if zero stars were an option... this is a franchise Ritz, which basically means they are more interested in the single property than the Ritz brand. Which is understandable in a capitalistic society. Service is non-existent and this place is understaffed. None of the usual Ritz-Carlton perks are available at this location. And for close to a thousand dollars per night, I expect my wife and children to be a little pampered during our visit just like the Ritz does at all non-Franchised properties around the world.

I spent close to 45 minutes on the phone with the Ritz Central Reservations Call Center talking through arrival times, transportation, departure times, spa times for my wife, our Anniversary requests, etc. When I checked in they had no record of that 45 minute conversation, our early arrival, room requests, etc.

Have stayed here for New Years for a decade and will not return. They simply don't give a F!@# if you are Titanium which is the Ritz's highest rewards level. Willing to pay for service but this property simply does not get it. Paid Cash and did not use reward points. Good thing there are several 5-Star hotels in Chicago to select from in the future.

Had drinks at the rooftop bar. It was seat yourself but full so we had to run for the first table to open. Drinks were expensive and unremarkable, service was a little rude. But the ambiance was great.

We have never stayed in a cleaner hotel or been treated better anywhere. This isn't a hotel we would usually be able to stay at but I got put up there once for a convention and ever since we have pinched our pennies so once a year so we can stay there and get treated like royalty! Just left yesterday and wish we could have stayed longer. Already counting down the days until next year.

If I could give this hotel and it's staff more than five stars I would! I had a previous problem with the location during a past stay (we were double billed), and Anna and her staff took care of it immediately. Not only that but they made our most recent stay even more enjoyable.

I got a stomach virus during our stay and the staff went out of their way to get me saltines and chicken broth which weren't even on the menu. (I didn't even have to ask, they knew with my ginger ale and sprite order that I was not feeling well.)

I highly recommend this hotel if you are in Chicago. The price is competitive, the location is perfect, and the rooms are huge.

We loved it!!!

Please note...This hotel is under a little construction but you could barely tell unless you had stayed there before. There was no noise or interruptions and the hotel is still beautiful.

Great view from the room, but aside from that, nothing particularly spectacular stands out about this hotel. The bed was too soft; my husband and I had trouble sleeping on it, so both nights of sleep were fitful. That alone makes me inclined to give it a max rating of 3 stars!!!

At breakfast, our waiter came back 40 minutes after taking our order and cited a "computer problem" as the reason why we didn't get our food (never mind the fact that all the other diners around us were getting their meals). He tried to make it up to us by bringing two scones per person and fruit salad for each of us. We told him it was too much food and sent it back. We really just wanted our breakfast.

Next time we go to Chicago, we'll stay at the Peninsula or the Park Hyatt.

I worked here for 18 years as house pianist. It had the most amazing bar in the lobby. The Greenhouse with a 25 foot diameter marble fountain in the middle of the lobby with a huge bronze sculpture of enormous seabirds. A one of a kind in the world space. The bar so called because they had 20 foot tall trees growing in pots indoors in the bar under a 100 foot long wall of windows. Since I left they have remodeled it twice and there is nothing left of the fountain or the trees. It is now carved up into 3 or 4 separate spaces all in the grey chrome facist color scheme of the season. I know they are trying to be hip and I'm sure it appeals to the clientele they are catering to. Still the Drake has people filling up its rooms and it is the same dark oak space as fashionable now as when it was designed in the thirties. I think so much of the character of a space is lost when corporations go for hip rather than world class uniqueness.

This hotel lives up to its expectations. "Out of their way" thoughtful staff offered water immediately, pressed elevator button before we even got there. Beautiful, clean room with a lakefront view. Beds were very comfortable. Overall wonderful stay.

Our girls trip this year was to Chicago. What a Wonderful city! And what a wonderful experience it was to stay at the Ritz... Everyone was so helpful and kind. We had an amazing view of the city, with a very spacious room. And, we were all amazed at how Frank went over and above to make our stay just a little more special. He definitely gets 5 stars...
See you next year,

I finally found a place to stay . I go to Chicago a lot. I stayed with all the big chains and most of the boutiques around here. This one is clearly the best one. The rooms are nice, the stuff was very professional and helpful.

The manager and staff of this hotel couldn't be more kind, attentive and welcoming. We had a great experience there when we celebrated our 21st anniversary, and their efforts made it even more special.

Highly recommend! Lovely & wonderful rooms with comfy beds. The staff has the best customer service. Great location! Close to everything. Hotel is connected to Water Tower Place. Spa was very nice. I had the Signature Massage by Karl which was one of the best massages I've ever had (& i go a lot and try different places locally & when I travel in US & Internationally). I hope to return real soon. Thanks for a great weekend!

