I had a steak that was so good that later that evening I broke wind and it was a pleasant experience :-)

Food is okay, but DO NOT VALET YOUR CAR. I have a brand new car with less than 1,000 miles on it and the incompetent valet service was kind enough to drag my wheels all over the curb. Their food isn t good enough to put up with that.

Little overpriced and nearly impossible to get to downtown due to traffic now, but the food is amazing and totally worth it.

Just not one of my places to go, always packed and noisy. Food is decent.

Ok the Food was Good...not Great, but the Prices were Ridiculously Over the Worth! It was LOUD, we were Yelling to speak to each other. Ur paying for the Atmosphere... Wud Not go back there...

Service was prompt despite being busy. First time there... I do not recommend the brisket... brisket was blah, and the potatoes tasted like oatmeal... definitely not worth the $28

Very rude staff. 6 nicly dressed well to do from Chicago went to have drinks and oysters at 4:00 pm. The place was empty, we were told we could not have a table because of the dinner crowd. We eailsy would have spent $300 with a party of 6. Worst place ever. Get a clue Southern

I will never be back to this restaurant after the way our waitress treated us we spent almost 200.00 for 2 people and after we paid the waitress approached us and asked did she not give us good customer service and we told here she was great and she said well your tip did not reflect that. It was very bad customer service you just dont tell customers something like that

I ordered the steak where you get to choose the cut and the size. It was cooked so perfectly I almost cried. We also ordered fried chicken which comes with pasta and that was also amazing.

One of the WORST dining experiences I have ever had.
1) Dinner reservations for 8 people made months ago for 8pm in the main room, didnt get seated until 8:45. 3 people from the previous party lingered at the table talking. OK fine, be a professional staff and politely invite them to finish their drinks at the bar or move them to a smaller table. Instead, they moved our party to a back room with a 60 inch TV directly over our heads glaring over the table, fine for a sports bar, not a "fine" restaurant.
2) Hostess offered us complimentary appetizers and after 15 minutes, moved us in to the main room, OK nice recovery.
3)Apps were nice and so were the smoked oysters
4)After an in depth conversation with the waiter, we decided to have steak for 6 served to the table with one of our party ordering a burger. when we wondered if that was going to be too much, the waiter stated "don't worry, I have you covered"
5)If you have ever been to a real steak place, ordering steak for 6 to the table comes plated and cut, served family style. Instead, they brought out individual steaks of varying types as personal orders. We all immediately looked at each other and laughed...we were hungry and trying not to ruin our night so we shrugged it off... what else could go wrong...ha
6) we ordered medium rare: The steak was so rare we all had trouble cutting them, oh and the burger was cold. We did order a pork chop which was very good.
7)Something I have NEVER done and after a conversation with a manager, we sent the steaks back. I dont know how they managed to do it, but i think they came back even rarer. rare steak has its place, but not here and not these cuts of meat.
8)Beyond frustrated, we had a conversation with the manager again and asked to have our steaks taken off the bill. After some wrangling, we had them take off ALL the food.
9)to cap off a joke of a night, the waiter blamed a "fight in the kitchen" for the subpar cooking of our food. Really? come on, we are 8 professionals from around the country, not some fools out for the first time.
Sorry Nashville, your food scene is having some growing pains, stick with Hot Chicken and BBQ

Incredible food! I had the chicken waffles and by far they were the best I have had in Nashville. Can't wait to go back!

Great for lunch & brunch! I have never been to the Southern for dinner, but it's a great spot for lunch and brunch. The food has always been good, and the service is reliable.

Great food but limited menu for brunch. Group of 4 and all items were tasty. Only reason for the 4 was looking forward to a lunch menu item and could not get due to only bring brunch menu. Free valet parking is also a huge plus

Food is low end and uninteresting. Server was nice but not too skilled: got served the wrong beer, and food came out before we were done with the previous course.

3 out of the 4 people in our party got the runs about 7 hours after eating here. We had all eaten together at another restaurant a few hours later, but timing suggests it was this place.

My favorite in downtown Nashville, a must visit! The crab cakes were perfect, service excellent, and atmosphere spot on!

The food here is great. The dinning area is beautiful and a great place for a date. I particularly like the Belle, a well prepared filet.

