I have seen some debate going in other commentaries and that is wonderful. An iconic institution can not be the same for 30 years and over and beyond that.
Sir Alex had to go, and who is going to be better than him? What you will experience is an eclectic crowd, and the buzz of the Ivy is truly remarkable. It is worth every minute of being there.
Acoustics of the place are exceptional. If you take text book dishes like green pea soup or haddock, the experience will be totally great. As you will see in my other posts, I rarely write adverse commentary. Well, it is what you give out that will receive.
Restaurants critics will debate this! What I would perhaps agree with, is that having old friends amongst waiting staff and not seeing them again is something that the Ivy could improve on. A couple of dishes in the experimental avenue are open for healthy debate. The rest is Five Stars and above.
Top restaurant and impeccable service..staff attentive and polite ... unmissable stop !!!
First class experience from start to finish, Attentive Staff and amazing food. Would highly recommend.
We ate here before Theatre. Amazing staff ensured an excellent meal in plenty of time to make the show. Would recommend to everyone who loves food!
Just beautiful... amazing team of servers comfortable surroundings fantastic atmosphere and I can't forget the tasty food... Take me back here soon
Very disappointing experience tonight. We were asked to leave earlier than originally planned because we only had a starter, dessert, Prosecco and coffee! Wonderful and very apologetic waiter though..but it will be a never again for us.
Used this one a few times and also in Birmingham. Prefer the one in Birmingham but great food
5 star service, 5 star food. Extremely attentive waiters. Couldn't ask for anything more.
THE IVY Absolutely loved it... will definitely be booking another table very soon.
Comfortable atmosphere. Delicious food and very attentive but not overbearing waiting staff. Quite reasonably priced for where it is.
Great food and brilliant staff, nice atmosphere.
Best Creme Brulee I've had.Not a bad word to say.Thankyou
Happened across The Ivy while walking as they had space for two for lunch. Given it's famous we had high expectations but they were not met. Positives: Service was good and friendly, decor is very pleasant and peaceful. Negatives: It seemed every part of both starters and mains were cooked at too high a temperature. The butter or roux or whatever was the base for the spaghetti sauce was burnt, as were many other flavours like the lamb and hummus starter. The vegetables were almost all bitter. Also, service was good but not very good, often the food was dumped in front us quickly by a passing waiter who barely slowed their walking pace. Attitude of staff though was excellent.
I would recommend you go elsewhere. Given it's also not even recommended in the Michelin guide despite competing on that level of prestige, we know our views are shared with many.
I rarely write reviews but as patrons might come here for a special evening I thought it important enough to say something.
Recent refit has seen the bar move into the main restaurant, but otherwise not radical change. Less of a "celeb" Hangout these days, but still great food and service. Not cheap, but you'll often pay as much for less superior dishes in other places around Covent Garden, so in my opinion well worth a visit.
Bit expensive when times are hard, no celebs this time!
Not cheap, not easy to find and not easy to book. In other words, this place is not for everyone but caters for those seeking a quality dining experience. The service is great, the food is very good and the ambient is what you would want in such a place. A perfect enjoyable evening.
Great food reasonably priced in a relaxed beautifully designed interior.
posh but god simple british food. not cheap but not sill expensive
Brilliant food, amazing service and a wonderful atmosphere.
Always look forward to coming here! Such good food and courteous service.
A beautiful and exquisite British restaurant. A little difficult to find at first, but it's nicely hidden from the main tourist routes... Food and service is first class as expected!
The service was awesome when we arrived but tailed off pretty quickly, to the point where the waiter was trying to take my plate before I'd even swallowed my last mouthful. We assumed as it was post theatre that they didn't want us to linger but it then took 40 minutes to get the bill when we'd finished. The food was good but not amazing. We also had a really irritating woman sat on the next table who kept bursting into song, not the Ivy's fault but didn't help the ambience! Wouldn't go again, the Ivy Brasseries seem to be better overall.
Great food and fantastic service as always. A favorite of mine.
The food was very tasty but the portions were small. We tried the liver and the shepherds pie. The service however was really poor, perfunctory and unfriendly. Also, our mains arrived literally 5 minutes after ordering while we were just starting on our cocktails - and after they had warned us each dish was made to order so if would take a while...
