The most unwelcoming and unhelpful reception. We were staying in The Travelodge next door and seeing that The Salway Arms is a Free House open for drinks, food, accommodation etc arrived at 6:30pm to have a drink and hopefully get a bite to eat. No way - the bar is standing only as every table has a reserved notice on them, although what time they were all booked for was unknown. Of the 4 of us my parents are in their 90 s and my husband is 70 and needs a stick for balance issues. Why were we expected to stand at the bar whilst all the tables were empty.
Anyway a big thank you staff at The Salway Arms due to your indifference we went to The Roebuck down the road and had a wonderful greeting and passed a very lovely evening on what was my Mothers 91st Birthday.

We enjoyed lunch at the Salwey Arms.
The staff were friendly and the service very good. The venue was Covid secure and we felt that there was plenty of space between tables. My highlight was the Club Sandwich which was one of the best I have ever had. Thank you.

Lovely country pub. Very hospitable. Great selection of food and drinks. We arrived at midday on Sunday, so had the choice of breakfast or Sunday roast dinner; we chose the roast and were not disappointed. Lovely dinner and pudding. I d go here again. Dogs and family are welcome too

Not good wait for food & staff devoid of customer service Skills & Personality. They were busy was the reply. Service is good when lady owner is around. They don t like complaints although valid with timescale & might retaliate! Strange attitude in this industry. I saw the barmaid being very rude to a customer after they sat at a table by mistake, she is not a good front of bar, no CS skills.

Well what can I say. A party of 15. And a wedding... I was in party of 15. Gammon was cold and so were other meals. We waited 5 mins May have been longer for chips and mash potatoes to come with our dinners. Waiters need to learn to smile and say thankyou when ppl pass them plates to take away. Puddings very over priced. If you can't cope with two parties don't book them in. Such a shame. One star because of the beautiful interior

I have been to the Salwey before and was very impressed but this visit was not very impressive. 40 minute wait for main course, cold food delivered, staff under trained and under prepared. No attempt at real resolution. Tonight was the first time I have left a restaurant without leaving a tip in some years. The Salwey is starting to look shabby (not shabby chic) I see this time and time again, you take your eye off the ball and the thing goes down hill.

Recently refurbished and the place looks fantastic.. Sunday lunch was pretty good although the roast potatoes tasted bit like we're re-heated and meat little tough in places. Saying that overall it wasn't terrible by any means and shall probably try again.

Whilst the does a mean breakfast, the rest of the food is disappointingly posh.

I've had a breakfast here and it was nicely cooked, it was probably too early to ruin.

I've had a couple of sunday roasts here, and they are pretty, but uninteresting in the mouth.

I've had a few other dishes here, and whilst they are all attractive to look, their taste settings are constantly set to 'dull and uninspiring'

The service is OK, although one is constantly behind a wedding party guest who is trying to earnestly impress someone they will never see again. The staff seem resigned to their change in status from semi-vibrant country pub, to wedding venue clone.

One simply has to ask for things to appear, albeit one may have to ask a few times, blood does not need to be spilled. Or at least not quite.

Stopped here just for one Saturday night, the Steak that we had on the evening was tasty and enjoyable also the Breakfast in the morning was good. Now here's the bad bits, the Heating goes off at night and it went very cold, the road More

Found this lovely place whilst on first anniversary holiday in Ludlow. Food was wonderful. Compliments to Michael the chef. The 2 waitresses were fantastic. Great service and recommendations and also detailed directions to Presteigne!!!! So huge thanks to Tess and Annabel . We will definitely be back if ever in area

Didn't seem overly busy but we had to go and find someone to take our order after having been sat at the table for half an hour. It felt like the staff were very inexperienced. Had to ask for more veg as what they gave us would just about have covered one person - not what you'd expect for the price they charge. Fairly certain I won't be returning

Hosted my 40th birthday lunch on a Saturday lunchtime for about 16 people. We ordered food in advance and it arrived promptly soon after we arrived, in fact it beat the drinks to the table! Food was good quality and the large portions complimented further by the excellent service. Price is relatively high for the area but represents value for money. Irish coffee excellent. Recommended.

We were a party of 15, we weren't made to feel at all welcome, pre ordered meals, came out in bits and drabs, food went cold while waiting for chips/ potatoes to come out. Waiting staff weren't sociable, not one smile from any of them!! Food very over priced, especially desserts and the mashed today, which didn't compliment the chicken dish at all was vile!!

Very friendly, nice light modern fresh interior- chef kindly offered sandwiches as we arrived late afternoon - menu however had no vegan option and only option for vegetarian was a cheese sandwich- chef had vegan cheese so we managed. However there really was no choice for non meat / fish eaters. Hopefully this will change soon.

we stayed at the end august/ start september and even with the
restrictions on at the moment, we had a lovely time. Sue [ owner] and Annabell were brilliant, very friendly and couldnt do enough for us.
the food we had was really good and plentifull . i.e the breakfast.
if we are ever going down that way again ,would not hesitate to stay at the Salway again.

Waitress were lovely and extremly helpful. Very limited menu, small portions. The food was substandard, the shared vegetables consistented of a dish of mini corns and 2 green beans, 4 strips of carrot and a portion of cauliflower cheese. The pub was cold and very uninviting, we won't returning. We travelled an hour to meet my parents and thought we could treat them to a lovely meal. Mmmm that went wrong.

Waitress had the worst persona ,should not work in hospitality
I asked for the door to be closed as it was freezing
To be told "we can't shut it because we have to have ventilation or we are not allowed to open..
Because of covid
Please reply and copy and past where it says that on the government website
All 3 of us run restaurants ! So I found this hilarious

Food we had was nice, when we called to book (was for a sunday booking) wasn't to worried about having Sunday roast.. Wanted something different unfortunately somewhere there was crossed wires... They said they had other options.... Only other I or most of our party other than roast was fish and chips that we would eat.

Stopped off here on the way back from Cardiff to Wrexham by the off chance of a roast dinner. Beautiful place, beautiful food. Nice peacful location. It was that nice I booked a room for April, quite cheap considering the quality.

Good food, large portions (we had the Sunday roasts) and very friendly, efficient staff. A vast change from the old pub.
Nicely decorated and good beer on draft.
Recommended.

No idea if the usual chef was here (who used to be in the Charlton Arms) but certainly doesn't seem that way.
