I agree with other people here. It's hit or miss depending on when you go. I've been here about 4-5 times with the kids and my wife for everything from car accidents to spots accidents. The last time we came in the staff couldnt have been nicer and tried their best to make us comfortable, but the time before that was insane because it was packed and everyone was on their last nerve.

My fiance and I got to the ER at 9pm. We were there because he had severe kidney pain and blood when urinating. There was about 30 people there waiting when we got there. After an hour and 15 minutes, I went to the front desk to find out why the long wait. I was told they were filled to capacity, apologized to for the delay and advised we had been there for an hour and a half, there were people there that had been waiting to be seen by a Dr for 2 hours and 20 minutes and the average wait time was 1 hour and 50 minutes. At 11pm, 2 hours after being there and after the ER waiting room was pretty much empty and after EVERYONE that arrived after us had been called in to see a Dr, again I approached the front desk and expressed my concern only to be responded back to rudely by the intake nurse telling me that everyone is not being called to the same area and he would be called whenver they had a room available. At midnight, 3 hours after arriving to the ER, he was called in to be seen. After sitting in the room with no one coming to say anything for about 20 minutes, the Dr. nonchalantly walked in, asked my fiance why he was there and his symptoms and left the room all within 3 minutes. The nurse came back to the non private room a few minutes later to put in an IV. After about 10 min of trying to find a vein, and poking him 2x in the hand got the IV in. They took him for about 15 min to do a CT scan and bought him back. So, after about another hour my fiance gets up to go to the bathroom, at that time the Dr I guess realized he was still there and in the middle of the hallway where everyone could listen to what he was saying, patients, visitors l, staff told him what the CT scan result was. He told him he was gonna run fluids through him and then discharge him. So once the IV he was given would be done, we were leaving. At about 3am after we were exhausted, drained and extremely upset about our entire experience we noticed that his IV bag was not dripping! So 3 hours later after putting IV on him, nothing was happening! I advised the nurse, she said "oh, really?" I'll be there in a minute. At 3:40am, after being up 20 minutes shy of 24 hours I know turned to the Dr and told him exactly that. "Dr I've been up for almost 24 hours now, if he is ok can you lease discharge him so we can go home? I am exhausted!" He turned around arrogantly and with am attitude and told me " I gave the nurse his chart, as soon as she can he will be discharged". In conclusion, I had never, ever in my life been in a hospital emergency room for 7 hours and had never experienced such little professionalism and such incompetence! The director of this hospital should be absolutely ashamed of his or her emergency room staff!

Stay away, worst hospital ever, terrible staff and terrible costumer service, somebody in ER stole my weeding ring and nobody responds for this, don't ever come to this hospital, definitely you can find much better hospital, please save your time and energy dont try to talk with patients relationships It's a waste of time.

Horrible Mother was in the ER for over 8 hours today... just to turn around and go home without being helped. Which I told her not to go there in the first place... it's always slow, and to know that this is a hospital sucks

6 years ago I visited my sister-in-law who was hospitalized in this hospital, I did not like the place or the treatment that the staff gave to the patients. Since 7/28/17 I have been visiting my sister-in-law, who is in intensive care, both the doctors and the nursing staff give excellent treatment to the patient, they are kind, courteous, didactic, explicit, BILINGUAL, with good manners . As for the premises, the renovation they have done is of the most modern, fully equipped that I can even say "DA GUsTO ESTAR en este HOSPITAL", the taxes I pay are well invested.

ER bedside manor is good . The nurses on the 3rd floor where my grandmother is in , is also good and attentive with medications , radiology results etc , but what I don t understand is why do we have to call for room service everyday ? Shouldn t that be automatic ? Especially since her diet is logged into the computer so when room service is called we give them the room number and they already know each and everyone diet . So why is it that we have to call every day for room service AND we have to wait close to 3 hours for a tray ? Thank god we come everyday to see my grandma .

