One of the few remaining true independent bookstores. It has not only weathered the era of Border's and Barnes & Noble, but it has even withstood against the mighty Amazon...and thrived! If they don't have what you need in their massive stock, there's nothing they can't get you if you're willing to wait a few days for it to be ordered.

A complete gem. Honestly, I get chills when I go in there. Bookstores like this are a dying breed. This is one of the best. So fortunate to have it in the neighborhood!

I just have to say I do love this bookstore but I know exactly other reviewers are saying when they say the staff is unfriendly. That is true.

One of the best little bookstores in Chicago! They have all kinds of book genres and their selection of children's books is wonderful! This bookstore is located in East Lakeview...a great Chicago neighborhood with wonderful cafes, restaurants, bakeries and shopping!

Small nook in the wall bookstore in the Lakeview? neighborhood. I could tell this store has been in business for awhile, and is a part of the community. I imagine there are book-loving regulars that frequent the place often. The small size felt a little cramped, and there was not really any place to sit and read. Magazine selection was OK, not great. Book selection was vast and seemed to be curated nicely. The shelves felt a little cluttered, but they were organized. I would shop here again, but I wish it were a little more welcoming, shelves were touched up, and had a space to relax.

Unabridged Bookstore is a fabulous treasure trove of books nestled on Broadway in East Lakeview. When I lived around the corner, I must have stopped in 2 to 4 times per week... did I mention I have a very darling dog, and Unabridged passes out dog treats? Well they do, and my dog has a perfect memory... Alas, we are not living full time in Chicago anymore, we live where there are zero independent book stores, wahh! But when we come home to visit Chicago, we ALWAYS stop at Unabridged. There are staff recommendation cards on lots of the books, which is great, I have discovered many a treasure through these recommendations. If they don't have a book you eant they can order it for you. Don't miss the travel section in the lower level, great resources, I have bought and used many books for my travels purchased from Unabridged. Great selection of kids books too. Love this place!!

Nice little shop the staff was kind and helpful I got lost for a second which made it fun, btw there's a downstairs part to the shop

Lots of books, and very good sale prices. I love when there are little notecards written by employees telling you what they thought of a book.

Love this place! I The selection isn t huge, but that s what those big chain bookstores are for. Every book looks interesting and it s clear the business has values. They also have these little handwritten notes from staff on books that they recommend, I think that s very cute.

I love this place!!! I can spend hours in here. There is a great selection. It makes me sad that bookstores that are becoming a place of the past. I really hope they can hang on there.

I really missed the feeling of just browsing a bookstore with no real purpose. This place brought back memories for me. The staff, totally friendly. The selection, amazing. Go here for the latest and greatest, the classics, and everything in between. Huge LGBTQ lit section.
