New name and a fresh coat of pain(t), same old "Edge of Death".
I had to take a friend there this summer with severe abdominal pain. While he was being treated in the ER I went to admissions to start his paperwork. The admissions lady said that they had no idea he was back there despite the fact I heard the paramedic radio ahead his information. Upon entry they gave him a standard IV bag to increase his fluids but nothing was given for pain. For half an hour the only person we saw in his ER cubical was the admissions lady who wanted his credit card so she could charge the insurance and get his co-pay. He was in so much pain that he could not even move the slightest bit without excruciating pain. A nurse finally showed up after fifteen minutes later to take him off for some test. When he came back he was still in extreme pain. We asked the nurse if she could do anything to help him out. She only said "I'll let the doctor know". We never saw her again.
The admissions lady made another appearance to let us know the hospital had successfully billed the insurance company and that his payment was successfully made and gave him the receipt.
After another twenty minutes another nurse shows up to administer some medicine (that was not in the pain relief category) We asked her "Why does he need this medicine?" Her reply is that "they think it's ********* that's the problem." We asked again if there was ANYTHING she could to help him with the pain. She said. "I'll let the doctor know."
Another fifteen minutes later a discharge nurse shows and another nurse shows up. The nurse says she's got something to help with the pain and pushes it into his IV with such force that he's now screaming from having someone grabbing his IV hand and from pushing a medicine extremely fast. The discharge nurse starts telling us what the different papers she's handing us are for.
Not once did anyone come in just to check up on him or see how he was doing.
We NEVER saw a doctor. I understand that the nurses are the backbone of the ER, but a doctor never showed up to tell my friend what was going on, answer any questions or say why he thought that ******* was the problem. For all we know there was no doctor. It may have been the nurses acting on their own.
Our 2 hour visit to the Edge netted us with 4 nurse visits, one admissions visit (twice) and no doctor at all.
Fifteen minutes after we left the hospital he was still in extreme pain.
If you are seconds from death then go here as a last resort. If you have some time, then you are way better off getting the ambulance to take you Montgomery or Dothan.
I'm being nice and giving them 2 stars because he didn't die there.
