What a waste of money there is no benefit to this Union. I am a member of another Union out of Oregon but I am not sure the purpose of this one they might get you an extra .50 in pay just to give it to them to do nothing God bless Murica. This was a part time Job next time I will go with a NON UNION part time job even if it's lower pay it really isn't if they don't have their fingers in your paycheck. This is why Unions are going away they aren't for the people.

Seems really to do with your rep. Have had 3 different ones now. The first was good, the second not so, the latest one seems pretty good. Getting a hold of them is kind of hit and miss. You can't get a hold of anyone ever on Friday afternoons--staff meeting. They also have a weird phone system which if you call them and get disconnected and you call them right back no one answers. Union stewards individual contact info cannot be seen on their web page if you use a phone. Also a bit put off by the fact that they only work M-F while most members typically work weekends.

Awesome Union! I had a lazy food manager that wouldn't fix anything. He targeted me for termination after I complained to the hot line. His tone changed entirely once My rep got involved. Keep up the great work!

Cannot get a hold of anyone in the office. Contacted my union rep Leroy about 3 months ago and he still hasn't gotten back to me. I eventually quit Safeway, but still need to speak with him. Still cannot get a hold of anybody, so I might have to drive down to their office in person.

It s great that they are able to offer low insurance rates. What s not great is not being able to fill your prescriptions. When I became eligible for medical insurance, they auto enrolled me before my enrollment period was up without me making the decision to accept insurance or not. I had insurance through other avenues so I was not planning on enrolling. When they auto enrolled me (even though I did not accept insurance) it put a flag on my current insurance that I had alternative insurance. So when I went to fill my prescription today, I couldn t because of this flag. Of course they are closed now to verify that I do not in fact have the union insurance and I have to call again in the morning so they can verify and make sure they contact the pharmacy before I can fill my prescription tomorrow. They do this in hopes that employees won t catch it and they will get more enrollees. That is fraud. I should have to provide my signature to be enrolled in medical benefits.

The service is harsh and uncaring. The union representative was not at my new hire orientation and did not contact me until 6 months later, demanding that if my fees aren't paid I am to be let go. I attempted to contacted the union office, my union rep and HR through phone and email for over 3 weeks. None of which were returned. When I finally contacted someone, (call right when they opened) they did not care about their mismanagement. They did not even offer any consolation, not even a simple "I'm sorry about your inconvenience". I understand that customer service is a harsh industry and you get many unhappy clients, which can make it difficult to sympathize. But if I say 'please' and 'thank you' when I speak to you, you should to. In addition the unions system is archaic in that it does not take debit or cc payments. It is inconvenient in the modern era to not accept these forms of payment.

In my experience the union system is riddled with such poor management that my confidence in future support from my union is also very poor.

However, besides the lack service, I do appreciate the work that the union does. I am grateful for their websites which does a good job at answering an array of questions. I hope to see improvement as my experience with this group continues. I wholeheartedly love my job, and wish to see a union that is more organized and efficient then it's current standard. Please take the necessary steps to improve!!! I love being in a union and am so thankful to have any ally in the work place. Thank you to the union for all of the hard work on my behalf. I hope you don't take my criticism as a poor reflection on the ideologies behind the union, just the on the current infrastructure.

This is the anniversary of UFCW and Fred Meyer doing a shake down on me. I had proof UFCW was stealing my dues....after several questionable 'past due' and repayments I bought a money order from the po...sure enough...got another past due notice. I was then hauled into HR office of Fred Meyer...forced to give credit card, payroll deduction authorization or be removed from the building. Union rep was non existent. They refused to allow me to submit my paperwork, as I did pay to have the negotiated copy of the MO sent to me. Fred Meyer ended up shipping off guilty parties to other stores...UFCW are thugs and thieves. Shortly after this...they forced payment of dues for all members via direct payroll deduction. No one can track the money that goes into their PAC for the illegals and democrats. No one I know has anything positive to say about their interest in protecting workers. They buy politicians...thats what they do. They live a posh life while whipping their members Disgusting slavery.

