The best scones I've had in England so far. This is no small praise; I have sampled scones across the country. They're bigger and really great at our local farm shop, but these are better, something I didn't think I'd ever find after having so many disappointing iterations! They come with plenty of clotted cream, and the cream is also much better than back in East of England (obviously).

Very nice staff. Even for our 'difficult' eaters they were very kind to think with us, solving any allergy food problems with a smile as well. The food was wonderful and tasty! Lovely, nice atmosphere to top.

Great place to spend time with family and friends. Tasty afternoon tea with prossecco. some cakes looked and tasted like they are shop bought so this could be improved. Nice indoor and outdoor seating, river nearby and dogs allowed. Very nice place

Couldn't give better fating as there was a wedding on at the Hotel, and as accommodating as the staff try to be, we all know there are few people as obnoxious as wedding guests. As we had to sit outside, I can tell you the grounds are quite nice. You have a chance to pay the hotel to park there too. I assume this is a money making thing to do with Wistman's Wood, as the car park for that is quite small.

Very disappointing, overpriced and the food was sub par. For example the roll for the crayfish and prawn sub was stale plus it was more of a defrosted prawn roll with no hint of the mentioned sweet chilli sauce and two crayfish tails. More

Very cosy and accommodating traditional hotel. Lighter food served in the large bar / lounge / reception area, where you can also take your dogs and walking boots, through to full three course food in their restaurant. Very well located to local walks over the moor, and very popular (even in winter!).

Crossing the moors you arrive at this centuries old coaching inn at the point where two rivers meet - crossed by two ancient bridges. You can have a lovely cream tea by the fireside and then take a gentle walk down to Wistman's Wood - with it's twisted landscape of rocks, lichens and stunted oaks. The hotel keeps a family of ducks which delight children.

Had the 3 course meal Sunday menu. The service was very good. The food was good. But the description on the menu was in places vague and so what turned up was not quite what was expected. It was still good, but felt if the menu was clearer then it would avoid disappointment.

I suspect if you re a resident this might be charming but don t bother if you re popping in for a walkers lunch.

We waited nearly 10 minutes outside the back door of their function room whilst an utterly useless weekend waiter wandered aimlessly round the 3 tables inside.

Finally catching his attention with our third knock, we were told to help ourself to one of several trestle tables, all covered in crumbs. The room may work as a wedding room but despite period features, it s utterly devoid of any atmosphere whatsoever. Like sitting in a cold, old fashioned sports hall!

A lack of door closer to the chilly breeze and useless waiter meant that we had to shut the door 3 times before being served.

Food came quickly but was immediately evident that if the main restaurant and hotel gained its rosettes rightfully, either the management, chef or both has changed, or their priority for walkers and casual lunch goers is rock bottom.

I believe bar food in a hotel should represent the main restaurant on a more casual basis. Here all food was consistently awful:

- microwaved sausage roll with flacid, greasy pastry
- fat santa roll full of curiously round-shaped slices of turkey meat, potato, stuffing and sharp tasting cranberry in a rock solid bun, oddly with a chilli seasoning on top
- ditto with the fish finger sandwich: same rock solid bun and sloppy lashings of vinagrey tartar. In fairness, the battered fish was reasonable.
- triple-cooked chips either doughy or solid but all completely underdone. How you can undercook a triple-cooker chip is completely beyond me. Simply a lie.
- rock solid scone with no raisins. Suspect this was either left out all day or undercooked from frozen.

Passable coffee but hot chocolates clearly from a packet.

Pint of Jail Ale was reasonably well kept.

Not sure why they bother to dress staff in waistcoats when several have their shirts untucked. One lovely girl, but otherwise gormless and going through the motions.

Took the kids to the loo (which were pleasantly clean) and walked through a cosy bar full of enticing chesterfields, an unlit fireplace and absolutely no one sitting there since only hotel guests allowed. What a total waste. Hope this is simply a Covid measure?

We discussed our thoughts with two tables around us who had exactly the same reaction.

With the sheer volume of traffic through Two Bridges and walkers to Wistman s woods, this hotel should be teeming with people but suspect there are many like us who would never consider a revisit.

Hope managment will take note and make urgent changes.
