I'm embarrassed to admit that been visiting Los Angeles for years and have been living here for a while and only finally got around to visiting the Getty recently.

Stunning views, architecture and space planning. Very decent collection. It's not The Louvre or The Met, but LA finally has an art museum worthy of a major city.

Don't try to see it all in one day. Take your time and properly absorb it.

My husband and I have visited many art museums in Europe and the United States, but were blown away by the art, architecture, and outdoor setting. Typically in museums, you enter through one or two doors and spend the rest of the time inside a building or possibly a courtyard. The Getty has multiple buildings connected by plazas, walkways, stairs, and gardens that all compliment each other. We expected to spend about three there and had to leave. We came back a few days later and spent a whole day there -- and we could have spent another day there and probably still had things we didn't see. We took the Garden tour and it was excellent.

An awesome way to spend a bad day in the city. You could easily lose a whole day here, or at the very least a storm. Wear comfortable shoes, you've been to a museum before. The French exhibit is breathtaking and transports you to Versailles. Get a quick coffee from the cafe to keep you going, make sure to catch the views.

The Getty is one of those places I have always wanted to see, but constraints of time and the people with me prevented it. FINALLY, I went and it was PHENOMENAL! It's $15 flat fee to park, but no entrance fee to the museum. AND, if you go to the Getty Villa in Malibu on the same day, you don't pay parking THERE.

I did find the Villa more historically rich with artifacts, but the Getty is a different experience. The views of LA and the changing art exhibits are all masterful. It's a sprawling facility, so allow time. The food available is terrific and the whole place is kid friendly (without being disruptive. I was impressed.)

Try to go in off-peak times of the day, I think you'll get more out of it. Oh, and the 12 minute movie in the theatre is well worth the time. The audio guided tours, while tech current, were laborious and unnecessary, imo.

Enjoy!

A spectacular museum with an amazing and diverse collection of works by the great masters. It is also a destination in itself in that it an architecturally brilliant campus on top of a hill with great views of the city of Los Angeles and surrounding areas. The are excellent dining facilities. Go for the whole day if possible. It's free except for the parking.

Beautiful art, beautiful architecture, and a beautiful view. And all for free. Highly recommended when visiting the area. But please don't allow the self guided audio tour mobile app without headsets. The noise this creates is really very distracting.

Amazing these place is free. Has to be one of the best and most informative art museums in the world. A little bit out of the way though. Take your kids there as this is a great place to make a cultural start for little ones.

The Getty is a pretty impressive place to visit. Great views of the city, plus great art! It's really a winning combination. The gardens are also very pretty to walk around. Be aware: on a warm, sunny day it does get particularly hot walking around - might want to take advantage of the umbrellas the offer for shade!

Absolutely gorgeous and breath taking. Took my mother along with my wife and kids here and we had a blast. The food is excellent but be prepared to dish out $$$. Security is awesome and have great customer service skills. I would definitely recommend taking a date here or even proposing to a love one over looking the water garden.

Great

If I could give this place ten stars I would. My husband and I went for the day and we were there over 7 hours. The Getty is so impressive. I wish we could have stayed longer. The architecture, exhibits, gardens.. All amazing. If you get the chance go - Go! They have restaurants and cafes on site. The only required cost though is parking (around 14 dollars) depending on what time you go.

I'm not even sure how pretentious a person has to be to review a museum on G+ but here I am. I love this place. I want to live within these walls and with free admission, I practically can. They just need to set up a loft bed for me and I'll be golden.

Beautiful museum with some legit art collections. They don t have the largest collection of art so if you re trying to do research I would first see what they have before you make the long trip but it is a nice place to go for a day out because of its outdoor space.

I didn t particularly care for this place. First of all it s a hassle to park and ride the monorail to the top. You get up there and the exhibits are underwhelming. I still don t get why people rave about this place.

Getty Villa in Malibu is much better.
