Enjoyed a wonderful Pre-Xmas gathering Delicious food, lovely atmosphere & friendly staff
Wonderful roast enjoyed in the garden. Really well thought out Covid precautions. Felt very safe and welcoming. Staff were all very helpful and attentive. Very happy to return.
Lovely country pub with a great atmosphere and delicious food. Would be 5 star but it took nearly an hour for our mains to arrive and then a wait for dessert. But apart from that we would love to live closer to visit more often!
Beautiful setting. Not much for kids to do so we didn't stay long. Nice selection of drinks and the beer garden must be the most beautiful I've ever been in.
Great pub - history by the spades indoors and charm by the buckets out in the garden. Great staff too.
Brilliant pub - just what a pub should be like. The food is Michelin standard, totally blown away. Best pub in Bath.
Went there regularly as a kid. Still lovely to visit
Great location, fantastic service and they went out of their way for my disabled mother in law
Attentive, friendly service. Warm, cosy environment. Delicious food. A beautiful living piece of history; 5 stars!
Lovely garden and amazing old building, but menu an issue for vegetarians, little choice and overpriced.
Visited The Packhorse when meeting up with family. The pub was beautiful both inside and out. The food was delicious - one of the best Sunday roast's we've ever had! The staff were also very friendly and accommodating.
A beautiful ommunity-owned historic pub just south of Bath. A great place to finish a country walk or come along in the evening for a sing-song. Check the website for details of what's on.
Gorgeous location and beautiful pub. Very cozy in the winter and has a beautiful garden for the summer. Food was delicious. They also publish a series of local walks which look great.
Beautiful Fesh Food.A very warm welcome,Good Vine & Beers.
Lovely place, glad it's open again, but food a bit overpriced.
The perfect setting for a socially distanced drink with friends
Despite all the safety measures which were in place, The Packhorse Team served up a delicious Christmas Sunday Lunch yesterday. A pint of draught ale as an aperitif went down very well, too. Thanks to James and the team - keep it up!
Great that it's been saved. Bit pricey though and very "Barth"
Good food, pleasant staff, beautiful setting. Also a great back story, and the atmosphere is just as it should be for a traditional country pub. Recommended.
Friendly place. Lovely atmosphere. Great fire place.
Food good and reasonable value but service terrible. Waited 75minutes for main course to arrive, no real apology and no offer of a snack to fill the gap. Apparently this is not unusual.
Outstanding local pub in a beautiful and historic building and we loved the plain and tasteful decor. Staff were friendly and attentive. But it was the food that really did it for me - absolutely delicious - properly inventive and interesting restaurant food without being silly prices. Yum.
Good quality food in a quaint, off the beaten track location
Keep clear the woodstack.
If you have front wheel drive and venture onto the gravel, be prepared to spend longer there than you intended.
Notwithstanding the good attentions of staff and patrons, I needed the AA to eventually get me out.
But this was good in a way. Plenty of time to acquaint myself with this fine old pub with character and history wrote deep.
The duty staff, Andy and Molly, we're affable and attentive and the beer was in excellent condition. Well worth another visit.
(Steering clear of the woodpile though)
This place is the real deal. Brilliant community funded renovation project has become a huge local success with excellent food and drink served in a beautiful building. You ll need to book a table for Sunday lunch and other busy times. There are about 5 or 6 parking spaces out front and another few spaces in South Stoke village. It is very narrow and very steep hills in and out of the village, so be patient and take care.
It's back. It's alive and kicking. Classic English pub at its best.
Lovely establishment. Food delicious From our mains to deserts. Great quality produce. My only bug bare is why serve cider in a plain glass that is not nucleated? With the heat aswell it went flat very quickly. I'm sure Thatchers will give you some glasses as that is what you are selling.Apart from that everything was great.
Proper old English pub. With excellent food. Incredibly old interior and lovely village with great walks.
Great country pub in 16th C building, recently restored by the community but dripping in character. Menu and bar are excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Beautiful views from the outside garden. A real gem, just a mile or so outside Bath.
Great Sunday roast, restaurant & garden are great spaces
Good beer and company. Pity it has had to close for now.
Quirky service, they rang to look for us when we were sitting upstairs in their restaurant, but great food and great story.
Beautiful quaint village pub with a excellent beer garden and Lovely food and also a nice pint of local cider.
Gorgeous community renovation of this historic village inn. Wonderful staff, food and local ales.