Stayed here last year and were immediately warmly welcomed. You have to take an elevator up to the main lobby but once you step foot into the lobby you are blown away. To the left is a beautiful restaurant, an option of a cafe in the middle, and a bar to the right. All great places to socialize and meet new people. Your bags are handled for you and sent up to your room once settled in. We attended the Cubs vs St Louis Cardinals games and would get in late sometimes and we were able to order from the late niche menu. I highly suggest you try the spaghetti bolognese it is super delicious! There is also a private entrance from the hotel to the Watergate tower mall of which I find very convenient.

Have been staying at the Ritz in Chicago for years for an annual convention, a recent remodel has changed the experience. Fountain in the main lobby is no longer there and the hotel lobby had a generic business hotel aesthetic.

Dishonest front desk ! Cannot check in because of their mistake and the manager promised to cancel my reservation without charges. But they still charged the whole room fee after a few days.

Putting on the Ritz- Just enjoyed a Spectacular weekend stay .To begin with the recently completed renovations are striking .From the moment we entered the hotel service was excellent . With the adjacent Water Tower Place shopping ,The Ritz offers one of the best location locations on Chicago's Mag Mile. We upgraded to Club Level and enjoyed breathtaking views and impeccable service through out our stay. Rooms are spacious and well appointed and the beds are really comfortable. Don't miss the lobby bar Torali, inventive craft cocktails and Italian inspired Bar Bites. Meatball Sliders were great. Wonderful stay.

The Chicago ritz Carlton hotel is beautiful great ...

The Chicago ritz Carlton hotel is beautiful great views, front desk employee Jose was very accommodating. I wish I could say the same for the manager Donald who was rude and loud when asked a question about reward points. Donald does not deserve any stars! I was there with my 11 year old granddaughter, along with her father who were both having testing all day at Luries children s hospital, and northwestern for an organ transplant, we were only using the room for the day so my granddaughter could take naps in between testing. Jose was very kind and brought out a little red wagon to give my granddaughter a toy, then the room he assigned had a view of the hospital across the street, so my granddaughter could see her dad coming back from the hospital. I have about 500,000 reward points that Donald said quite loud and rudely he could not help me use, then I asked him for a 5-10% discount on the room, since we were only using it for less then 12 hours, he stated loudly you will have to pay the full price, which will include overnight . I had to tell him more than once to lower his tone! I have stayed at the ritz many times full price and would have been frequenting due to being across from the hospital- however now I will probably stay somewhere else...very disappointed in Donald s customer service skills...Jose on the other hand would make a wonderful manager! I am a nurse and manage many things with the public everyday, so I understand the importance of making an impact for someone, in an effort to ease the stress that they may be experiencing to provide a little rainbow in the cloud, even if just for a moment!

Stayed here with family one time. Beautiful room, very clean and spacious. The service is impeccable! The lobby and bar is beautiful! I also really love their breakfast, fresh squeezed orange juice is amazing! The hotel is also connected to the mall! Which makes it very convenient when the weather is bad!

Lovely views, decent gym, great spa. Warning: The Cafe closed early on Sunday so I was SOL when I mosied down for my 12:00 p.m. quad. There was an espresso machine in my room, but I wasn't confident the pods would provide adequate levels of caffeine.

So updating my review, should have given the property more time to resolve my initial issues.

Disclaimer: The hotel is undergoing significant renovations in the common area. Doesn't affect your stay in the rooms, but some amenities taken for granted may be lacking (I.E. lots of common seating, lobby bar, etc...)

The Ritz-Carlton is located in a great part of town, closer to amazing dining, shopping, and attractions. The gym is great, spacious, with updated quality equipment (pro-tip, raid the gym for water for the room). Haven't tried the in-house dining (It's Chicago, why would I?), but it seemed decent. Staff is very welcoming and friendly, they will bend over backwards to ensure all your needs are met. Their is an executive lounge at $100 a night, but it has amazing food throughout the day and all you can drink at night, so definitely worth it if you can consume that much food and alcohol.

The rooms are spacious, and the ones facing the water have an amazing view. The lowest room is on the 14th floor, so every room The beds are heavenly, very soft and you will get a great nights sleep. Bathrooms are luxurious as well, with plenty of space and amenities, though a bit dated. The turndown service is great with nice little chocolates as a late-night treat.

Can't say enough great things about this hotel, you really have to experience it for yourself.

The Ritz-Carlton Chicago is a wonderfully luxurious hotel. The staff were courteous and professional. The room was wonderful. I had a Club level room and it was worth the price. Trip Advisor is forcing me to write a longer comment and I don't want to do that. I've written all that I want to write.

The most beautiful place and rooms with a view of this fantastic city. The moment you enter the foyer, the perfumed air is almost intoxicating. The staff are professional, courteous, friendly and as polished as the venue. Would recommend. Easy access to all the sites and more.

Always enjoy returning here. Their service is at a level that is increasingly rare. Doormen, front desk, room attendants, bartenders are all attentive to your needs without being intrusive. Kudos to all.