Emergency is good. However nurses at the hospital are sonething else... will say 70% of them are always in bad mood and not helpful at all. Avoid this place ... take your loved ones to a better one!

I went to the emergency room today because of bad stomachache. After 2 hours of waiting, someone took me in and after 1 hour, a doctor came in with an echo machine to draw my blood. He didn't know how to draw blood and kept fishing to find the vein. After multiple tries he decided to try to draw blood from my forearm and failed again. On top of the pain I was going through I had to go through the brain of him playing with the needle in my arm. I decided to leave the hospital since no one knew what they were doing and the doctor said why did you even come here, there are other hospitals to go to and made me sign that they are not responsible if anything is to happen to me. But he didn't sign for me that he's stupid and couldn't draw my blood.

About two years ago, my 7 year old daughter ended up in another hospital. She was critically ill; and since there was a children's hospital within St. Joseph Regional Medical Center they transferred her there. They put us in a room with another patient (the family of the patient had poor attitudes, were loud & obnoxious). I'm sure it was there upbringing and it is not the fault of the hospital; after all it is in the inner city. She was on the pediatric floor and all the nurses were extremely helpful and polite. My daughter took a turn for the worse!!!! We ended up in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit; the staff was very knowledgeable and my daughter got better. I was so appreciative of everybody. Here came the problem; I passed by one of the other beds and realized there was a grown man in the bed. Upon asking one of the nurses why this man was here, they advised me that they take patients up to there 22nd birthday no matter what. I thought to myself, I have a grown man next to me and my daughter. I did not feel safe, I heard his family talk about how he was shot. His friends who were clearly gang members came to visit, I was afraid and uncomfortable almost always. Worse; when this grown man got up to walk, he looked at me in such a way. When I got up to ask the nurse a question he saw me and state "hey shorty, come here". I didn't think he was talking to me at first but then he pointed at me and said "yeah you". He wanted my number? He was repulsive. I would have felt more comfortable if there was a security guard at the door of the ICU, that maybe kept track of who was coming and going. His friends would go to the adult ICU to visit the other gunshot victim and then come down to the pediatric ICU. HOW DO I KNOW THAT SOMEONE WASN'T GOING TO COME TO FINISH HIM OFF? I am a paying customer with private insurance; I did my research, and toured another hospital, just in case she needs to ever be hospitalized again for anything. Other hospitals will only take up to 18, have security at the door of the pediatric floor and pediatric ICU (St. Joseph's Security is only in the lobby, what a joke). They NEVER take any teens who are a part of a shooting, gang members or who are pregnant. (Did I mention that on my right was a teenage girl who was apparently pregnant?) What a great example for my daughter.... LOL As a single mom it's hard enough! I took my daughter for follow up in a different facility; I have to ensure the safety of my family. A pediatric floor should only have pediatric patients with problems that relate to a pediatric patient. Normal children do not get shot, they do not get pregnant and they are not gang members. Normal pediatric floors have patients that are under 18. NEVER WILL I GO TO ST. JOSEPH'S AGAIN. THEY OBVIOUSLY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR PATIENTS OR THE SAFETY OF THEIR STAFF!!! They obviously do not care about the images that their patients see. Pediatric patients should be sheltered from this type of activity.
Last week; my daughter was rushed to the emergency room via ambulance. . . They took her to St. Joseph because it was the closest hospital . What a nightmare!!!!! We were on the pediatric floor with a PRISONER!!!! What is a prisoner doing on a pediatric floor!!!!! I felt so uncomfortable. . . He was handcuffed to the bed rail and an armed police officer was sitting at the door. Why is it OK to allow these type of patients on the pediatric floor??? My daughter asked me why he was handcuffed to the bed. . . Worst part of all is that I vowed never to return to St. Joes but was forced to by the Ambulance driver. Later I found out that this prisoner was a gang member who was shot by a rivaling gang. . . . WHY ARE THERE GANG MEMBERS ON THE PEDIATRIC FLOOR????? The nurses express discontent about it, yet they were forced to care for a prisoner in the midst of caring for infants and children.