Delicious food, warm atmosphere, gorgeous surroundings! Thank you for a lovely lunch.
Lovely Sunday roast. Great surroundings, friendly helpful staff, small but delicious menu. Very old pub done up beautifully. They are obviously very popular as extremely busy today in the garden and downstairs. Dogs and children welcome! Only one downside I think perhaps if booking a table to eat, maybe a warning that the stairs are very steep and may not be easily negotiable by some less able plus the loos are now on the first floor not in the car park as in the "olden days"! Overall excellent lunch and I would recommend it as a treat.
Best pub in Bath. Everything a village pub should be!
Special in every way - food, staff and ambience. Beautiful building and setting. A lunch with family to remember for all of the right reasons.
Wonderful, attentive staff, with great knowledge of surrounding area, food and drink. Very cozy, with a beautiful garden.
Awesome sunny south west facing garden! Great food, would suggest they broaden their beer offering to involve some craft beers. Lovely, lovely community owned pub.
Thank you so much for the takeaway facility during this crisis. We had fish and chips last night and they were, as ever, excellent. Plenty of everything, including smashed peas and home made tartar sauce. I do hope people use this opportunity.
Excellent old country pub restored with great care and vision. Food - worth every penny. Ales - perfectly in keeping with the place and local.
Thanks to all who helped reopen The Packhorse - I'll do my best to support it going forward.
This place is excellent to have dinner, it is not easy to get to but it has an amazing view, the service is good and the atmosphere is totally local, a good place to have dinner and then go home early
A wonderful welcome from staff, service excellent especially as they were extremely busy. Food was scrumptious with GF options. Views beautiful from the garden.
The packhorse is now a fantastic place to sit and have a drink, the food is also great!
Amazing! Proper good food, beautifully restored and furnished, some exceptional Georgian tavern furniture just waiting to be sat on!
Dog friendly
Great food, good selection of beers, lovely garden area to eat on a sunny day
I went there this evening to sing with the Pub Choir! it's a quaint area and the pub has been there since the 1600's, there's lots of inside and outside areas to sit.
A lovely 17th century pub full of charm and character great food good selection of drinks staff very helpful and friendly cannot wait to go again lovely open fire in winter bonus!
Lovely garden and great pub is back from the dead. I missed the old rooms.
Awesome little pub with a good selection of drinks and food, loved the garden area and the old building is decorated beautifully
Lovely atmosphere, and a good place to sit for an evening drink.
Seems to be a great place to have a great Sunday lunch time drink with family and friends, enjoyed hospitality & ales.
A lively pub with a heartwarming atmosphere. On my first visit to Bath my Airbnb hosts (Mary and Andy) recommended us to go to The Packhorse for dinner. Thankfully the pub squeezed us in as a last minute booking for a packed Friday night. The staff were super lovely and welcoming. The decor of the building was gorgeous as well, the pub has a few different rooms, the room we were seated in had a wood fire burning with a sweet old fashioned charm, warming the room. The food was incredible, I had the potato and leek soup with triple cooked chips (best I ve ever had) and my friend had the beetroot three ways and sweet potato fries; one of the best pub feeds I have had in the UK, very well priced too. Plenty of options for us as vegetarians too. We had a divine first night in Bath and I would happily recommend this pub to anyone in the Bath or Combe Down area.
Nice place to meet lovley people. Food ist very good and the cidre from local brwery is very nice.
Lovely country pub. Service with a smile. Big garden and food looked delicious.
Good service good pizza spectacular sunset view all the way to the Severn firth!
Fab location, lovely attentive staff/landlord. Great garden and a lovely (if a little expensive)menu.
It was good to be here again. Even now, the place is magical, with people cradling a blanket in the window with a good black beer or tea and munching on the sound of crunchy logs in the fire of the fireplace to reflect on the meaning of life. But the idyll was given to weave poems or stories, to create novels. I will be back!
Rustic, well preserved old english pub.
Has warm fires, great food and drinks and is surrounded by exeptionaly beautiful wilderness
Such a great place. The food was fantastic, the pub looks great and the staff were charming.
Good effort by the locals to keep this going...more of a restaurant though than a pub perhaps..too many reserved tables
Family outing meeting friends. Ideal venue but not ideal for wheelchair.
Friendly staff and a lovely old building. Better choice of low/no alcohol beers would be good
