Charming theater with wonderful architectural design
Newly renovated but a bit small. The seating is velvety but really narrow and when you sit on the left side in the last seat you can't see anything what was going on ,on stage.
The seating at this theatre leaves a lot to be desired. Seats too small and no leg room. If you get orchestra higher than row M, the seats are on steps so it's like sitting in the mezz as far as keg room is concerned. On the other hand, we saw Linda Vista and it isTracy Letts at his funniest and finest.
Was recently at this theater to see Torch Song. The show was an emotional masterpiece nevermind that, the theater is the topic. personally, I love this theater. I believe it is the smallest of the Broadway theaters which means that every seat is it good one. While it's nice to sit in the orchestra, the balcony views are all good. The ladies bathrooms are generous - Broadway wise - and the intimacy of the theater space is conducive to a fully immersive experience.
Nice. Seats remind me of airplane seating. Very cramped.
Beautiful theater. Small intimate setting. Great place to see a show.
A wonderful small venue. We saw The Humans last night. We had great seats, but the theater seems small enough that all of the seats seem very good.
Great play, Straight White Men, but seats are so small and close together, you can't move your legs to cross them
Loved Torch Song! Great cast, and while the script is set in time, many of the themes still have weight today.
What a horrible theater!!! They lost our tickets and made us stand in the hallway, while their rude and confrontational security shuffled us around and made SURE we knew that we were in the way. We did not ask for them to lose our tickets and to be standing there. They made us feel like we were less than. To compound matters, I m disabled and they refused to find me somewhere to sit. Absolutely atrocious. The pinnacle of Broadway could be at this theater and I d never come back.
Wonderful historic theater... Sightlines seem good from everywhere. Perfect venue for Heidi Schreck's What the Constitution Means to Me, which gets ten stars from me.
This is the only theater on Broadway that exclusively produces plays by living American playwrights. Nice little theater. Orchestra seats that are near the walls on either side will not have a full view of the stage. My seat was H 8, which is third in from the wall, and the far right side of the stage was out of my view.
This theater looks fresh and new. Acoustics are great, sightlines, too. Staff is wonderful, especially the box office. But the seats in the rear of the orchestra are still cramped.
Linda vista, great show in this delightful theater.
This is a delightful theatre. The smallest theatre on Broadway. Not a bad seat in the house.
Beautifully restored Broadway theatre. Great color palate. Not a bad seat in the house! Saw Linda Vista, a wonderful comedy / drama, written by Tracy Letts. My wife and I loved it!!
Nice old small theater. Comfortable seats and friendly staff.
The seats are pretty hard. Otherwise a good space.
Clean venue, seats were ok only a little tight but keep in mind an old theatre. Production was great. More intimate theatre for small productions. Easy to navigate on inside.
Beautiful small Broadway house. Saw "Linda Vista." Written by Tracy Letts and directed by Dexter Bullard. Fantastic show!!
Loved this small theater. Went to see Lobby Hero and the play was Great!!!
The theatre is fairly small and the seating is horrible. I felt I was sitting in a pack subway between two fat people that s how tight the seating was in there. And not to mention the legroom is horrible I m average height but if I was 6 2 I would cry because the legroom space is very tight my legs were hurting at the end of the play. The play lobby hero was amazing it s 5 stars but the theatre seating really ruined my experience all I was thinking about standing up because of the pain I felt on my legs.
Saw Linda Vista. Loved the cast and the play. Very thought provoking.
Nice place for a small shows. Good times, in a clean, neat small place.
It's New York. It's close to this crazy place called Times Square. The theatre is relatively small and every seat offers a good view. What's not to like?
Lobby Hero was brilliantly poignant and hilariously funny at the same time. The venue was clean and pretty. Seats had a great view. Staff were friendly and helpful. Really made my trip (came from London for this show).
Looking forward to seeing Straight White Men!
Meh! The seat are not comfortable, this should be illegal. The entire time I felt like I m in a car accident
Update: seats in orchestra are also small and make you feel fat even if you are not
What the Constitution means to me was a wonderful show really great. But the venue is horrible. The seats are way too small and the aisles insanely tiny. My knees were jammed up against the seat in front of me the whole time. There was some horrible high pitch buzzing noise coming out of the speaker system that lasted the whole show was quite distracting. Honestly I will void shows at this venue in the future no matter how good they are.
We were a party of five ranging in height from 5 3 - 5 7. All of us had our knees wedged into the seats in front of us. It made for very uncomfortable viewing. However, we all found the seats wide enough and had no issue viewing the stage. Personally, I would not return to the this theater
A theater is as good as good as the content. So on this occasion it was great.
Uncomfortable if you're sitting anywhere in the mezzanine! Time to renovate!
Show was great seats were awful small and uncomfortable
The seats are a bit narrow and there could be a little more knee room, but otherwise wonderful. One of the smaller Broadway theaters. You can see and hear everything from just about anywhere.