The worst hospital of all

The worst hospital of all
I've been waiting with my baby for hours
to be served and all well seated with their coffee in hand
And nobody cares about sick children

Doesn t look like much has changed since I was a 10 year old girl left in a bed in the children s ward. Nuns were the nurses back then. Nothing to do but wait for barbaric testing each day. My dad came in every day and mom when she could. They regretted ever leaving me there to get the care I needed.

After hours (understandable as they are very busy)...

After hours (understandable as they are very busy) they turn substance abusers loose into the street, because they do not do suboxone or other treatment regimens. Its a scam ... they're there for the "OD" part, and then you're on your own!!! They want the medicare $$$ ... thats about it!

This is the worst hospital ever I don t recommend it at all I had a terrible experience the nurses are unprofessional and they overdosed me with antibiotics which affected my kidneys.

They tried to inject me with something in my sleep and when I woke up during them trying to drug me they wouldn t tell me what it was. I didn t feel as smart afterwards I think it s there stuff they use to make people dumber to keep them there.

My sister who has dementia was admitted to this hospital and stayed there for three weeks, let me begin by saying it was a terrible experience! She was not bathed for three whole weeks. Her condition worsened every single day she was there. She was unable to feed herself therefore she had to wait until either I or my brother visited to feed her. A couple of times I found her nails full of feces because she would try to get into her diaper. I left in tears many nights, I would never recommend this hospital to anyone! They don't care! I would stop at the nurses station and the people working at the nurses station would never look up and address me! I was ignored. Please do not take your love ones to this hospital!

The ER And the staff is terrible. I wouldnt go there if my life is at risk. They need another hospital in paterson because this hospital clearly overcrowded and run buy nasty staff doctors and nurses. You could wait up to 8-9 hours in the ER before you even get to see a nurse or a doctor. I bet even if you have a heart attack they will tell you sit down and wait thats how careless they are. Nurses rude and give you attitude if you dont like your job then quit nobody wants to deal with your attitude your taking care of sick people for gods sake. This hospital is ridiculous. Even if you are in an emergency ask the ambulance or the person whos taking you to take you to another closer hospital . Either way this hospital will kill you just by waiting and doing nothing. They are known for misdiagnosing people and not paying enough attention to detail and send sick people home without doing anything

I then went to the fifth floor room 565 the nurses and staff were terrific,so nice it was a great experience to have such great care I was there till Wednesday evening then went home I'm grateful to the hospital and staff thank you Heidi Mugrauer

If I could give zero stars I would. Just like the previous mom said there is no help if you daughter or son has a suicide or mental problem. I just called the hospital and the nurses are no help and rude. Some doctors are nice but they do not have anyone to speak to my child as far as issues with anxiety attacks or depression. All the have is someone to screen your daughter to be referred somewhere else. The referral takes long because you have to wait for someone to call you back again to be screened again and wait for a call back. Ridiculous these hospitals are no help. Stay away from St. Joseph s pediatric in general. Shame on these nurses that just sit there and talk to each other instead of worrying about their patients.

Very pleased with my experience at St. Joseph's. I have been a patient of Dr. Priscilla Kaszubski for about two years now would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for Dr. Kaszubski s continued dedication and genuine concern for my health as well. She is a true professional; not only is she very knowledgeable but she is kind, patient, and understanding. Very pleased with the staff and doctors here!

This hospital is the worst I feel like if someone were to come here almost about to die they would treat the patient right.
I came here three time and had issues with being treated. And what they told me was that if the patient isn't dead then they can't treat them. So might as well not go to a hospital and die somewhere else and on my last time that I had to go I ended up leaving and not being treated and had to pay for the parking anyways.

