I've always thought National Monuments are vastly underrated compared to National Parks. However, most national monuments like this are just as special and offer a small slice of natural/historic perfection. No wonder the Chiricahua Apaches settled this area. It's like miniature Yosemite Valley and Bryce Canyon rolled into one smack in the middle of the Sonoran desert!

Spent the month exploring Central to South Eastern Arizona and this was the highlight of the trip for me! Absolutely amazing rock formations and great hiking. There is a shuttle from the visitors center to the top of the monument where you can then hike down, a 6-10 mile hike depending on the route you take. Campground was basic but really nice with flush toilets and water spread throughout the camp.

The visitor center has WiFi--the only service available within 50 miles or so (no gas stations either within 30 miles at least, so prepare). The restrooms were clean and stocked up. The shop and exhibits were interesting and fun. The thrilling curving drive through the park, in and back, treated us with spectacular views. The campgrounds appeared rustic, but scenic. This out-of-the-way outing was well worth the hours-long drive to and from.

I was traveling west from Texas and needed some place to camp. They were open sights here at Bonita Canyon and I was only planning one night but I had to add two more. This place is incredible talking about a wonderland of rocks and incredible formations. The hiking is spectacular. The facilities are well maintained and the staff here are just great. No complaints from this boy. You may want to make reservations ahead of time though if you plan to stay.

This is a nice place to visit. Plan at least a whole day to walk the trails and see the sites. The green Algae on the rocks make this place different than any rock formations we have seen. I am from Utah and we have a lot of rock formation parks. Very nice National Monument

This national monument is off the beaten track, but it is well worth the effort to get there. Originally the homelands of the Chiricahua Apache, they called it "the place where the rocks stand up," and if you go, you'll see amazing vertical rock formations standing like sentinals.

Excellent views and well placed trails. Not very difficult at all unless you're not used to the elevation. If coming from a flat land (under 1k feet) expect the shorter loop to take 3-4 hours including time for pictures.

This monument is full of wildlife and very interesting rock formations. Everything from the lichens to the lizards on the rocks were captivating. This place is worth going out of your way for a visit.

I am a big fan of this monument, and adjoining Wilderness and National Forest areas. It was my favorite when I lived in the southwest. April is the peak month, but I have camped there in mid-March and experienced evenings around 40 F ( 5 C), which is good enough for me. At one seminar when asked I said it was my favorite vacation destination, while other people were naming beach resorts (Ha!). I hope to visit here again soon. I bought some souvenirs and maps at the visitor center, but spent most of my time on the nearby trails. They also have relevant books for sale.

Long drive through barren desert to get there. It is really in the middle of nowhere. Then you arrive in an oasis of pine and fir trees and monolithic outcroppings that are truly otherworldly. It is a site to behold. Nice gift shop and small campground that requires reservations. No food or gasoline services.

Great place to enjoy nature. Enjoyed hiking a variety of trails and checking out some great birds. Visitor center is worth a look, too. Several exhibits and knowledgeable, friendly staff. They recommended some hikes that everyone in the family could enjoy. The kids had fun on the Sugarloaf trail because they liked making it to the top to see the lookout post. The view is fantastic. We also hiked the Echo Canyon loop, which was amazing. We'll definitely be back.

Walking in the middle of June among these giants of rock, without meeting a soul for hours .. it was a memorable experience! The loop that allows you to see the big balanced rock and the pinnacle balanced rock is highly recommended!