Absolutely worst play ever. Fire alarms continued to go off all during the play
Came here for "Lobby Hero" and the place is very cozy. It is a bit small, however, that kind of adds a bit of privacy to the experience. Which is nice. Got to see Chris Evans and Michael Cera!
The restoration and renovation of this jewel-box theater is nothing short of exquisite. The installation of an elevator makes it so much easier to go from lower level bar and restroom to mezzanine. And the addition of a Broadway-sized house to the roster of theaters in which 2nd Stage Theater presents its season brings this wonderful organization up to the same level of professionalism and possibility as the Roundabout, Manhattan Theater Company, and Lincoln Center Theatre.
I want more chairs / benches to sit on *in the lobby.* For the show (".. Constitution..."), I hated the loud 'junk music' they played in the half-hour before the curtain went up. :(
What the Constitution Means to Me is a play all Americans should see.
There is an advantage to this being the smallest of the Broadway theatres - even in the back you're not that far from the stage! Plus they just re-upholstered all the seats so they're nice and comfortable.
Play, What the Constitution Means to Me, was outstanding. The seats in the Helen Hayes theater are too small! And I'm only 5'10"
Nicely upgraded, bottlenecked exit, very very cold, excellent staff.
First row mezzanine. Great view. No leg room at all. I was uncomfortable the whole night. Other than that it's a beautiful theater; wonderfully restored; nice and small.
We're going there for Armie Hammer.
Hayes Theater is right in the heart of Broadway, on 44th Street, near the Marriot Times Square. A typical Broadway theater: old, renovated, room of some 660 seats with mezzanine, comfortable seating. I was at the orchestra level at $149 USD, so among the best places.
The production featured Straight White Men with Armie Hammer, co-star of Call Me by Your Name and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Josh Charles, another movie star (Hairspray, S.W.A.T., Threesome, etc.). New Broadway way : a lot of productions with movie stars, for a limited number of weeks. In this case, from the end of June to the end of August 2018.
The play boils down to a "very guys" meeting on Christmas Eve : the father and the 3 brothers who seem to play the same scenario over and over, from Christmas to Christmas. Armie Hammer plays the youngest brother, a writer. Very good play, even if he made his debut on Broadway. A quarter-turn staging, including several choreographies from their childhood. Very "guys" and very funny.
The comedians are available for autographs and photos after the show, outdoors. Armie Hammer is very generous, distributing signatures and smiles to the heart.
A pleasant evening that starts at 19:00 and ends at 20:30, the usual hours of shows on Broadway that give time to restore afterwards.
Nice theater. Adequate leg space. Well light. Good seats regardless of location. Organized entry.
I don't remember what show I saw here but I remember the leg room here was non-existant.
Beautifully redone BUT so tightly packed, seats are on top of each other, NO coat check - this really ruined our experience watching lobby hero.
Saw Rock of Ages here. Theater was ok but the play was amazing.
Lovely small theater . . .I don't think there could be a bad seat.
Great seats when I saw the The Audience! It was a powerful performance by the whole cast!
Nice small theater good view from most seats in the orchestra, but the seats are kind of cramped.
Just finished watching this amazing show! All four men were absolutely intriguing! You didn't know what they were gonna say next!! Armie Hammer was charming, highlarious, and intense in his debut on Broadway. Def worth the watch! It was also surprisingly short and sweet. Left the audience wanting to spend more holidays with this lovely fam.
Saw the Broadway show Torch Song. Excellent story. Excellent acting. Wow!
Rock of Ages was so awesome! The theatre might seem small, but they make the show look great!
MY KNEES ARE SCREAMING AT ME!
Apparently the Helen Hayes has undergone a recent renovation. The pink crushed velvet seats were lovely on my behind, and the width is good even thought I'm roomy through the hips. But the leg room... I barely remember the last act because my knees started to hurt so much.
I doubt any of the orchestra seats outside of the first row are any better, but Q 102 gave me fits. I know I became the worst seat neighbor after the intermission because I couldn't find a way to place my legs that wasn't absolute agony. If you're over 6 feet, I don't know what to tell you. You're doomed.
I usually have better luck in the mezzanine, but the photos look tight up there as well.
The pixilated patterned walls are a bit odd, but it all fades into the background when the house lights go down.
I'm super curious if the renovation is an improvement or not.
I saw Lobby Hero with Michael Cena, Chris Evans, Brian Tyree Henry, & Bel Powley.
The staging was great and the stage itself was large enough for the fairly intimate space. I was seated center orchestra, second to last row, and despite being blind as a bat, I could still make out Chris Evans' circa 90s mustache. The play is very funny by the way. My $35 orchestra rush tickets were a great value!
If I ever come back, I'm just going to choose the mezzanine right off the bat. There's no hope at all for my knees in the Orchestra.
The smallest Broadway theater with only 597 seats, it is hard to go wrong in this space. The Second Stage Theater company has done a great job keeping this a viable working house with interesting presentations. Last row of the orchestra was fine, cannot imagine that the balcony is bad at this size.
Nice little theater as far as Broadway goes. No bad views.
Newly renovated. Comfortable views from all levels. Always something good playing there.