We took our team here for a dinner. The staff were excellent. The steak was delicious and the menu has 4 pages of bourbon to choose from - which our waitress was enthusiastically able to make suggestion about. Top notch!

Great food, horrible after the sale service. Needed copies of my receipts for expense purposes and they were not responsive to my emails or phone calls with this request. Seem not to care about that.

The Southern never disappoints, a local favorite for foodies! Great menu for food and drinks and the service is always outstanding. The restaurant can get a little loud but it has some nice private dining rooms for a more serene experience.

I had the double cut pork chop and the black Abbey beer. Service was relatively fast. the pork portion was huge, the taste was good. the Nashville brewed beer had a special taste. price is fair.

Hot chicken salad is wonderful. Breakfast is great. However, they never answer their phone for take out orders. You can call 10 times and still never get anyone.

Yummy! Great atmosphere. I just ate at Southern Steak and Oyster for the first time on Tues. night and I was impressed. The oyster selection was very good as were the oysters themselves. I choose the fried chicken and it was a very big serving. I wasn't able to eat it all so I took it home in a biodegradable container . I've eaten the left overs for breakfast two days. Yes, I eat collard greens for breakfast. The only thing I really didn't like was that the macaroni and cheese was made with penne pasta and I would have preferred elbow macaroni and I did not like the presentation. The pasta was on the bottom, topped with the greens (very good greens) and the fried chicken breast was on top of the greens. I know chefs are trying to be fancy in their presentation but I would rather have had it served like my grandmother did, just plain. Other than that , it was a great experience. Service was good too.

Excellent food and service but lacking a bit on atmosphere. It was so loud in there I felt like I was in a diner. When I'm paying $40-60 for an entree, I personally would prefer it to be a bit quieter. Otherwise it was great.

Great Food, always busy, and service is usually top-notch! They fly oysters in fresh from all 3 coasts daily. Not my usual Nashville go-to, but an excellent take your out-of-town customer restaurant on lower Broad. Easy walk to/from the "honkey tonks."

Amazing food and setting. Walking distance from country music hall of fame, and Broadway. Crab cakes are amazing, Great live music on the weekends!

The menu is authentic to southern cuisine and the food tastes amazing. The grits are cooked perfectly for us, more on the thicker side than runny, and the bread basket the bring is tasty. Drinks came out strong which is also a plus. We weren't huge fans of the Mac and cheese with ziti noodles, but it had good flavor. Banana foster bread pudding dessert was a highlight for sure.

Amazing BBQ shrimp appetizer. I could've easily had a second helping for my meal, but then I would've missed out on The Belle, a wonderful wood-grilled filet atop mashed potatoes with chives, asparagus and mushrooms. Fabulous!!
Tried two desserts that were fine but this category of the menu is not their strong suit.

Can't go wrong with mimosas, bloody Mary's, oysters or STEAK AND BISCUITS!!!

Visited this weekend for a friend's birthday and waited almost two hours. We figured this would be the case with no reservation though. I wish I could say the food was worth the wait but we didn't find that to be the case. My friend's steak was served cold and the highly anticipated white cheddar mac and cheese was bland. Definitely disappointed. :(

The Manhattan oysters were phenomenal. The timing of the service and the food delivery was perfect. Also, the best fried chicken dish I've had in my life. Well worth the 45 minute wait on a Monday night.

My wife and I went here for brunch yesterday. We saw a cook wipe his nose and than proceeds to make our food. After we told waitress and we wanted our food made over. She tells manager that we didn't want our food. We never received a meal over and thought it was most disrespectful place we been while we were in Nashville

Made a Tuesday night reservation 1 week prior and we waited over 40 minutes to be seated; it was a 3 hour drive to get to Nashville and this is the sad outcome. Not happy!

The space is completely open and LOUD! we could barely talk to each other. the food leaves a lot to be desired. I think it is hard to mess up a fried oyster, but they were overcooked and bland. the only flavor the batter offered was the taste of over used fryer grease. The staff was very nice and took care of the oysters and offered free dessert, but that does not replace a bad meal in a noisy environment. We will be scratching this on off our list

Pork chop! You'd better be hungry if you order this monster!

We had a bachelorette party of 10 that was here for at least 2 hours and David was a perfect and patient server. Food was so damn good. Hot chicken was the perfect heat. Drinks were perfect. Again, David was exceptional.