A union belongs to it's MEMBERS. I have been a UFCW member since 1994. I'm glad to be UNION. The union has helped me secure a living wage and bennifits package. Many people enjoy what labor unions have achieved. They enjoy the benefits without recognizing the struggles others have endured. I do whatever I can to help UFCW 21. An injury to one member is an injury to all members! I stand against corporate and political greed.I stand for quality work and fair compensation. I believe collective bargaining is what's needed to protect the middle class family.
Because I feel this way I give my Union 5 stars . .

UFCW 21 is one of the largest labor unions in the region. They offer mediation for fair treatment between employers and employees. The first thing employees always ask for is protection against the states at-will termination policy. UFCW contracts always establish that employers must have a reasonable justification for firing somebody. Wages are often set to scale to avoid various forms of favoritism and discrimination. Union jobs are built to last, because these are jobs to build a life around. Our communities need us to offer these vital services non stop, and unionizing helps to ensure fair representation in the work place so that we have the means necessary to do so.
I am extremely thankful for my union, because even if my boss changes, my rights don't. Knowing my job is safe and I'll be able to pay my bills is profoundly important to me.

The union has a lot of people and around 15 reps to answer hundreds of questions and calls. They do not inform us of town hall meetings to see what they are doing, the people we vote for have no outreach and when we do leave messages to the reps it is weeks before a call back because message gets lost in all the others and we get forgotten about. The website has been helpful in teaching me my union rights and I did finally get a call back from our local rep and she blamed me for not giving enough information to call back didnt realize my name, phone number, store # I worked at and reason behind calling was not enough information, next time Ill give my address so you can respond through a singing telegram. This union is not interested in its members but its members also complain about that and do nothing to be a part of their union. I know it sucks but inform yourselves because they don't have the time or resources and quite frankly they don't have the desire to either. The negotiation team has no backbone, the most recent negotiation updates are a farce. They continue to win us barely more than minimum wage while making it so we can not get merit based raises. As a courtesy clerk I made 30 cents less than I do now, now I order for the a department, work and stock that department, assist in stocking multiple other departments, cashier and whatever else they decide to do and I get paid 12.40 an hour and have been there for 2 years and 5 months. The union is weak and the people negotiating for the employers are much better at their jobs.

UFCW21 did nothing when Fred Meyer violated my FMLA rights. They did nothing when Fred Meyer broke rules of the contract. The rep I spoke with always forgot to help me. He forgot to look into things for me. He forgot to update me. He always made excuses. They forget you pay their paycheck. They were lazy and incompetent everytime I tried to speak with them. They hardly ever answer the phone - always wanting you to leave them a voicemail message first. Why pay for someone to take your money and provide no service? Stay far away from any company that requires you to give money to UFCW21 for free. Beware.

1.Extremely poor communication,
2. Will not get back to you even after you file a grievance
3. Make you contact them to even join the union
4. Only seems to care about political matters, not the people who pay their dues.

They threatened a teenager to be let go because she didn't fill out her Union membership. No rep was there to even explain that there was a Union. What benefit is there from you today? Seems like employee money should be used in better ways, such as going to them instead.

Wicked awesome place. Really sweet and friendly people there and they are helpful. Meetings sometimes have food so they always take good care of you. It's a pretty easy place to get to. I love it. It's my first time here and it's so fun to be here.

Very competent and knowledgeable about contracts and what is needed for Local Unions to be strong. Remember a Union is only as strong as it s members. Become involved with your Union, work with your steward or better yet become a steward yourself. The employees at Local 21 are protecting your rights on a daily basis. Protecting what is ours at a political level as well as in the workplace. Help secure the rights Unions have provided all of us and do your part. Talk to new members in your store, attend the quarterly meetings, join the steward training, join fellow members at UFCW hosted picnics and activities. Doing these things will strengthen our membership and unite us against those trying to take away the benefits and wages we deserve.
