We used to visit this restaurant but after our terrible experience with a young officious lady who greated us and almost shouted at my husband never again.. She was very unhelpful with their new outdoor ordering via app procedure telling us to load the app then order and couldn't help. Unfortunately the sun was shining and we had difficulty seeing phone screen but still no help. We left and had lovely meal elsewhere and luckily this saved my husband's birthday lunch experience

Planned on having lunch there, at first no staff in sight then when they did show up they were unfriendly and rude so we left.
There are far better alternatives within a short distance, will never go there again!
Highly recommend The Poachers Inn in South Warnborough

Great place to stop by on a canal walk! Situated right by Basingstoke Canal, there is parking provided for walkers and some lovely views as well as the atmosphere inside. Good selection of beers, wines and food

4 of us for Sunday lunch were not impressed. 2 ordered mixed lunch. Pork. Beaf and Turkey. Not sure they got the pork as if the did it looked and tasted like turkey. Portion were small . Pub was not busy on Sunday lunchtime . We should have known. I ordered coliflower chess which was just coli with hot
chess melted over it. Cheese board consisted of smallest grapes I have ever seen 1 slice of blue cheese with rind still on and 2 slices of chedar and biscuits. Felt as if the kitchen could not be bothered.

I return to this pub with some frequency. It's has a nice, homey atmosphere with friendly staff. I usually get their standard burger with all the trimmings, and frequently finish with a slice of chocolate cake. They also have a nice lasagne and a fantastic steak and ale pie. It's definitely worth the trip.

Great pub, right across from the Basingstoke canal so perfect to work up your appetite or burn off your food after with a nice stroll or row in a boat. Lovely pub with nice food and garden.

As a Chef and Brewer pub I was expecting a reasonably high standard but was a bit disappointed. Yes it was busy as has a decent sized garden. The food was ok but not great, the staff were friendly but appeared young and inexperienced, the manager when presenting the bill just threw it down onto the table. Won't be rushing back there.

Fish and chips is great! Also the Beer (do not remember the name). And the service is very nice. It is a quiet place in a small town, after fishing in the canal, you can enjoy their food and beer. Really relaxing. Great place! Recommend!

Disappointed. Why stop serving food outdoors early (8pm) on one of the hottest days of the year. Is it really so much extra effort? On top of this, the news that we had to eat indoors was delivered in a particularly dismissive way. Happy to avoid in future, I recommend you do the same.

I'm not sure who is the manager today. All I can tell you is hes a scruffy tramp! Stood there wearing Reebok classics shirt hanging out. Some staff phoned in sick. So the whole pub were waiting for food. We arrived at 12. Our food came out at 2! The poor chef was running back and forth taking order whist trying to cook and do drinks. All the time this poor guys was clearly struggling your tramp manager was stood doing nothing waiting at the bar.the bloke is a joke. We are regulars and wont be coming back as long as he works or should I say stand there

Faulty towers in the making sorry. Came down for my dads 80th birthday. Waiting 2 hrs for food and no communication except from the poor guy doing the running around, we just gave up and left.
Manger of the waterwitch Put a sign up sorry due to staff shortage won t be doing food today not that hard. Saves the staff getting stressed and customers getting fed up.

Very very poor service, if it was possible I would give it no stars. Arrived around 18:45 were told no more food orders until 19:30, when our order was finally taken after another 20 mins we were told several items that we ordered were not available. After ordering the limited selection that was available we waited over an hour before complaining only to be told we would have to wait longer, not to mention in the mean time ordering drinks that took 20 minutes and I had to go to the bar and ask again whilst our drinks order was sat on a tray behind the bar.
After finally getting the drinks sorted over an hour later the food still hadn't arrived. After yet another complaint we were told it would be another 20 minutes buy a member of staff that seemed like she had no idea of how things were. To conclude I would never visit there again and would advise against it unless you have a full evening to spare.

The waitress was lovely...food was awful. Bubble and squeak and the egg was overcooked so no yolk and the sauce was bitter and vinegary but we went with it...two out of three mains not available due to a delivery issue, I ordered the roast pork, when it arrived there was no crackling and only when i asked was I then hold they didn't have any! I didn't ask what happened to the advertised stuffing!!! I had to remind them that I had ordered dauphinoise potatoes but when they arrived they were inedible. I couldn't cut through my pork and half the roast potatoes were floury and I could not eat them..took my dinner and side off the bill but an evening out was ruined...tables all around us were also complaining about the food. Like I said, waitress was lovely and felt so sorry for her but when she said if we come back we should phone ahead so they can make sure our meals are properly prepared I could have laughed! We won't be returning and friends who had booked for next week have now cancelled

Came here and ordered the Sunday roast with three meats. I must of ordered the wrong dish as I've eaten here many times before, and the food is usually very good. Not this time. Apart from the small helping of Turkey, the meat was inedible. Chewy, fatty and tough. The veg wasn't great either. A bit overdone and not much flavour. The staff were great and very helpful, as always, but the food was well below standard. It won't put me off coming back here again but I'll certainly never order another Sunday roast. Lesson learnt, I suppose.

Came here while out little one was on a canal boat trip with the beavers. We were an early sitting for dinner, but that wasn t a problem. The pub is not overcrowded with tables, not noisy and has a good outside area as well.
The food we had was well cooked, well presented and portion sizes were sensible rather than an overstuffed plate. The staff were friendly and professional. Service was order at the bar rather than table service hit that s fine and we were able to run a tab for the table when we ordered.
Would recommend and we will come again.

We had booked a table for 22 Feb lunch time to celebrate my birthday.
We arrived early, just be4 midday. Some guests having drinks but no staff to be seen. A person, not sure if he was the manager, strolled up, booked us in and showed us to a table. He asked if we had been be4, answer no, first time. He said he had only been.there for 2 weeks, so.hopefully this.might give a clue as.to.whom he was.

We waited 1 1/2 hours for starter, another 30.mins or so for mains. Cold chips, part of order.missing, not good.at all. Others started to.complain too as we were.not the only.ones.

The poor staff member who.was left on his own.at the end,.Just couldn't cope and.was.very upset, stressed and .in tears. He was trying.his best. By a said that hit was the second.time.he had been.called.in whilst.on.holiday this week.to cover.

Fine, we.didnt.pay for the meal, but the.management of this establishment should be ashamed to.leave staff to.sort.out their.in mess and.in.competence.

Intend.to.contact head.office.of.chai and make.situation.known.to.them.

The pub itself is a really nice place. Booking online is easy good. Upon arrival we were sat at our table given the menus and left for a long time, during which time I saw three staff members just standing around talking. Eventually I had to go and ask them if we could order our food and drinks...to which one of them responded immediately. Apart from this little hiccup everything else was good, the food was great, the following service picked up greatly. I would recommend this pub to everyone and hope that they enjoy their time there as much as we did.