I m thankful for the doctors that delivered my daughter . When we got there service was on point and Amy from delivery was on top of everything and on point. Unfortunately she was only with us until 9PM when her shift ended . Then we got Elisa which I m not very happy with her service within an hour she made three mistake and used unnecessary language when she made a mistake. She was a bit rude about everything and seemed like she didn t enjoy doing her job

I think that one star is much more then what this hospital deserve. The first time I went to the ER I was left for six hours dealing with worst staff. When I left the hospital I decided not to come back no matter what. But the next time I had a bad pain and my doctor told me to go to St. Joseph's because they have my file and they will be able to help me. When I went I was left with pain for five hours just waiting for them to see what decision they decided to go for. I am really sorry to say that it's the worst hospital I ever saw.

Bad attention in the Oncology section, except for the department where they do the radiation there if they are excellent, but very disappointed with the other departments, where even if you arrive early before the shift time they attend 4 hours later, then they make you pass They leave you waiting Another half hour until the doctor comes to treat you, then you leave, you have to wait Another half hour to get the doctor's prescription or analysis that you have to do and tell you that your appointment is decided by them and you will arrive by mail

The staff housekeeping was good and doctors as well just the the security the old man I asked him for directions and he told me he didn t know, what kind of security doesn t know where certain areas are like you work there and he wasn t new or anything just didn t want to help out and the parking lady didn t explain the ticket correctly she had me over 2 hours after I was discharged just so I can get my ticket cleared since I was there for surgery. The transportation of the wheel chair took long as well it had me wait g over 45 minutes when I could ve been down the stairs while being sick in 20 minutes. Like these things shouldn t even happen in a hospital

Last night my three year old ended up in the emergency room. The staff, everyone from the person who checked us in to the nurses and doctors were amazing. They were professional, KIND, and super attentive. My child ended up being okay, but the kindness they showed us will never be forgotten.

Good attention, terrible service to a man, he injected anti-inflammatories, for a stomach ache is worse than what came without them seeing the reactions, now he is physically and psychologically altered, I do not know what they put him but it was for the worse, pity you see good on the outside but in terrible medical care

The worst place to be when you in need . My 13 year old daughter was there today at the ER . And Absolutely Nothing was Done . They had her wait for over 4 hours. Then when finally a room was Available she sat there for another hour waiting for A Doctor. FINALLY The doctor comes in checked her for about 3 minutes and tells her she just has to wait because they very busy????? Total BS . I can't wait till they send me the bill for doing nothing . SHAME ON YOU !!! WHERE'S THE BOSS . WHO'S RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS BS . HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO PEOPLE. DISGUSTING

Wish I could put 0 stars. This place is terrible, my wife had our son there and they were absolutely terrible. The doctors didn t seem to know what they were doing. My wife started bleeding and the doctors would not tell us anything and the attending before even checking my wife to see what was wrong was trying to rush her off for a c-section. Not to mention the person doing her epidural kept messing up and actually called in someone else to help and they still messed up, they stuck my wife 4 times and could not do it right to save their lives. Let s fast forward now, they go to do my sons circumcision and messed up and now he has to have it redone, and on top of that with out getting consent from my wife or I let a med student do the circumcision, and are now trying to say that it is our fault when 2 other doctors have both said it looks like it wasn t even done. I highly do not recommend anyone go to this hospital for anything, go somewhere else.

We have been waiting for 2 hrs to be seen, my daughters doctor sent us over because she s having trouble breathing. And we have been sitting here since 10:45am to be seen. I hate hospitals as it is and this experience makes me hate it more.
Some people need attention more than others, sorry to say. Some are here because they are sick and don t have insurance so they come here to be treated for a cold. But the sad part is the people that are here for emergency have to wait for so long because of these people, smh

Horrible hospital!! My son was in fever and they sent him home without doing absolutely anything about it. Patients have to be agonizing so they can actually take a patient seriously. Worst hospital in the world..

