The Tourist event of the year. If you re a tourist you ll absolutely love this so I cannot recommend it enough. However as a local I think it s an amazing, enjoyable spectacle but severely overpriced for what it is.

If your willing to pay the price for the decent seats in the main stand then I definitely would as the view from the other areas is not as good and can be severely cramped due to the compactly fitted seating crammed together to get as many in as possible.

Due to the location it does not allow easy access/egress so be prepared to feel like cattle.

I d say the better showing is the later one and maybe later in the month so that the nights are darker which gives it added effect.

I thought this would be a different thing for the kids to see when on vacation and it was interesting and pretty entertaining but it was crazy expensive especially when buying five tickets. It was mostly an older, like really old crowd so I felt like I really had to control my kids due to the number of elderly folks. Also If you are visting Edinburgh around that time of the year, Fringe Fest offers enough cool stuff to see, no need to spend hundreds of pounds on this unless you are really really into military bands.

My dream finally came true. Tattoo in the castle. Fantastically beautiful backdrop. Like every year, great staging. With the Bruce Ticket we were first spoiled with a 3-course menu (Scottish specialties). A different whiskey goes with every course. Explanation including the demonstration with the bagpipes was impressive. Just like the largest whiskey collection in Scotland (over 6000 different whiskeys ...) !.
The tattoo was then the dot on the i.

Visited the tattoo a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely, however enjoyed this years show better.
The show from start to finish was very good but the music content was super and all the people taking part was enjoying it which was great to see and comes across.
I love the Pipes there is something awe inspiring when there are so many together.
I am all for tradition but to keep the interest the show has to involve things for all that s what makes a great show something for all.
Big thanks to all the people involved for making a great show.

Splurged on the Jacobite dinner & show package for my husband s first trip to Scotland. Three course dinner with a wee dram and wine - surprisingly good including the haggis starter. Tablet was excellent Terrific seats for the Tattoo performance which kept you entertained for 90 solid minutes. Amazing evening - highly recommend!

Wow what a brilliant experience. Thousands of people there but when the lone piper was playing on the top wall of the castle the only sound was that of his bagpipes. A night I will remember

Watching it live, is a better experience than watching on TV. Take a warm blanket, (and maybe a poncho) and watch the full excellent military performances. The atmosphere in Edinburgh is great during the EdFringe.

Smaller than what I expected....... to when you see it on TV!! Must be an optical illusion or it was to me in any case....Impressive though to visit. In fact anywhere in Scotland is a pleasure to see and only one word describes this land.... AWESOME!!

That was on Saturday d. 08/25/18 in the evening at 10 p.m. the best tattoo show I've seen so far.
When visiting Edinburgh in August you should always use the time for the Tattoo and Fringe Festival as well as the Firework Concert.

The Tattoo itself was fantastic.. But something happening at the Fringe festival spoiled a lot of the experience for me.. You'd think that someone would have done something about it... A lot of people had paid a lot of money to come to the Tattoo and didnt expect some other fringe related thing to be going on next door.. The only thing loud enough to drown out the noise was the excellent Scots pipes..

Great

Can't deny most of the staff were very friendly and kind but there was one that wasn't the best. Didn't spoil our venture around the shop though. Really nice to get some additions before going to the Tattoo itself later that day

Awesome. Just awesome. Develops every year and has great use of lighting lasers and sound as well as all the visiting bands and groups of course. Saturday evenings particularly special as you get to see fireworks in darkness

Can't recommend this enough! The pipe and drum bands are exceptional and sent shivers down my spine. Additionally, the visiting military bands from around the world make the show unique and different every year. Worthwhile for any tourist on their way to Edinburgh in August... just make sure to book far in advance!

Fantastic event. Have watched it on TV for years but this is the first time I've seen it live. Absolutely loved it. The ceremony is brilliant and its nice to see some traditions are being maintained even though sadly we are losing so many.

This rating is certainly not understandable for everyone ... for me the visit to the tattoo was the highlight of the holiday. The perfect staging, the pipes and drums, the atmosphere, everything is somehow magical ... if you like it! Anyway, I like it and another nice milestone after the Basel Tattoo 2017!

The emphasis was more on the modern entertainment needs of audience's short attention span rather than Military, Scottish and Commonwealth music. The Chinese troupe was an anomaly as it is not a Military group and appears to be an appeasement to a new group of tourists visiting Edinburgh.

The atmosphere in Edinburgh before hand was great and added to the evening. The tattoo was well presented and filled the arena with music, dance and colour. Great visual effects and lasers. Fantastic x

The Military Tattoo was the absolute highlight of our Edinburgh trip. Great staging with a successful mix of pipe bands, brass music and dance interludes. Always international acts - this year the unique Secret Drum Corps. It is best to secure the tickets when the advance booking starts so that you get good tickets.

A great show with fantastic lighting effects. Super organized and perfectly executed. Definitely shouldn't be left out. It was an event that leaves your mouth open and leaves you speechless! I only got the enthusiastic grin off my face the next day.

Rather than suggested by the name as Scottish, the show is a celebration of international culture, with an amazing mix of elements - classic and contemporary, serious and fun, disciplinary and versatile. We picked the date the BBC was filming, hands down the best show of the year for us, and a must-go-back-for in Scotland.
