Service is usually good, nice setting, although pints are quite often warm or slightly flat.

Probably one of the best pubs in town if a little pricy.

Excellent food, drink and service. Love this place and the atmosphere of the old building. One of my top bar/restaurants look forward to it reopening hopefully in December

We had a meal in the evening. The food was excellent - fairly expensive but well presented, bountiful and very tasty. Service was a little slow and disorganised - it took some time for us to be able to order our food. Everyone was friendly enough though. As the night wore on, more staff seemed to appear, but they were hanging around the bar, like they were waiting for guests to leave. All in all, odd, but very good food.

The sun is one of the highlights of the Lancaster drinking scene. The bar is always well stocked and tended. The food is always locally sourced and of good quality. The rooms in the hotel are beautiful and well furnished.

We went for breakfast, the choice and quality of the food was excellent. Staff are friendly and professional. I would highly recommend that you visit.

Great place to stay if you need to be central, must book direct for complimentary breakfast next time.

One of the nicest pubs in Lancaster, great drinks and food. On the pricier side in comparison to local competition but still very good value for money.

Very good atmosphere, friendly staff. The tables around the back are lovely.

Stayed overnight whilst on a business trip. The accommodation was of a good standard and my room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Enjoyed an excellent steak in the restaurant and perfectly cooked eggs Benedict for breakfast. Would recommend and would stay again.

Was in briefly but the staff were pleasant and went out of their way to make the students I was showing around feel welcome

The real ale was excellent, the chicken parfait ditto.
The barman was very nice, kindly minding my bags whilst I fruitlessly tried to find somewhere nearby to park my motorbike, the young lady who served me was also genuinely nice and obviously cared about her customers.
The manageress/owner, not entirely sure which, very helpfully offered to print off all the car parks for me.

She's very attractive also, just saying.

We enjoyed a brilliant nights stay at The Sun hotel. I definitely recommend booking via their website to take advantage of the free breakfast offer, which was huge and freshly cooked to order. Comfortable room and good shower too.

Stayed at this absolutely stunning hotel, and I can't fault anything about it. The staff were so lovely and couldn't do enough for you, the food was beautiful and so was our room. The surroundings are also so lovely and our weekend was jam packed with things to do, day and night! Can not wait to come back!

Stayed here during Nov-20 when lockdown 2 hit us. Great communication on arrival and booking in process. Rooms were clean and spacious and bed was really comfy. The restaurant and bar wasn't open so can't really comment on that. Would definitely stay again.

Always a nice place for a quiet weeknight dinner and drink. Food is reliably good and they have great drink on tap. Staff is always exceptional. Very friendly and helpful. Weekends are busy-- best to book ahead.

I have been here a few times and have always found it to be charming and excellent.

The food is great, and I have been for a number of cheeseboards here too. They have a good selection of ales and beers. Equally they do have regional and seasonal specials too.

Atmosphere can be busy, but it never feels too busy and the staff have always been helpful and friendly.

Popped in here Saturday night with friends. Nice pub and friendly staff. Later on during the night a notice was placed on the table saying they serve you drinks which was good as it saves you going to the bar. Food looked really good too but on this occasion we weren t eating. Good atmosphere ok. We came back here again over the bank holiday and managed to sit outside. The sun was shining and the outdoor area was busy.

Very interesting and historic building, which has been nicely done up. The bar serves interesting beers and other drinks and the staff are very friendly. The bedroom was perfect and the breakfast magnificent.

Went in for lunch in a saturday, with my wife.

We ordered the Omniboard to share, with Vegie crisps and hummus to start. The food was excellent and good value. My only criticism is the Omniboard could have done with more bread.

They were happy to cater for Gluten Free, as I am coeliac and checked with the kitchen what I could eat.

All in all a good meal with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.