I work for a doctor's office and obtaining medical records for continued treatment on patients is a nightmare, I've even spoken to the Medical Records manager Erika on several occasions and NO RESULT until I got through to Human Resources, then I received most of the records, now I've been waiting for records since October 2014. This is a disgrace to the medical field & to the patient's treated at St Joseph's in Paterson, NJ who cannot get proper care due to the Medical Records Dept.

ER experience was the worst!!!! I came and was signed in and they gave me bracelet and told me to wait...3 hours go by and a bunch of people who were here after I came we re seen and I m still waiting. I go to the ER desk and ask how much longer I will need to wait and they say I m not in the system!!!! They said that they take my name out of the system if they came and called for me and I never responded BUT I was never called (since I was by myself I was awake the entire time) I asked will I have to continue waiting again and she answered that I would have to wait again until I m called! Worst hospital in New Jersey, even if I m dying I ll never come here again!

I was very hesitant to come here after all the bad reviews but my personal experience was a great one here. From the time I stepped into the er everyone there was super helpful, kind and accommodating. I had surgery done and every single nurse, doctor that i came across made me feel so at ease. I want to thank them all from the bottom of my heart

If I could give this hospital a negative star I would. If you re considering taking your child there please do yourself the favor and take them to another hospital. My niece had severe appendicitis and when her parents took her here they said she was fine. Low and behold they took her to another hospital not even 48 hours later and she had to have emergency surgery to remove her appendix and is STILL being hospitalized. Shame on that pediatric ward and their staff for being so uneducated in healthcare that they sent a very sick child home. Thank God her parents had enough sense to get a second opinion. I am a mother and I would never trust this hospital with the care of anyone in my family. They re reckless and quite frankly a danger to the community.

I cannot even begin to describe the DISGUST I feel towards this place after watching, with my own 2 eyes, how terribly they treated my brother a couple nights ago. The staff is unsympathetic and the building itself is disgusting- I've been to animal shelters that are run better than this poor excuse for a hospital. We actually had to wheel out my brother ourselves (NO help was offered to us whatsoever), and when we finally got to the exit the doctors, if you can even call them that, wouldn't even open the double doors for us. Instead they made us push a wheelchair containing a patient being released from TRAUMA with a bad leg & stitches through a narrow hallway full of computers. I can't even find the right words to describe the nauseating feeling our experience left us with.

Hadi my second baby here. I was very pleased with the nursing staff, the overall birthing experience, my obgyn, the hospital room service especially the nutrition and kitchen department. ALL the nurses were super nice and friendly and accommodating. They often came to check on me and help me with anything I needed and super personable. Thank you!

My wife recently delivered here with Dr. Kaminskyj. Everyone was great! The Mother/Baby units are being upgraded - can't wait to see how they turn out. Overall everyone was very kind, the nurses and staff were attentive, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We have other children that were delivered at another local hospital systems and this was by far our best experience - even despite COVID-19, etc.

Worst experience ever. I got hit by a car and they didn't even give me a room I was in a hallway the whole time. The lady who took me to get a CT scan was so rude and inconsiderate. I got in at 11 and didn't leave until 4 took them 3 hours to give me pain medicine. Avoid this place at all costs.

I always hear people talk bad about st. Joe. But it came to light for me. I was there for heart problems and the whole time I was there I was complaining to the doc . About my stomach no one did nothing upon getting ready to discharge I spit up blood no one did nothing for 5 or more hour I had to wait while spitting up blood I could of died

So I bring my 1 month old for an ultrasound at 9am, they do the ultrasound and find out that he needs to have surgery to open up one of his tracks to his stomach and that they can do it right away so we stayed here instead of trying to find another hospital to go to which we should have just done, they tell us he s going to have the surgery the next day between 8am and 9am and he can t eat anything until it s done ok that s fine so the next day they wait until 10am to tell us it s been pushed back to 2pm unless there s another emergency in the meantime, still can t eat until the surgery is done so
We re over 24hrs from the last bottle. So on top of all this bs one of the surgeons has the biggest attitude on the whole world if you ask her any questions. Everyone please stay away from this hospital unless you feel like flipping out and going to jail ps what kind of hospital doesn t ask for id for any visitors

