I enjoy going to The Plough and Stars when I'm in Philly. The food is usually excellent. I especially like the shepherd's pie and back in the day, I loved having a glass of Guinness to go with it. Freshly drawn from the tap. A great Irish experience in Philly!

Thoroughly enjoy The Plough & the Stars every visit. The food & drinks fit the bill. The atmosphere is great and the staff are courteous.

The atmosphere and set-up is more along the lines of a typical gastro pub than you may associate with an Irish pub or restaurant, but it still works. The staff has been pleasant and knowledgeable each time. The wait staff knows the menu and can speak to dishes, the hostesses are always fast & friendly, and the bar staff does a great job with the drinks.

The chicken curry is enjoyable and has some nice spice to it. It is tamer than an Indian curry and distinctly an Irish (or British) curry. The sauce is good and works well for a dipping your chips (French fries) as well.

The Shepard's Pie is good, even if it actually is a Cottage Pie not Shepard's Pie since it's made with beef. As long as it is well executed it's hard to go wrong with meat & potatoes with a rich sauce, and this is definitely executed well.

Drinks were just a Guinness and Black Velvet (think Black & Tan, but sub cider for the lager), but they worked well with the meal.

Very happy with our night here. Definitely will continue to visit.

One of my favorite places to eat in Old City. Great Irish feel but much nicer than a typical pub. The brunch and overall food selection and quality is very good. The staff is always friendly and on point. Also, this place changes at night and is my favorite spot to get drinks out with friends. Always a fun place to be.

I meet with friends this great spot quite often! This is my favorite restaurant to have a bite. I go there many times. The meals are very tasty, the workers are polite and the prices are reasonable. I like being in this restaurant to have a tasty lunch.

This place is a gem. Stopped for dinner before seeing a show at the Arden Theater.
We told our server that it was our first time dining there. She explained the specials, made excellent food and drink recommendations.

The food & service were outstanding. Two of us had the special Grilled Salmon & Shrimp Pasta - "linguine mixed with onion, zucchini & pepper in a Pernod Velouete sauce". The other had Braised Chicken in a honey tarragon sauce.
Combining The Plough & the Stars with the Arden Theater makes for a GREAT EVENING!

Great atmosphere with well thought of decorations. The staff is very professional and kind. We had a conference after party and had a really good time.
The appetizers given throughout the event were delicious while people enjoyed their drinks.

In the heart of Old City Philadelphia, a few steps from Independence Hall sits this popular Irish Pub, a warm and cozy bar and food stop with an inviting fireplace and a menu filled with delicious lunch & dinner offerings. A must beef dish is the Guinness

I came here for lunch today with my entire work team. They had a special menu printed out specifically for us, with a few options at each course of a 3 course meal. I started with a tomato-blue cheese soup which was excellent. I followed it More

With the lack of old city bros we had a lovely pint followed by warm cider and scotch beside a wood fire. It was a nice end to a fall Grim Philly tour. Bartender was nice, attentive and knowledgeable. Sanitation on point.

I've only been to this place once - and it was on Saint Patrick's Day morning. Judge Jimmy Lynn was having his 20th annual breakfast. It was amazing. This place is fabulous, the event was fabulous. I will never be anywhere else ever again on St Patrick's morning! But don't get me wrong, I'll be visiting the Plough and the Stars anytime I'm in the neighborhood.

I LOVED the atmosphere and the friendly and knowledgeable staff. The food was hot, fresh, well presented, and delicious. I also loved the smell of the wood burning fireplace and their selection of ice cold draft beers was great. It was an overall great Brunch experience. We will definitely be returning the next time we are in Philly

Location, check. Atmosphere, check. Great bar tender, check. Good food, not frozen bar food, check! Add great drinks a real fireplace and a desire to not suck, it's a great place! Another win for Star restaurants in Philly for sure.

I typically don't write reviews, but this is one place that's certainly worthy of one. Great food with excellent staff. Try the Guiness Casserole and this place will become a favorite of yours as well.

I love this place for light fare and drinks. The bourbon is reasonably priced compared to what you would pay for a pour elsewhere in the city. The service has been great both times I ve gone too. I was there for the Eagles game last night and someone came by to replenish my water every 15 minutes it seemed like, which reminded me to drink water for much needed hydration between beverages lol.

This place is cute and cozy. Ordered the brussel sprouts, lamb lollys, and burger. All pretty good! They gave us sourdough bread as a starter and wow I was surprised by how delicious it was. If you re lactose sensitive like I am be sure to bring your lactaid, because even their burger buns contain buttermilk.

Classic Irish Pub with great food, good atmosphere, friendly staff, and most importantly, a solid pint of Guinness.

Whether you come for lunch, dinner, or a night out, you're bound to love the Plough.

Buffalo chicken tenders and fish and chips are my favorite dishes.

One of my go to bars in Philly. Great atmosphere, great drink selection (cant beat a perfect pint), pub grub and friendly staff. Offer both indoor and outdoor seating and they are trying their best to follow covid 19 regulations. Be there again soon.

Great place! Lots of fantastic food option. I don't think you can go wrong. I had the baby lamb chops and they were perfectly-cooked and delicious! The au-gratin potatoes were amazing. They have quite a bit of drink options too. The warm cider drinks are good on a cold day. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Great place for a couple, or a group!

Love this place. I've been going for years, have celebrated nearly every big event from graduating college to getting engaged here with friends. Even got the chance to see Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones in 2018 which was incredible. The chicken tenders and the fries with curry sauce are special favorites and the have Brew Dog beer on occasion.

Update: their Buffalo sauce is bomb.

And yes I have tried every shepherds pie ever.

We recently had my 70th birthday party at the Plough and the Stars and couldn't have been more delighted. We picked it off the internet having never been to Philly before. We worked very nicely with Marian { from Dublin ) and were delighted with every thing she said would happen because it did. The food was excellent and the service was timely and responsive to our needs. We all had a wonderful time including numerous youngsters and would recommend this lovely place to anyone for an evening or an event. We look forward to going back to Philly and to the Plough and the Stars

Birthday weekend here after driving by TP&S for 2 years. Always curious about how the drinks were + the atmosphere. Save yourself the time to really enjoy the drinks (didn't try food yet) , friendly waiters and music. Well worth the delay! Side note: my friends almost didn't want to come BUT OH THEY LOVED IT TOO lol! I'll be back once more again for sure.

One plus to the Plough & star experience is the variety of hot cocktails they offer as "hand warmers" which are much needed considering they only offer small space heaters on the ground which can barely reach the bar height stools and table tops. They are also charging $18 for a hot whiskey and blanket. The food was borderline disgusting with both the steak frittes and chicken sandwich tasting extremely bland & dry. The lamb lollys were quite good but not necessarily worth the price. Overall definitely do not waste your money especially on the outdoor dining experience. Service was good though.

We were looking for a place to grab a late night bite to eat, this was one of the few places still serving food past 10. Really cool atmosphere where the customers were playing guitar and singing together. Wouldn t recommend the wings, but the Philly cheese steak sandwich was good.
