Small zoo good experience for young kids. We had to come back 9 times before we got a glimpse of the red panda. The train ride is criminally short and could be improved dramatically. Feeding the giraffe was fun. The zoo is not as good as Seattle or San Diageo, but for a local attraction worth a visit.

We visited this zoo while in Portland and found it to be lacking. The animal enclosures that have been updated are really nice like the elephant area. The house that all of the primates are in is not quite so. We found ourselves feeling a bit sorry for them. There are not really all that many animals at this zoo compared to some others around the US. If you visit many it might be better to visit the Japanese Gardens, is the general opinion.

How was the zoo you ask, Google? The exhibits were EMPTY (literally almost every single one), and filled with some of THEE DUMBEST, RUDEST, VERY POSSIBLY CRACK COCAINE ADDICTED OREGON AND WASHINGTON WHITE TRASH. I mean filled TO THE BRIM with rude sub humans. I've not been to the zoo in a good long while, and am sad to see it's current state. Let's hope when the construction is done it goes back to the place I remember (quality wise, of course it will never be the same).

It's the Zoo, so who can hate on that. Really stoked by the elephant exhibit, and looking forward to what they are working on now - I think polar bear and primates. So glad I voted for the ballot measure back in the day when I still lived in Portland.

Word of advice, don't bother with the elephant ears though. It always takes forever to get thru the line, they're overpriced, they don't put enough cinnamon sugar on them, and there are no other toppings you can get. Easy pass, distract your kids and rush them by the stand.

A must visit in Portland OR.

As members, we were able to visit the zoo the first weekend they reopened. It was a great experience - reduced number of visitors, mask policy in place and we felt very comfortable having our child come along.

We returned to the zoo this last weekend and it was not the same experience. The staff made it seem like masks were optional throughout most of the park with the loud speaker messaging and many people simply didn't adhere to the mask policy. We asked an employee about the lack of enforcement and received a half baked response "that they're trying."

It's sad that a handful of people ruin what should be a safe, memorable experience for everyone else. I ask the staff to please enforce the mask and social distancing policy so everyone can feel safe while supporting our local zoo.

The train ride was loud, slow and boring the only exhibit visible from the train was the elephants exhibit and they were so far away it was unenjoyable. Granted we went there toward the later part of the afternoon into the evening so maybe go during the morning to afternoon hours. All the concessions stands were closed so we were forced to buy $2.50 12ounce sodas -__-. Great place to get some excersice and see some of Gods wonderful creatures if you go at a proper time.

Pretty disappointing as far as a zoo of that size goes. Several animals aren't there because of construction as well as one sadly passing away however we paid the same as if it were a full zoo. Didnt get to see several animals due to hiding im guessing even tho there were carcasses out for feeding. Plus unknowingly went on a concert day so missed out on the virds of prey show and had to deal with a concert crowd and part of the zoo closing.

We bought our Daughter the otter package that allowed her to pet and handle the otters. They told us to be there 15 minutes early, but the disorganized employees didn't show up until right on time. When they did show up they seemed to have no idea what was going on. I found their customer service efforts a bit lacking. Our daughter enjoyed the experience nonetheless. I think the saving grace for the day, was that we got to watch Elephants have sex. Ron Jeremy had nothing on Samudra.

WAY overpriced. Adult tickets are almost $18 and children 12 and over are considered adults. That does not include the cost to park there (if you can even find a spot). Half of the exhibits are closed down and will be for a long time to come. The train ride that used to be awesome and took you up to the Rose Garden, is now a complete joke. It costs $4 to ride and is over in about as many minutes. It's sad to see such a wonderful Zoo go to hell like that. Unfortunately, we wont be going back anytime soon.

My family went to the zoo but learned upon arrival tickets need to be purchased online and a time slot is given to minimize overcrowding, paths are well organized to ensure spacial distancing throughout the zoo. There are a few food carts open.

We visited here on Veteran's Day 2019 as my husband is a vet. Love that they do this every year!
Parking can be tricky at the zoo but we got there pretty close to opening and there were tons of spaces available.
Staff are always really friendly and helpful any time I've visited! When we first walked in, Sundance (I believe) the red tail hawk was right out front which was really neat. I love watching animals, so it was fun having all the different kinds and they were out and about!
Some exhibits are being built right now so very excited for the next time we visit!!

My family and I love the Oregon Zoo. We maintain an annual membership so that we can go often. It's a great place for adults and children. We love Zoo Lights between Thanksgiving and New Years and usually go more than once.
I respect that the Oregon Zoo is constantly upgrading the animal habitats and doing their very best to care for all of their animals. They maintain wonderful facilities and have two restaurants in addition to food carts. They have concerts on the lawn and fun, day camps for kids in the summer. There are great volunteer opportunities for teens.
I love the carousel and the zoo train is very popular.

We loved it here! Had so much fun looking at all the cute animals. This place is huge! we ended up walking for about 2 1/2 hrs! They also have little places to eat and grab a snack. The train ride is not very long, and you don't really see any animals, but it's fun.!

Really nice to see so much construction and upgrading going on! It was sorely needed, to the point that it was just sad going to the Oregon zoo. The elephants were having a blast in their expanded area. Looks like a lot more coming soon. Many more food options and better quality too.

Disappointing that we spent money we could have used elsewhere, there during construction and most animals "away or INSIDE FOR THE WINTER" time barely saw anything, even staff were scarce and attractions, restaurant, food trucks all closed and Not disclosed upon arrival or during purchase of tickets..

I wish there was a sign or something to warn you that like 5 enclosures are shut down for construction. At least it was $5 Tuesday so we didn't waste money. When everything is up and running we love it here and frequently go in summer.

Attended Zoo Lights. Crowded but the free shuttle was running efficiently. Lights were beautiful as always. New spaces and Education Center area are very nice. Train lights were good. Just wish there were a longer loop.

Beautiful park with alot of SHADE! It helped on a hot July afternion like today. I feel like maybe they could show more attention to the parking lot. We went on a day when there was construction going on. We will be back for the polar bears in November! Overall great visit, Oregon zoo is one of the oldest zoo's in the nation!

Great zoo! Went a bit later in the afternoon so I didn't make it through the whole zoo, but it was a great time. They also sell beer and wine in the zoo, so that is kinda cool. My favorite part, ironically, was the construction on the new exhibits. They have it staged like it is an exhibit and have information on all the construction equipment and "viewing windows " into the construction area. Little kids love cranes and trucks!

It was very hot the animals were tired and laying around and doing nothing exciting. it was a very nice out and a great family place we liked all the interactive stuff with the animal exhibits.we will come back when it's cooler.

:) :)

One of the best kids places in Portland. Be warned this zoo is on a hill and it can be quite a hike to see everything, which you will want to do. VERY excited for the new elephant exhibit opening soon. The membership is a great deal for families. On a busy day or weekend it is a good idea to take MAX, the parking lot can be a mess and the spots are incredibly narrow.

Oh man this place was awesome!! I was visiting from Las Vegas and we had nothing like this, I love that the zoo was built into the surrounding environment not just steam rolled into a animal mall. All the animals looked happy and well cared for. I am definitely going to go back in 2020 after they finish the new primate area and the polar bear area!! 10 Bald Eagles out of 10 'Mericas would Zoo again!!