Horrible place my partner is here now due to a stroke some of the staff is not bad but some have the worst attitude s he was lying in his own urine last night he had to call me at 430 in the morning wanting to get out of there it takes forever to get someone to his room to help him out he told me that one day he spilled some of his food and the nurse yelled at him for it I flipped out when I heard about it they never answer the nurses buzzer and when they do it s with an attitude stay away from that place horrible horrible hospital

Just left the e.r. since the wait was at least another 4 hrs long AND ALREADY WAITED 7 HRS. Who is in charge of triage? They have people really sick injured and in pain waiting over 8 hrs. You can go for a broken leg or a broken nail the wait time is the same! They have to learn the meaning of TRIAGE!.

The worst hospital ... In all nj ... Non-professional people ... They reveal your diagnosis in front of everyone ... And the worst doctor ... Without comparison ... When a hospital is to help you, it doesn't stop make you feel worse!

The worst hospital yet. The doctors get mad/offend...

The worst hospital yet. The doctors get mad/offended when asked questions about your being. I'm 32 weeks pregnant I was unfortunately transferred to this hospital for their NICU just incase I happened to give birth. They immediately wanted to inject me with all sorts of stuff with out informing me as to why. When I told the nurses/doctors that the previous hospital I was in I only needed 24 hrs or mag & no steroids. They simply told me well we don't care what they say, this is how we do things. When my husband and I asked why they wanted to add an extra 48 hrs of mag & other things they wanted to put me on. Their answer simply was oh because the head doctor said so. Oh and best part my greeting to the hospital by the nurse was, "WELCOME TO ST. JOSEPHS, YOU'RE OFFICIALLY IN THE GHETTO." Who says that to a pregnant woman who may give birth. They were dismissing everything my ob was asking for saying her word means nothing here. So my husband and I simply decided to sign ourselves out not allow them to insert any sorts of medications for the safety of my twins & I. Thank God we went with our gut & went to St. Barnabas in Livingston. NOW THATS AN AMAZING HOSPITAL!!! Oh and my goodbye from the doctor at St. Joseph's was that if my babies die (due to me singing myself out) it would be my fault not theirs. I understand that is correct but what kind of horrible person says that so bluntly, very unprofessional! But there is a God and he will work his justice. I feel bad for any pregnant woman who comes here and doesn't know their rights or simply just complies with them because "they know best." Trust your gut feeling. I went to St. Barnabas I wasn't contracting nor dilated so all the drugs they wanted to bombard me with at St. Joesphs was not necessary. Go to a hospital where they care about you, don't get bothered answering any questions & value your feelings. I can't say this enough worst hospital ever. Don't give birth here if you have a choice. You and your baby deserve better.

Charge you for parking (minimum of $5.00), and put you in a room indefinitely--with no one willing to give any info. Had to leave after waiting 1.5 hours for simple X-ray and come to NYC, where I was x-rayed and seen by a doctor within 20 minutes (at ER).

I would avoid this place if today is any indication--not because they we're busy, but because no one would give any information on when I might get seen.

I agree with most of what's it's been said but what it bothers me the most is the fact that when you go to the ER, they don't have a private room functioning as triage, last time I was at the ER they were taking my vital signs in their open triage, the nurse was loudly asking me about the reason of my visit and I didn't want everybody seating close by to hear so I answered softly and she asked again I answer and she continues anphasising about my illness I was so embarrassed and humiliated but I was feeling so sick that I just wanted to be treated, after my visit to the ER, I couldn' stop thinking, I thought we as patients are protected by HIPPA and we shouldn't be treated with respect, they need to have a private room to sort emergencies and most importantly they need to educate their medical staff, now with a clear mind( because at that moment I was feeling very sick I wanted treatment most than anything) it really gets me upset when I think about it.
