Great place to go with family or just hanging with some friends. Zoo Lights are worth checking. The only issue I would have is that if you get a yearly pass, you can only take the children that you list on your package. They had no exceptions for the people who don't have children and would just like to take nieces, newphews, or just some friends children there when your out on play dates. They need to reconsider that to cater to all types of families.

Neat! Been here a long time ago. My wife and I now bring our son for his first visit. Train ride now was disappointingly short. Don't really get to see anything extra and it loops around and comes back right as you start enjoying yourself.

MORE FEES, LESS ANIMALS OVER YEARS . The only things you can see most are rocks, trees, grasses and empty animal cells with NO animals which everyone expected to see and watch . They also using pictures of wildlife to fire up your imagination instead of animals that you expected to see. Never to go back....Never

Love the zoo, became members and never looked back! Great food and drink and the animals and their habitats are very well maintained. Kids and adults love it! You must go to Oktoberfest in Septmber and Zoo Lights in December. Amazing events!

Where are the animals? Much was under construction and the animals weren't there. A modern zoo looks different. Especially the elephant part has to be viewed critically. Is that still up to date? I found it rather sad. There are other interesting animals that are better suited to keeping zoos.

I've been to this zoo multiple time through our my life. I've seen animals come and go, love the elephant exhibit, the polar bear, and alligator. They are frequently upgrading or working on exhibits to make it better for guests and the animals so you want to plan your trip accordingly. Parking can be a night mate but overflow parking and shuttle service is offered and tends to be posted before hand on the freeway signs. Food selection isn't bad but tends to have a decent line.

Great little zoo.. I say little because you can do the entire zoo in 2- hours or less. Every time I go the animals are active and the enclosures allow for great viewing. I can t wait to do zoo lights!

I love the zoo, my daughter loves the zoo. We wish it was more open like the elephants pen. The gift shop is too expensive. They make you pay $25 for a picture that one if the staff members take. The food is alright, but portions are child size.

Sadly many animals were put elsewhere for the remodel. Which would have been understandable..... But it would have been nice to know before we got tickets. Not one "housekeeping " info was given. Not even a map. But thankfully we are planning to come again(we bought a family deluxe pass) If it was a one time thing I would have been extremely disappointed. No chimps no apes, no polar bears, no rhinos, no bats, no hippos, no zebra, etc. We DID see cutest Elephants(3) ever, One giraffe, a glimpse of painted dogs(viewing area is below their hill, it makes it hard to see much more then ears) two Mama Lions and a Papa(lions sleep 20hrs a day and we missed their awake time ) We saw a Fun Crocodile! Various Birds, flamingos, etc. Seals were active! All in all we had a nice time. We can't wait to go back, although I think our membership ends before remodel is complete.

I ve been to many zoos of different state. This one was unique, very cute zoo with variety of things/area to do, little bigger than Woodland Zoo that s in Seattle area. It had a train activity which you can ride for little extra $ , a good area with hills to walk down the paths, it almost felt like some areas are like going into forest to walk. Mountain goats greets you at the entrance. And today 11/16/2019 the Zoo was totally free!

I have been to a lot of zoos and this is the worst one. The animals look sad, miserable, and malnourished. The water in the penguins, otters, and etc. was very brown and murky. The zoo holds rock concerts right next to the elephant exhibit and elephants have died there. In the zoo, there has been a lot of deaths.

I took two of my partners, my one partners son and my other partners mom and my three nieces to zoo lights. We rode the carousel, the train, and ate fries in the cafe there. It was beautiful and they moved the cool light tunnel to the front. I didn't have to wait to long for any line and we even got to see the seals and the rain deer. Plus our particular membership paid for everybodys admission.

Very good place to spend time in greenery. Very near to Washington Park and children museum. Free shuttle available to visit near by places during day time. Park also has rose garden with lots of variety of rose flowers at neighborhood.

The Oregon Zoo in Portland is super cool and a great walking workout. The flow and layout has changed for the better and the animals are usually out and about during the day. The train is great for kids and there is a petting zoo too.

I took my family here mid March. The size of the zoo is above average especially for a city as small as Portland. The animals were not very active and many of the exhibits were "coming soon." You really can't predict how animals are going to behave, so no judgement there; however, it would have been nice to have some of the zoo workers there at different locations to inform and give instructions (I only saw one on a busy weekend day).

The traffic there was fairly high with us having to park by shuttle - free btw (parking and shuttle) instead of paying next to the zoo. It took very little time to get from parking to the zoo. There were long lines for food that, as you would expect, is fairly expensive. I would recommend bringing food and drink.

The good stuff. I love elephants. The exhibit here is awesome for this beautiful animal. It takes up the largest portion of the zoo and they've done an excellent job creating a 'home' for them. You will be able to see them from several locations that makes it feel up close and personal though there is some separation. Wish I had pictures (family shots, sorry).

The whole area has a park/nature feel to it. You don't get the feeling of cages, bars, and concrete. The bird exhibits are the best example of this. You will get to go into the enclosure with the birds. They'll land on a branch near you (watch overhead for bombs). They'll walk on the ground in front of you. We were enjoying a bald eagle from nearly six feet away.

These are the kinds of experiences you don't find very often. Good family memories. Overall, a great zoo. I'm sure my family and I will enjoy coming back in the years to come.

The animals are cool but there s not much to see until 2020 because 1/2 the enclosures are closed. Overpriced and kind of ridiculous for food. DO NOT RIDE THE TRAIN it s 16$ for a family of four to ride and it s not more than five minutes of nothing and then a tunnel. I ll come back though.

Good zoo, larger enclosures and yet the viewing zones are placed to still provide closeness to the animals. Also summer is a fantastic time because the zoo kids are out and very knowledgeable and positioned at almost every enclosure with hand on our informative pitches about the animals. My kids loved it.

It was ok lots of exibits we're close Wich sucked because we didn't see anything out front that told you it was under construction. The prices have gone up Wich is opposite of what you would expect considering so mand things we're close.

Zoo under construction. Exhibits are half there. No discount prices. No bears,(black bears only), monkeys and several other animals missing. Parking ok for narrow cars, thanks to portland for getting greedy. Let everybody out first, then park.

We are at the AfriCafe and it was a horrible experience. We ordered a burger and the Concert Burger, which is supposed to come with guacamole. When we sat down, there was no guac. I went back and asked if they were out and was told no, that I had ordered a regular cheeseburger. She offered to give me some, which was nice. But, I showed her the receipt and she apologized. Next, I noticed that the bacon was raw! Taking it back, they annoyingly swapped it for some that was done. Then, the icing the cake... The "fries" weren't hit. The were barely room temperature!
Avoid this place! You'd be better served at a food truck.

The Oregon Zoo has done so much to improve their habitats and keep animals healthy and enriched. Great job, way to go. I just hope that Polar Passage provides the bears with substantial AC this time.

Took my boys for the first time during my vacation and we had a blast. Sad to see so many exhibits closed at once but its understandable. Be prepared to spend a fair amount of money for admission and food.
