The Used Computer Store Review

I've come here a few times for different things. My over all feeling is that they are incredibly disorganized, slow, and over priced. They might be fine for picking up a cable but don't leave your stuff there. They say they will call you when they are done working on your computer (or hard drive or whatever). They have NEVER called me back. I have had to call them every time and then they give a completely false estimate of time. When I initially dropped of my hard drive they told me it would be done in 3-5 days (which felt long for the very simple problem I had). I called more than a week later as I hadn't heard back from them. They told me I needed to bring in another hard drive to copy my data to. I did. They said it would take a few hours. I came back many days later and it still wasn't done. They again said it would be an hour or two and they would call me. They never called. I had to call them again. They charged me $120 for 2 hours work... of which I'll guess they were mostly passively waiting for files copy.

They are beyond messy and disorganized with computer, papers, and boxes haphazardly piled everywhere. I took a picture I was so shocked. Many of the used computers they sell seem very over priced. I considered buying one until I saw that I could get a brand new slightly better computer for the same price (or pay a little more and get a massively better new computer). They have a good location if you are walking from downtown Berkeley. Parking is terrible. Customer service wasn't the worst but wasn't great either.

Good prices, solid electronics, good people. If you have questions on what you need, they'll patiently help you out without any of the big box apathy or Apple store condescension. At the East Bay Bicycle Coalition, a local bike nonprofit, this is our go-to shop for all our electronics needs.

Good place. People are friendly and know what they're doing.

I bought a refurbished desktop computer from here last week. It is running great and for the price I paid I couldn't beat it. The staff was very patient with me and explained the pros and cons of each model and helped me find the perfect balance between power and price. I've been coming here for a while for various computer supplies and although their selection is a little limited and not that of radio of shack the prices are quite reasonable.

Very happy with my purchase of a Hewlett-Packard replacement cable for my PC for $40. Another store, M.A.C. Berkeley, wanted to charge me $60 for a third-party replacement cable.

Went in to buy a SATA cable. They had plenty. It does what a SATA cable is supposed to do.

Yes, prices are high but there the closest place in downtown Berkeley. Good for when you need a cable or adapter. Always been treated fairly and had no problem returning an external DVD-ROM when it didn't work. I've bought numerous cables, adapters and even a used computer and monitor there once. There's always Fry's Electronics for cheaper prices but then you have to go all the way to Concord.

Had a great experience buying a new power cord for my Mac. Knowledgeable and easy going, and the price was good.

Also, tons of obscure connectors, adapters, warts, plugs, cards, media.

If your older PC/mac needs a part that you wont find in the retail stores - they will more than likely have it here!

They say they re open 12-6 Monday - Saturday. Went there at 12:30 on a Tuesday and no one was there. Very unprofessional

Bill, the owner is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. He has lots of choices and if he doesn't have what you need in the store, he will get it for you. My entire family takes all of our computer repair needs to him and has for many years. Also, he is conveniently located as well in the heart of downtown Berkeley.

They have good selection of new and used computers and computer accessories. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful, if sometimes a bit busy.

The new location is coming together.

Can't say what the store is like, how theservice is, orw what the prices are. Can tell you that the store was closed at 445 on a Monday when the posted hours online and in the window say they are open 12 to 6.

Great people, very informative in a relaxed understandably way. Had to return a blue tooth adapter - they did so with a smile...

Very disappointed. I have one software that is used for mixing music. The author of the software says that it works best if my PC has 16 GIG of RAM. So, I went in to talk about how much it would cost to do that as well as having them do a tune up to help my PC run faster.

When I brought up the need for RAM, instead of just giving me a price, the guy says, "Well, does it run OK with the RAM you already have"? If it was running fine with what I had I would not have gone in to ask for the upgrade.

Shouln't it be the case that when a customer asks for something that whatever that is they go ahead and do it?

We talked about the tune up and I said I would bring my PC to him. I was somewhat put off that he gave me a hassle about what I wanted (The additional RAM Memory) s I ended up not going back.

Now I find out that I need ASIO drivers installed. I do not know how to do that properly, so I went back there to ask if they could do that.

Today I was waiting and he helped at least one or two customers who came in after me. I was standing at the counter the whole time directly in front of him.

A lady came in after me and he yet once again went up to her to help her. When I said, "Excuse me, I have been waiting here for 20 minutes ", he says "I have helped you two orb three times and you never brought your computer in". So, I guess he gets offended or something with no consideration that something else might have come upm for me that day that needed my immediate attention!

So, BE CAREFUL, I guess if he helps you and you don't bring him your computer he will just ignores you without saying anything. Is that a good way of doing business or not?

Despite any other good reviews, be careful that this owner will turn on you if you don't end up hiring him to do work for you.

Who taught this guy about good customer service?

They re friendly, very honest and their prices are very reasonable. I would recommend them.

Went there looking for a cable for my computer. When I asked if they had it, they said i didn't exist. They told me I should just buy one of there $80 power supplies instead because my power supply was bad. I almost bought it but when I got home, I found the cable I was looking for online !

I went in here looking for a particular kind of power cord that I was having trouble finding elsewhere, and they happened to have it, so I was really happy
