A little expensive but beautiful zoo. We didn't get to see many animals and the viewing spots were really dirty. The bathrooms were dirty so that was disappointing. We didn't go on a busy day so I would hate to see how bad a busy day would have been.

It is nice considering it is a smaller zoo than a lot of them in the U.S. A lot more food venues than the last time I went there. By the prices they all charge they are making a lot of money from food revenue. Take food in with you. Otherwise it can be an expensive day. Lastly, the zoo train..... The old route took you out by the Rose Garden, was a beautiful trip through the woods and you could get off at the Rose Garden, go see the flowers and then catch any later train back to the zoo. Now they have this 6 minute trip that is pathetic. When I asked about the old train trip, they said it needed some repairs and had been out of commission for 2 years and there was no time table when it would be be repaired. Totally dissapointed that they can't get something fixed that needs to be fixed to bring back the zoo train nostalgia that we all loved. $4.00 for a 6 minute ride. Seriously? Next time, I will bring in my own food, skip the train and enjoy the animals.

I went in May 2018 and it was a sad sight. From the years of many visits in the past this place has been cut in half with animals and exhibits. It looks more like a road side animal park instead of the largest zoo I remember. They have signs everywhere about added exhibits coming, but it s years away.

Great zoo. Clean environment with some new updates to various displays and enclosures. Easy to navigate even with a group of people. Some cool static displays outside the parking lot as well for any train enthusiasts.

Its a hit or miss. When i went i barely seen any of the animals. And i paid extra for my friends 2 year old so she could have hands on experience. We fed one goat and then threw pellets for ducks...which was lame. You can throw pellwta for ducks anywhere for free. But im sure other people have had better experiences

I m from the Midwest so maybe I m just easily impressed, but this zoo is fantastic. The enclosures, the blending of the zoo with nature, the variety of animals is all pretty great. Can t wait to go back!

The Oregon Zoo is a beautiful zoo. However, charging full price when so many exhibits closed/empty due to refurbishing is highway robbery. No polar bears, no orangutans, low penguin population, primates empty (except for two playful primates that were swinging from the net above). Just glad it was a cool day today.

It was fun, expensive but fun. I think that it will be way more worth the money once the construction is finished. I feel like we got jipped on a few exhibits but I will take the blame on that one for not researching it ahead of time. Though if I was going to spend that money again it will be once the rest of the exhibits are open again.

Lots of beautiful animals in well-kept enclosures. It's currently under construction but it has good traffic flow. They've added clever posters describing the construction vehicles in animal terms. The elephant area is my favorite part. The elephants have a large area that includes inside and outside places to go. They also have a pool and we got to see them go diving for food!

I'll admit it, I'm spoiled. When we went to the zoo when I was a kid, it was the San Diego zoo. Fact is that no zoo can ever compare to that. When touring the Oregon zoo, I couldn't help but feel it was "quaint." We went on a Saturday in the morning and the zoo just had an empty vibe once you got past the main exhibits. Stores were closed, they were building a new section so had paths closed off, and there seemed to be a lot of places for snacks that were shuttered. IS the zoo not doing well, or did they build with more customers in mind than ever showed up. OR is Saturday not prime zoo time. I thought it was. Anyway, The Oregon zoo does Northwest better than any zoo I have seen, but all other areas just seem limited and sad. Except the elephants. The Elephant paddock is huge and there is just something about watching these titanic creatures that is awe inspiring. So nice but a little disappointing at the same time.

Loved my visit, it had been 7 years since my last visit. It was, (I overheard), your busiest day ever and everything ran smoothly and kept clean.
May I recommend having an app or link that a visitor can refer to and it shows where they are in the park, places they have been to and what they still haven't been too.

We went on a perfect day. Overcast, with a few rain showers, but no enough to get drenched.
This meant that most of the animals were out where they could easily be seen. The best was the Lions. Several came right up to the glass, so we could see them up close. They basically just ignored us, but we got a great view of them.
I know some people have the viewpoint that zoos are bad, but these animals would probably be dead if they weren't in the zoo, and who's to say there death would not be horribly painful. Here they get medical an dental treatment, good, nutritious food and decent shelter.
Plus, it's better than the early 1900's, where zoo admission (at least, many zoos) was a puppy or kitten to feed to the animals, although sometimes I wonder if they should bring that back, only donate a kid, instead. You wouldn't have to really donate a kid, but if they thought you could, they would NEVER misbehave

Really nice zoo but most of the animals are not in the habitat until mid 2020 because of renovations...... so that kinda sucks when you have to pay full price to see a few animals. They should have a special going until renovations are done, also only 1 food place open and 1 coffee place get super crowded not worth the trip in my opinion.

Great morning with my daughter and grandson. Ruined by a $44 parking ticket. My daughter misread and thought all day was $4. We returned less than 20 min after time expired. Ticket was timed 4 min after time expired. I guess they just need to rip off the public. Don't think I'll renew my grandsons annual membership.

tooo busy for Monday night. what was up with the light tunnel by the tigers. felt like a bunch of salmon swimming down stream. Weird that was the only way to get to and from the tigers to the train. I did notice there were more lights from previous years and the option to see Santa that was cool.

I love the Oregon Zoo! The elephant enclosure has been greatly improved and expanded, which is fantastic! Feeding time for the bats is always entertaining. I also enjoy the Pacific Northwest and African habitats & animals. The zoo seems to be working on remodeling and improving other habitats too, like for the primates. There are also food carts at the zoo now. I would recommend taking the MAX (light rail train) to the zoo, though, because traffic & parking are terrible.

Of course it's kinda sad that you have to pay to come here, but unlike other zoos the state doesn't tax us for it. It's a great zoo and during the holidays it's breathtaking to ride the train during the fabulous 'Zoo Lights' a must for the kiddies. Love it!
