as a customer for life. A true gem that deserves your business.

Great independent bookstore. Unlike Amazon and the big box stores, it lets educated people make their own decisions about what they should read. It doesn't censor like Amazon, Walmart, etc. If they dont have it, they happily order it for you.

They encourage browsing. The staff reviews books and their reviews are posted conspicuously. Great travel section in basement, fantastic cooking section, LGBT section--which reflects the neighborhood.

They are actively involved with Nettelhorst public school across the street. They are active members of the communtiy. Your money spent there impacts the local community, rather than a bunch of nameless, faceless investors in New Jersey, or California.

Buy local. Support your friendly, neighborhood bookstore!

Previous time there male bookseller was very unfriendly, no hello, thank you, anything.
Worst bookstore experiences ever
Btw to the first one: research customer service. Is this the right line of work for you?

Unabridged Bookstore is one of the better bookstores that I have been to (and I frequent many bookstores - new and used). They have a great selection; great sales; and many different genres. They have almost an entire floor (basement) for travel, and a great LGBT section.

I came here the day after the storm and I have to say I was very happy on what books I bad found. I got my boyfriend to read which is great. They got by original prices so I spent 51 dollars that day. I am glad I got the books i wanted! I would come back when I am in the area.

This is the best bookstore in Chicago. Small, clean, organized, and they have basically any book you'd want. They even have little cards that review popular works. It like getting a personal recommendation.

This Lakeview bookstore is a gem! I am a teacher and I am a big fan of their children's section! I have also found some wonderful "coffee table" books. I personally think their art books and travel books are one of a kind! It is near impossible to walk in without buying just one book!

With the rise of eReaders it's always nice to see actual brick and mortar bookstores still in existence. Unabridged Bookstore has an amazing selection of just about any book you could think of. It is beautifully organized, the staff are super friendly and helpful, and it has a very welcoming quality to it. Highly recommend for any book lover to visit!

This bookstore is awesome! The shop itself, is massive. The staff is super helpful. The children's book section has amazing choice, not just your Dr. Suess basics. They carry an array of inclusive (read LGBTQ, POC, Female, etc.) Non fiction and fiction literature and reading suggestions too. They even have a couple of book clubs. I'll definitely be back.

Best bargain section in the city. There is a huge selection of books throughout the store, which makes quarters a little cramped, but everyone is aware and polite. They always have great music playing. The staff is very hands-off, but more than willing to help if you do have a question. Staff recs and themed tables lead to some real gems.

This is not a bookstore but a propaganda trap. On the front entrance you will find a collection of "RESIST" books, including "Rules for Radicals" as well as books written by terrorist, Bill Aryes.
What was even worse, was the propaganda children's books such as "A is for activist", which features a fist on the cover. Also shown in the storefront was Annie the Feminist, geared toward elementary aged children. I have been to hundreds of bookstores, and never have I seen such anti-American, pro communist propagnda covering the entire front of the store. It is frightening as well as deeply disturbing seeing this type of literature in my own neighborhood.

I wish I could live here, the selection is THAT good, from the latest hardcovers to NYRB classics and the all-important memoir section. Usually I'm too shy to chat much with bookstore clerks but I love talking to the helpful and smart folks who work at Unabridged.

I go here for nearly all my book purchases. It's a perfect little neighborhood proper book shop -- no eReader bs. Everyone who works there are avid readers and can often help you with book suggestions, authors, and information. If it's not in stock, they will order it for you and their sale section is great for super affordable classics and under the radar finds.

Such a vast collection for any and everything!! I wish I could have stayed longer and didn't every dime I had. They also have a lot of black literature here as well which I greatly appreciated. The staff was so nice and welcoming, such a quaint sanctuary.

A literary wonderland. Excellent curation of new titles and essential classics. Written recommendations provide helpful insight on every shelf, and the staff is happy to help. My only problem is wanting to buy everything every time I'm there. Don't forget your tote bag for 10% off all purchases!

Friendly staff and an incredible selection of literature. Downside, some of the books-- all of which are purportedly new, and sold at cover price-- are beat up to the point I thought this was a used book store on my first visit.

Awesome bookstore, actually my favorite bookstore in the city. It's so cozy inside, and feels like you are among great friends. Fantastic selection of travel books, plus almost anything else you are looking for. You can easily pass an afternoon or evening browsing their extensive selection of books, and making yourself at home. It is no nice to shop local and I suggest checking out Unabridged Bookstore before buying online.

Even though I prefer to frequent bookstores with reader-friendly seating, this independent seller has consistently delivered with a selection that combines mainstream, indie, and left-field finds. I've either always found what I came there for or found something I didn't know I wanted.

Certain art books 40% off? Yes, but check for red or black indelible slash on the bottom of each volume. It's vandalism and they ought to be forthcoming about such things. I could have gotten my crisp new copy for only a few dollars more elsewhere.