Nice Food
We liked it a lot
It's really good. Every dish I've had has been great, especially the steak tartare. Obviously it's not cheap but imo it's worth it, and it's got a nice atmosphere.
Couldn't have a drink because I didn't have a reservation and was on my own.
Very average food and expensive drinks. Nice service though. Nothing really special except for maybe the location.
Absolutely incredible food and the staff were just so lovely! We celebrated our 25th wedding Anniversary in style, it s an evening We shall never forget. Thank you for making it so special.
Food is tasty and service is very good as expected, but definitely isn't value for money compared to other high end restaurants. You are paying for the name. The vegetarian and especially vegan options are few and far between.
Outstanding service and staff. Made our special day in London a real great experience. Just cannot wait to go back and try something new, and font forget to order vegetables with set menus
Love this original Ivy with staff who make the extra step even when we asked about Diet Coke with Mango which they bought from a shop. Rest assured; they will NOT be adding it to their bar menu! Amazing effort!
The service at the Ivy is always beyond my expectation. My husband and I loves going there for a chilled evening from time to time. Cannot recommend this place enough. None of the recent opened market place chains are in comparison to this very original Ivy.
Great ambience , food delicious....only issue uncomfortably hot in restaurant
The Ivy is a very chic bar and restaurant near the theater district. We had some great drinks and some good food at the bar before we headed off for a show!
A pre or post theatre essential. The west end isn't complete without going to the Ivy for supper. Indescribable food and cocktails
Beautiful authentic restaurant, lovely atmosphere for a special meal. Bar staff and matradee staff very welcoming, friendly and courteous. Food and drinks were delicious.
medium dishes, too salty, good atmosphere, good service.
The food was amazing and service the best. Its not at all stuffy, its friendly but polite. The atmosphere was relaxed but special.
The duck liver is really tasty. But service was not good enough. Our waiter forgot our sparkling water at first, and then when the sparkling water finally came, they took it away by accident later...
Very good attention and the food also very good, it seems a highly recommended place for those who visit London and look for some more typical food in the area.
Fantastic experience. The slip sole fish was the best fish I ve ever had. A true British dining experience.
Good food good drinks menu but you do pay for the privilege
We always try and dine here when in London at least once, surprisingly good value for money and service is always excellent. Decor great now following the refurb a year or so ago.
Food was 5 star. Service was faultless. We were made to feel special and welcome.
Always a great place to eat, a menu to suit everyone!
I've been to the Ivy a few times and have always had a good time. The food is always good, just as you would expect, but not outstanding. The staff are always attentive, friendly and of course intentionally attractive.
Small portions, basic menu, baked Alaska made up for it yaay
London hotspot. It has the reputation for a reason! A must do!
Decor really nice, amazingly quite small inside. Had a nicely cooked and tasty battered haddock and chips. Shellfish Bisque really nice, my wife had crab and sweetcorn soup, and a really nice plaice dish. Staff very helpful and pleasant, ideal venue for our special 25th wedding anniversary meal in London. Nice selection of great wines. Classic high class restaurant, in great London location.
extremely snooty. service very cold and impersonal.
Good service. Shepherds pie was well cooked. But beware. Smaller than a childs portion. Mega expensive. I have been to much more expensive restaurants and never experienced such insulting sized portions. The broccoli was badly undercooked and could not cut it with a knife. Very poor
Visited for breakfast and really enjoyed it. Very historic building and good service.
Excellent as ever. Good food, reasonable prices and a lovely atmosphere.
Sat at the bar, good quick service, excellent starter, crispy pork belly was a flop, drink selection poor, what s wrong with a beer!!! Over priced
Recently taken there for my 70th birthday. As soon as you walked in the door the staff welcomed you. Food was excellent. Can not praise it enough. When my dessert came out the chef had written Happy Birthday on the plate. Such a nice touch. Would recommend the experience to anyone.
Great food and amazing staff. Good atmosphere for catching locals or celebrities.
Beautiful place, classic English menu with a twist and excellent wine. Very cosy and romantic.
Overpriced for oven chips!
Expected better.
Great steak and beef tartare. Perfectly seasoned. Attentive and prompt service. Were sat at the bar as we didn't have reservations. Overall very welcoming and had a nice lively ambiance.
Second time at the Ivy. Worth every Penny. Very attentive service. Great food. Great wine selection. We'll be back.
Very good moment with my Family, i love this place !
