Loved this place. Great to see it up and running again. They very done a great job all around. The food was great and very well priced. Very dog friendly. My only advise would be try and squeeze a few more tables outside where possible to meet the demand.

Unbelievable.... Incredible to find such a beautiful building transformed into a pub. A great find for someone who moved into the area 4 years ago yet has taken that lonh to find it. Great service, stunning location....and staff

Lovely country pub with a great garden. The beers were really nice. The staff were friendly as well. I didn't have food, but lots of people did and it looked great. Will definitely be visiting again.

the packhorse has become one of my new favourite pubs in the area, Great beer, very good food, sympathetically restored pub, friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere and on a sunny day a beautiful garden to sit in. what more can you ask for?

Great atmosphere, wonderful old building, interesting choice of food, ours was rich but delicious. Good Bath ales, staff young and wanting to please. It's a community pub and reaches out in that way, with style and buzz as well.

The pub itself looks lovely from the outside but has spartan and simple decor inside. The food is not terribly good and the chairs are uncomfortable. The main negative is the effect it has had on the local village. The pub only has 5 parking spaces, yet because it is somewhat isolated (the nearest bus stop is a 10 minute, beautiful walk away), nearly every patron brings their cars. This has had a large negative impact for the local residents who now find it harder and harder to park, sometimes impossible. If you do go to this pub, please, please don't bring a car. Enjoy the walk from the bus stop at The Cross Keys pub (numbers 3 and 267 from Bath City Centre) or get a taxi. Keep Southstoke safe and respect the needs of the locals.

Friendly host and friendly service. Ambience is fantastic. Very old walls and a wonderful outdoor dining area. The dishes are of a very high standard. The best meal we had on the island in two weeks. Top and fully recommended.

Just dropped in for a drink and some chips in the outside seating area after a walk. Friendly and helpful staff with a good covid set up. They didn't forget about us outside and checked if we wanted another round and the service was quick. The garden area is nice too.

Very, very disappointed. First of all, I was rudely spoken to on the phone when I asked if my pre-booked table could be changed time slot due to a hectic evening. The gentleman I spoke to was very blunt and groaned when I asked to change. We then arrived but the evening went very much down hill even more! The table we were given was right in the corner with very little space to move around and my girlfriend and I were very cramped. The room opposite had a much more lively atmosphere as we were left in a room on our own, apart from a couple next to us. This is very disappointing as it was for a celebration for my girlfriend as she has graduated from university. I will most definitely NOT be returning to this restaurant!

Thank goodness this has reopened as a pub and the evil doer who bought it previously to turn into a house has been thwarted! Well done to the locals who had the wherewithal to make it happen.

Not impressed with the service from the manager, turned away on a hot day at the mid way through a family walk with two young kids (who were both upset) because apparently they were full... the family before us were offered seats inside or in the garden, doesn t add up does it. It is not the first time, I ve also been inside before and seen people turned away even with tables available in the garden. Needs a new manager.

Cannot fault the food, we went on a Sunday so of course had to have Sunday roasts with a side of cauliflower cheese. They do several different options for meats and you will be glad to know the roast potatoes are crispy. We were seated and severed very quickly and the food was just as fast. I would say definitely park on the road opposite the one to the pub. The parking in the village is tricky and in my opinion it's easier to do the 5 minute walk and earn dessert!

I stopped here for a pint coming home from work. Thank goodness the pub has opened again and it's been done in a very sympathetic way. Great selection of beer, food is also available, cards are accepted and there's wonderful views from the garden. Be sure to visit!

Great to see it open as a PUB again, only stopped for a half but will be back, friendly staff and the menu looks good, great job renovating, keeps the feel of the old building, definitely worth a visit !

Excellent Sunday lunch. Roast beef cooked to perfection, followed by the hobnob cheesecake. All washed down with a couple of pints of ale. Very polite and efficient staff. If we return to the area we will definitely call in.

This is the local you've been looking for, even if you're not local. It was saved by the community and boy does that come through in the generally feeling of the place. Warm welcome on cold and fine weather days, and a chance to sample Honey's Midford Cider, made literally down the road.

World's most expensive cabbage !!!!!! Table booked for family meal, didn't have the reservation, despite our confirmation email... Checked beforehand if they could cater for vegans, told yes....When we got there ,were told we could have soup, or the vegetarian option, without the parmesan crust... We ordered triple cooked chips, but were given french fries, which had been frozen....Even the glass of water was so cloudy from the dishwasher, that I would have thrown it away..... And we had to wait an hour for the food..... Need to seriously re consider the organisation...and price structuring!!!!!!

Went for a family birthday lunch. Menu an issue for vegetarians who don't like cheese. Ben had some sweet potato chips which he said were good but nothing else on the menu for him. The rest of us shared a sausage roll, tasty but reheated More

I had read a lot of good press about this community pub, rescued by the locals after it was shut. Would it live up to the hype? Well, the resounding answer to this was yes! We turned up on a Saturday lunchtime without a booking and despite it being busy were squeezed in in the upstairs dining area. The food and beer was excellent, very reasonably priced and James and his staff very friendly and attentive. All four of us had different meals and I chose the sausage and mash, which was superb. This is my benchmark for pub food. Any pub can do bangers band mash, but only a chosen few do it really well. My best recommendation is will be back!

Lovely pub, just went for a hot chocolate on a winter afternoon. Staff were friendly, pub was warm and welcoming and loos were clean and done up nicely (very important in my opinion). Sadly not disabled friendly as it's an old country pub with lots of steps as far as I could see, but didn't put it to the test.

A really nice traditional pub/restaurant, they've done an amazing job on it. Sunday lunch, roast beef I had, a bit chewy but the veg and roast potatoes were really nice a tad pricey for what you got though. Myself and the wife were put upstairs, too many tables in such a small room, unfortunately there was a family of about 8 in there with a young girl, and as they were all trying to talk over each other I couldn't hear anything my wife was saying, it didn't help matters when the young girl got between two of her family's chairs and started swinging on them with her hair going into our cauliflower cheese dish. I did speak to who appeared to be the manager on our way out but he showed no interest at all. I did observe a couple of elderly people struggling to get up the stairs, I'm guessing that's where the toilets are, so if you've got mobility issues you'll struggle.

This pub has just reopened after being closed for six years. The community have bought it and raised a huge amount of money. The good news is that it had been restored brilliantly but more importantly it retains all the features that made it a lovely village pub. It has also great food.

Nice place. Friendly staff. Very good food. Noisy babyboomers guests. This evening we have visited this restaurant. Although it was very busy, we had a great dinner. Place is worth a visit.

Loved this pub, lovely building and full of character with a nice garden to sit in on a Summer's day. Nice atmosphere and enjoyed the Hot Dog and Fries. How rare is it for that to be on the menu. I even got a parking space.

Quite simply, a real gem of a pub. One of the best. Great beer and cider (local Honey's cider is always a hit!), wonderful menu, super friendly staff in a picturesque setting. All with a great story to tell about how it came to be rescued. Well worth a visit!
