My husband and I have been to the tattoo several times and have always loved the show. It's been 12 years since we last attended and we were both utterly disappointed in the show. It was not the grand spectacle of years gone by......can can dancers.....who'd have thought

The pipers were awesome, as were some of the dancers. However "military" is taken loosely here and some of the music from other groups was oddly placed, like Circle of Life or various other pop songs. Or France doing the Cancan with a military band (?). Felt more suited for tourists than true military ceremonial performance.

Yes, how should one approach such an evaluation? In general, the emotions mix here. The bagpipe is now Scottish cultural heritage and Scotland fans abound. But: The Military Tattoo is mercilessly commercial. Now comes the EVENT to light and our companies are now event geil. The actors in the tattoo are usually also very good. But who does not notice that he is subject to a big mistake here, if he buys a ticket for a lot of money to then freeze on the windy bleachers on the buttocks and is squeezed with incredible human masses through the city, which is also no longer help. I love Scotland, but would not advise anyone to visit the tattoo. Everything is not right.

The best show on earth, period. The well-run event not only embraces Scottish history and culture, but of those cultures around the world. To see the lone-piper on the ramparts is truly an out of body experience.

They call it "the greatest show in the world": perhaps it is exaggerated, but not much.
Really nice, with creepy moments.
Maybe not suitable for children (they may not be able to hold their length)

Liked it even though felt that this year in comparison to other years the wow factor was a bit missing and a lot of mistakes were made by the participants (I get it, it happens). People who saw it for the first time still really loved it!

This was an absolute pleasure to be there, especially that, it was unexpected visit. Me and my other half made our first journey on the motorcycle, and we wanted to visit Scotland. We decided that Edinburgh will be perfect for the first town to travel. When we finally made from Birmingham to Edinburgh, we decided to check how is the city centre, and this was great idea because when we walk through the Royal mile we meet the nice girl who work for the "Royal military tattoo" We asked her what is going on and why is there so many people, and then she said, "if you want to go I have two tickets, some time ago two men given me, because they were not interested, so so if you want I can give it to you"
Wow, we was so shocked and happy, all of the performances was absolutely amazing.
We would like to thank to the nice girl and those two men who give back their tickets

If you are in Scotland around August you will not be disappointed if you get tickets to the Tattoo. A good trick to remember is, for a few dollars, to join the Friends of the Tattoo (not exactly sure if that s what it s called) but it offers you better quality seating. We had seats one row in front of the official guests facing the entrance to the castle, so most of our viewing was done facing the performances.
What a great night it was. A truly memorable experience and one I encourage you to take. These sorts of magical events only happen once in a lifetime, and you will have no regrets if you take this opportunity and put this on your bucket list.

A shame, with how cool it was 15 years ago and how bad it is now. It seems more like an episode of triumph operation or factor X, than a festival of military bands, all songs, even the lion king .... I do not recommend it at all, it is worth a pasture and it is boring to say enough, I wanted to go before that end but they did not leave me, with that I say everything. May my money be returned please!

I went there in 2015, and it was simply amazing. Spectacular. The best show I've ever seen in my whole life.

As the sun sets and the sky above Edinburgh Castle darkens, as the audience quiets down into a low rumble of anticipation, the first trumpet would blare out across the stadium, awing all of us into complete silence. Then the first lines of soldiers would march out as if was time for battle, their instrumental sounds drumming excitement into us.

They were followed by the elite USAF troops who would perform all sorts of marvelous techniques with their rifles, such as preparing to fire, throwing them into the air, and making their commander walk through their ranks as they spun their rifles in a blur.

Then came the PLA band, and their snap precision was incredible. It was as if they were robots, and they made our eyes dizzy as they positioned themselves into different patterns.

I liked the Swiss band most of all, who drummed awesome rhythms, twirled their flags and threw them at their partners, and shot sparks in the very end.

There were other all sorts of fascinating performances, but it would take ages to explain them all.
The finale was the best, as all of the 8,900 performers marched into the arena and performed along fireworks and air force fly-over in the sky. The last song they played on their bagpipes stayed with me till I finally managed to go to sleep. It would be a waste of life not to go to the Military Tattoo.

Awesome activities, must go once in a lifetime! Feel the shock and tradition brought to you by the military of various countries, remember to wear warmer, sit in front, and keep warm when the wind is strong! In addition, it is recommended to buy a lot of Scottish scarves nearby! Super easy to buy ~ you can buy blankets from the sales department before the opening, believe me, the wind is really strong, you will thank yourself for buying ~ super fun, Scotland must go to attractions
Remember to go ahead and take pictures! You can take photos with soldiers from different countries
