I can t say much about their dental work, but the doctors here also work at the hospital and perform much more serious operations. I found dr Bast to be a very calm warm pragmatic dr who performed my facial reconstruction in much less time than anticipated. I believe the doctors here to be very knowledgeable and capable, that is far more important than scheduling concerns the other reviews seem to focus on. I did have some problems with scheduling and staff being unresponsive at this location but they were always able to accommodate me and were nice and respectful and I believe they deal with a very large number of patients and info, very different from your typical dentist office, it s hardly fair to compare the two. The staff also more than once went above and beyond what is necessary, and maybe it s better if they stick to what they know best as their help also resulted in some additional delays, but these things are difficult to assign blame so there is no telling it would have been a better result elsewhere. I will warn though that because dr Bast is the head surgeon he was less responsive or even unresponsive after a few weeks had passed, mostly because his schedule is extremely full and he is often double booked and dealing with emergency situations on top of it, so if you find yourself waiting for a reply just call the front office and ask to speak with another doctor and you will get a call back, eventually. You always have to fight for everything in this industry because there are so many people and issues at play that the squeaky wheel really is the one getting greased. So before harshly judging these people consider adjusting your expectations a bit. If I had to see a dentist I would go elsewhere. Their facility is not very new or nice, it s as bare bones as they come, and other dentists have offered me more and better numbing agents and are much more concerned with their reputation so offer amenities and smiles in that vain. This facility gives me the sense they handle folks without health insurance and are not as interested in customer service as much as they are in just servicing the customer as they deem necessary, in and out, if it s fixed their job is done, next! I am still recovering but they put my face back together, after I was violently and randomly assaulted, so I will be able to eat normally again, and look about the same as I looked before the incident by using non externally invasive procedures, performing all surgery from inside my mouth so I would not scar on my face. I hope it was the right decision, it may be a year before I am fully healed and will know. The braces they use to wire your mouth shut are almost medieval though so avoid them if at all possible. I ll check back once I m fully recovered. I m about 1.5 months through recovery now.

I got my wisdom teeth out here last month and was surprised to see such bad reviews for UCSF! Yes, there are long hold times on the phone, but in general all the staff and doctors are helpful, kind, and patient. My surgery went as smoothly as one could hope for. One recommendation if you're thinking about getting a procedure done here is to ask for someone's email, I was able to handle scheduling that way and avoid the jammed up phone lines.

I had an accident last week and my jaw came away. fortunately, my operation was performed by Dr. Efe Ba aran. If you need a doctor who about maxillofacial surgery, you must find him. I can t thank him and this hospital enough.

Great doctors, terrible administration. Scheduling is nearly impossible, requires long hold times. Billing is a nightmare -- slow to bill to insurance or provide insurer-requested documentation, leading to huge "late" bills in the mail. Making appointments, billing, follow-up cannot be done online, only over the phone. Low staffing means it take a full week to get an appointment, even for an urgent issue. If you're not convinced this office is run terribly, look at their reviews on Yelp.

I had severe pain and swelling from abscessed wisdom tooth for a week prior to being seen by one of the doctors here. After multiple antibiotics not working and swelling not going down I was told by a local oral surgeon in my town to drive 2 hours away and go to UCSF hospital because they have Oral surgeons on call who can give me fast treatment. I was seen by Dr. Eshaghzadeh. And let me tell you how happy and thankful I am for him. I have never been treated by such a patient Doctor who took his time and answered all of mine and my husbands 1000 questions we had. On my way over there I though of the worst possible scenarios and was scared for my life. My prior doctor told me I was going to have to get my face cut open to remove the abscess which was really scary for me. Once we talked to Dr.Eshaghzadeh he reassured me I was going to be ok and that he can perform the treatment under local anesthesia without having me put under or cutting my face. He was able to drain the infection through the inside of my mouth and I didn't even feel his injections. He has such a soft touch. He took his time draining the infection and even came back a second time to do it again. Usually other doctors drain for 5 min and that's it. Not him he went above and beyond to make sure that infection came out. I am now in the healing process. I am no longer crying from the pain the abscess gave me. Still a bit swollen but thats from the work that was performed. Dr.Eshaghzadeh has even been calling to check on me. I am now waiting to get the tooth extracted and know that I am in good hands. Thank you so much Dr. Eshaghzadeh!

I was told if I came to UCSF they would fix my jaws. Well...that hasn't happened. Dr Patell took an Xray and CRT of my jaw. He tho ks I need to see a Psychritrist to make sure I am mental enough to handle getting well. Imagine that? Then, Dr Patell is not a Maxillfacial surgeon so I must see another doctor who does not take my insurance so I must pay $480.00 for one hour before Dr Patell will even attempt to Fix my jaw. Don't come to UCSF. This is unreal just to get your jaw fixed. They should just FIX THE JAW!! I do NOT recommend UCSF...go somewhere to save the time you spend like 2 months waiting maybe you get well and maybe NOT in my case!! Wasted has, time, energy and added.extra miles to my vehicle for NO reason!!!

It's impossible to get into contact with this office through phone or email. I had to go through Facebook to finally talk to a person, which is ridiculous. I had a consultation appointment where x-rays were taken, they said they would notify me for a follow-up the next month (which they never did) and I had to go through unconventional means to even get a chance to speak to someone. I spent hundreds on these x-rays, if I hadn't persisted for months, then they would have never called me. UCSF is also supposed to be in communication with my orthodontist office which they have not done at all. I would give 0 stars if possible. Don't use this office if you can help it.

Four stars because of my 3.5 hour wait. I checked in, paid my fee, but one person at the front desk somehow failed to actually check me in. However, once seated in the dental chair the staff and students were professional, helpful and asked Dr. some great questions. Dr. Odera, was pleasant, kind, knowledgeable and extracted that nasty tooth surprisingly quick. Thank you Dr Odera, and colleagues!

HORRIBLE customer service. I have been trying to reschedule my upcoming appointment for about a week now. No answers, no matter how long I stay on hold on the phone. I ended up with a no call, no show for my appointment all because no one wanted to answer my phone call. It shouldn't matter how busy they are, I don't understand how they can put patients on hold for hours. I'm busy with work and school and don't have the time to wait for hours or go into their offices. It's horrible.
