Took our 19 y o nephew from SC to help further his education into music on LPs. Of course picked him up a shirt to brag at home & some jams, for nephew and hubby. The decor kept me amused for at least an hour!

This place is so cool. Highly recommend splurging the $20 to record a gritty sounding vinyl in the little old timey recording booth. They ll let you borrow a 3/4 size guitar if you want to strum a tune.
Loved the the band Mattiel. Every song they played was great. Mattiel has a wonderful stage presence. The music makes you want to dance. Hope they come back soon. Third Man Records is a very interesting and unique venue. Jack White has done an awesome job with the place. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much the whole block has changed since I was last there. Looks great!
Beautifully curated record store. Features all the TMR records, special live recordings from the venue and a selection of 7" singles from Sun records. Old school vinyl recording booth available - the ones your grand parents told you about.
Went there on Sunday morning, right when they opened. So fresh! Loved it. Like walking into a house and wanting to sit down and read, or play some music. We will be back
They sell records and also make them here. The place even has a stage with live music acts that play often. History is being made in this building. Jack White has helped to make Detroit a cultural icon once again. This record press/music venue/record store is very impressive and color coded. You can even make your own record in a small booth in the front area of the store. Do yourself a favor and stop into Third Man Records to see for yourself all the wonderful creations that live inside of this significant place.
Great place to buy blues records. I now understand what all the fuss is about. If you like Jack White, you ll like this shop. Unfortunately when I went to watch the Vinyl pressings being made they had stacked freight in front of the viewing window. Aw well, still cool.
Must see. The record store is super cool. Staff is very friendly. Loads of vinyl. Record pressing goes on in the back. The whole process is explained. That is worth the trip right there.
While Jack White or The White Stripes aren't my jam this place is a cool stop for music lovers. Watching vinyl get pressed is enough for a reason for a quick pop in
Super cool record store and factory! You can see how the records are made in the back of the store. Seems like that have live music. V friendly staff. Definitely worth a stop here to at least check out the store. It s in a strip of other cool stores, foods, and brews too.
Just Cool. Everything about this place is cool. If you like music, vinyl records, watching vinyl records being made, or Jack White this is the place to go.
Great store, feels like a disneyland of music. I loved that you have a view of the vinil fabric an have a chance to see the action first hand. There are pieces of furniture that Jack upholstered himself. Amazing place. You must definately check out the photobooth
Stopped on a rainy Tuesday morning. The guy behind the counter ( Jamie I think). Was AWESOME. Walked me around as I asked questions, suggested records based on my tastes and you can tell he loves his job.
If you are a fan of music and are in the area you should stop here. Check out the vinyl presses in the back, throw down some lyrics in the recording booth, then squirt yourself out a little copy of the Third Man rolling record shop. Once you've done that, grab some cool swag, and pick yourself up some records (or CDs) of some of your favorite music. Also, check out some of the Blue Room recordings. An incredibly diverse collection of recordings. Very cool place to visit!
Sweet pressing plant view from inside storefront and also available plant tours are a great event to have. The creative surroundings are really fun and being a huge Jack White fan I found it very exciting to just be there and also shop for souvenirs/records
This is a fascinating store with a great vibe. I don't think you need to be a fan of Jack White to appreciate what he's done with the place. Of course, if you are a fan than this will be somewhat of a trip to Mecca.
I guess you never know who you'll run in to there because....We met Jack White today! I surprised my daughter w/ a hookie day from school and took her to Third Man Records because it was her 14th birthday. When we pulled up I jokingly said "what if Jack White is there"...she said "yeah right. no way!" and we proceeded to walk in the store. We were absolutely amazed at the store. Such a nice area down there now, and this store is the coolest! It is almost museum-like with neat things sprinkled through out and the staff was friendly too. The record factory was really neat to view also. Good vibes, man. Great prices, in my opinion. We were totally impressed, then...out of nowhere appears Jack White-walking through the store like nothing! He was SO nice! He waved, said "hi" and shook our hands. I told him it was my daughters birthday and he pulled her in for a hug and told her happy birthday...then in a flash he was gone. I think it's safe to say, this birthday is one for the books. What a cool guy-with great talent and a generous spirit. I'm thankful that he's helping to put some sparkle back in Detroit.
Yes, I was one of the crazy people who waited in line in the freezing rain for the grand opening of Detroit's Third Man Records last year. We thought about leaving but I'm so glad we didn't. I was really excited to see the store, but it was also about paying respect to Jack White for opening such an amazing place back where his career began. The store feels like a musical amusement park. A really fun experience. Appealing to the eyes and ears, Third Man Records is a place you should not miss when visiting Detroit!
Visited the Detroit store. Wonderful to see how an LP is printed. The place is definitely worth a visit ... but I expected more choice although obviously tend only to include in the sale to the public artists products from them. For Jack White fans there are no problems, you will find a lot of material dedicated to him.
It s a cool place to see and has a pretty solid hipster vibe going but if you are into Jack White and / or Tje White Stripes then you should pay it a visit. Gave it 4/5 because the retail record selection was very limited.
We were very lucky that we walked in the doors about fifteen minutes before a (only the 16th!) tour of the pressing floor. The guide Jaime was extremely knowledgeable not only of Third Man Records (both as a label and manufacturer) but also of industry standards. He was perfectly nerdy about the science of pressing vinyls and excitable about the upcoming releases, and in addition to this surprise and pleasant tour, the storefront flaunts its quirky yellow-black aesthetic with such rock-'n'-roll confidence you can't help but be enamored and slack-jawed at the live recordings, decor, and offered merchandise. Absolutely plan your visit around tour availability!
Well, frankly vinyl wasn't that great when I was a kid, but the album cover art really made the experience. Thee comback is NOT about better sound, it's nostalgia, and economics, have to buy it physically to have it, no apple in the loop. Kudos to Jack for building this place, but a lot of those kudos get washed out by abandoning the Detroit music scene for Nashville.
Incredible selection of vinyl and music merchandise, mainly Jack White related stuff. . The store is really beautifully set up, tons of yellow and black and just very well designed. There is a stage for performances, records being pressed out back (you can tour on Saturday s), photo booth, recording booth, etc. The photo and recording booths weren t working when we went which was a bit of a bummer.
