We stayed here for a family get together at a weekend and had a great time. The hotel is in a good location in the heart of Dartmoor National Park and a fine place to relax after a walk. The bar/lounge areas are really comfy with warm, open fires and the bar provides a wide range of drinks and food including afternoon tea.
Our room was okay and had plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 children. However, the shower wasn't very effective as it wasn't fitted up high. The food in the restaurant was very nice and really well presented. Breakfast was extensive with plenty of choices. Finally, the staff are all really friendly and very helpful.

Stayed in room 4, which is a B&B room with breakfast included. Loved it! Except the shower, which is too weak and the drain doesn't work well so the dirty water pools around your feet as you shower. Gross! I hope they sort the shower pressure & drains because I'm going back next year. As for the food, it was mostly nice. I had the venison dish for dinner and it was delicious. I had the Almond panacotta and it tasted great but unfortunately wasn't set properly so it was more like a custard. First day breakfast I opted to have the eggs benedict. Eggs poached perfectly. But the hollandaise had split so that put me off a bit. It was tasty though. Second day, I had the full English, asked for the scrambled eggs to be cooked softly and they were! Fabulous! It tasted good but I had to season everything as they had not put any salt or pepper. These were available from a grinder at the table. Selection of fruit juices, fruit salad, organic fruit yoghurts, granola, cereal, milk, tea or coffee, croissants and pain au chocolat. Unfortunately, no bread or sliced cheese and ham. Best for last: I had the cream tea. The scones were the best I've had so far! I had them while I was sat by the fireplace. This hotel has loads of character and you get amazing views of Dartmoor when you're driving to the hotel. I also loved the animals roaming around.

Stayed five nights in mid October, loved every moment of it. The room was very comfortable, nicely decorated, food was excellent (I'm not sure what special ingredient was in the gravy, but the bangers and mash was tremendous). The staff was excellent, friendly and attentive. Nice bar, loved the couches and easy chairs by the fires. Convenient access to pretty much all of Dartmoor, Wistmans Wood, just across the road, is a good hike. Beautiful location set in a beautiful part of the UK. Would go back in a heartbeat.

If you are willing to wait a little while they serve high quality food. From tea and coffee up to a three course dinner. Hill walkers and hotel guests alike mix in the bar and restaurant. The open fires on a chilly January afternoon are particularly cosy, and it sits in a lovely location. I bet it would be busy in the peak of summer, probably worth a phone call to check availability, but well worth a booking. Highly recommended.

Good service, tasty food, on the pricey side but given the location, reasonable. 'Remote' yet oddly central for Dartmoor, Tavistock, Plymouth, Exeter, the South Hams. Fantastic walking centre.

Went in for a Cream tea with friends. Service was good and food tasted great. It was rather busy so finding somewhere to sit where we could all be together was challenging but that's likely the result of a weekend lunch time.

Muddy boots or paws are not an issue here in the middle of Dartmoor. Great places for touring. Excellent service and fabolous food!

Well what can I say about this Inn and it's location that has not already been told. Stunningly beautiful location in the heart of Dartmoor with the original bridges still there of which you can walk / drive over! Friendly staff and a wonderful vintage interior including fireplaces made this a visit to remember! Will be coming again when back in Devon!

Good but pricey food... expect to queue for drinks and if you're unlikely an outside table. If it's Sunday between 4 and 7 your stuck with a very limited menu.... even chefs need a break!

It is a lovely hotel with some very dedicated staff who could not be nicer or more helpful, but a lot of the staff go through the motions and say the right things, but there is little or no assistance or any help provided. They come across as if they don't care about the guests.

In the past this hotel was staffed by more local people to the area, but now they seem to be from another nationality other than English. Whatever makes the staff feel uncaring to guests is anything to do with nationality of staff I really don't know, I must also say again there are some truely fantastic members of staff where nothing is to much for them.

I would and will stay here again and I would still recommend this hotel as somewhere to stay. In my view the hotel is not very suitable for children. But it is well worth staying a few nights here, the food is very good as are the cream teas.

Today I took two friends to a UKIP lunch. One hundred in total attended. The lunch was okay. After the lunch there was tea and coffee. We waited for it to be served but all the staff had disappeared. After half an hour we had to fetch our own tea, coffee, milk and cups from a table at the end of the room. Very disappointing.

It's in a beautiful location, we stopped in on our way back from Cornwall just for a drink and didn't want to leave, the only fault was that we had a piece of cake each and considering it was right there it took a bit of time arriving, otherwise lovely seating areas and chairs you could fall asleep in, especially after a long walk!

The fish and chips was not the standard I would expect, and the service was poor. There seemed to be only one member of staff taking orders for both food and drink, and then preparing the drinks. It took nearly ten minutes to order one glass of wine. We shan't be going back.

The signposting into the actual bar is very poor, spent a couple of minutes trying to find our way in as they've closed the hotel door. Once inside its pleasant enough. But no one wants to be traipsing around in this heat.

Lovely cosy little (maybe not so little) hotel in the middle of the moor. The location is perfect, a mere 15 minute drive to the just as idyllic village of Widecombe if you want something to do with your day that is less out-doorsy. Or if that is what you're looking for then my personal favourite is a medium walk up to Wistman's Wood, a creepy yet also beautifully strange mini-wood that is about an hours walk away.

Probably one of the main pros for the actual hotel is the classic devon afternoon tea. An afternoon tea consisting of a full hearty scone, plenty of jam and cream, multiple cakes, and a few sandwiches, I honestly can't complain about it. (My waistband can though).

The main dining room is classy, the lounge is cosy and the bar is traditional.

One of my favourites!

A lovely old place with bags of atmosphere and good service. Have visited a few times over the years and enjoyed the ambience of the place, located as it is near the centre of Dartmoor with lovely walks and many amemities.
