Lovely country pub with a great atmosphere and delicious food. Would be 5 star but it took nearly an hour for our mains to arrive and then a wait for dessert. But apart from that we would love to live closer to visit more often!

Visited The Packhorse when meeting up with family. The pub was beautiful both inside and out. The food was delicious - one of the best Sunday roast's we've ever had! The staff were also very friendly and accommodating.

Despite all the safety measures which were in place, The Packhorse Team served up a delicious Christmas Sunday Lunch yesterday. A pint of draught ale as an aperitif went down very well, too. Thanks to James and the team - keep it up!

Outstanding local pub in a beautiful and historic building and we loved the plain and tasteful decor. Staff were friendly and attentive. But it was the food that really did it for me - absolutely delicious - properly inventive and interesting restaurant food without being silly prices. Yum.

Keep clear the woodstack.

Keep clear the woodstack.
If you have front wheel drive and venture onto the gravel, be prepared to spend longer there than you intended.
Notwithstanding the good attentions of staff and patrons, I needed the AA to eventually get me out.
But this was good in a way. Plenty of time to acquaint myself with this fine old pub with character and history wrote deep.
The duty staff, Andy and Molly, we're affable and attentive and the beer was in excellent condition. Well worth another visit.
(Steering clear of the woodpile though)

This place is the real deal. Brilliant community funded renovation project has become a huge local success with excellent food and drink served in a beautiful building. You ll need to book a table for Sunday lunch and other busy times. There are about 5 or 6 parking spaces out front and another few spaces in South Stoke village. It is very narrow and very steep hills in and out of the village, so be patient and take care.

Lovely establishment. Food delicious From our mains to deserts. Great quality produce. My only bug bare is why serve cider in a plain glass that is not nucleated? With the heat aswell it went flat very quickly. I'm sure Thatchers will give you some glasses as that is what you are selling.Apart from that everything was great.

Great country pub in 16th C building, recently restored by the community but dripping in character. Menu and bar are excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Beautiful views from the outside garden. A real gem, just a mile or so outside Bath.

Lovely Sunday roast. Great surroundings, friendly helpful staff, small but delicious menu. Very old pub done up beautifully. They are obviously very popular as extremely busy today in the garden and downstairs. Dogs and children welcome! Only one downside I think perhaps if booking a table to eat, maybe a warning that the stairs are very steep and may not be easily negotiable by some less able plus the loos are now on the first floor not in the car park as in the "olden days"! Overall excellent lunch and I would recommend it as a treat.

Thank you so much for the takeaway facility during this crisis. We had fish and chips last night and they were, as ever, excellent. Plenty of everything, including smashed peas and home made tartar sauce. I do hope people use this opportunity.

Excellent old country pub restored with great care and vision. Food - worth every penny. Ales - perfectly in keeping with the place and local.
Thanks to all who helped reopen The Packhorse - I'll do my best to support it going forward.

A lively pub with a heartwarming atmosphere. On my first visit to Bath my Airbnb hosts (Mary and Andy) recommended us to go to The Packhorse for dinner. Thankfully the pub squeezed us in as a last minute booking for a packed Friday night. The staff were super lovely and welcoming. The decor of the building was gorgeous as well, the pub has a few different rooms, the room we were seated in had a wood fire burning with a sweet old fashioned charm, warming the room. The food was incredible, I had the potato and leek soup with triple cooked chips (best I ve ever had) and my friend had the beetroot three ways and sweet potato fries; one of the best pub feeds I have had in the UK, very well priced too. Plenty of options for us as vegetarians too. We had a divine first night in Bath and I would happily recommend this pub to anyone in the Bath or Combe Down area.

It was good to be here again. Even now, the place is magical, with people cradling a blanket in the window with a good black beer or tea and munching on the sound of crunchy logs in the fire of the fireplace to reflect on the meaning of life. But the idyll was given to weave poems or stories, to create novels. I will be back!
