The Hawaiian Humane Society Review

Was difficult to get a hold of someone after hours but they re admissions is open 24 hours if you happen to find an abandoned animal and it s safe to transport the animal to the humane society. Very helpful once I got there. Admissions is a little tricky to find. Definitely look at the map before driving there.

I went to see the dog but it was almost gone and adapted!

I think it s amazing!

However, with regard to cats, I was in a very small room with lots of people, so I was wondering what could happen.

I hope there is no stress for cats.

I did not want to enter.

I feel for all the animals that was there but I'm glad to see a lot of families coming to find their soon to be family pet

Always adopt, never shop! There are so many loving cats and dogs that need a great home! There's no good reason to pay hundreds of dollars for a pet when you can adopt one!

The client was crowded but the two people there were very calm and patient. They helped me put down our dog because she was beyond help. They were very caring. I think they handled the crazy situations thrown at them that day very professionally.

Great place to visit and find a pet. We found our cat there. She's a white long hair cat breed, 6 months old. Perfect for our family.
Go and visit. You can pet the animals there and it's free.

I always got my extended family here. Got my dog oreo. Cat lychee. My other cat chester. And more. Great helpful staff.i love saving a animal life. Love it here.

Over here waiting for it to open. Its past 11 and its not open. Workers need to hurry up. People waiting out here to get in. You open at 11 so there should be no excuse why its not open on time. Still waiting out here. And so are 10 of us.

They try really hard with the resources they have. Doibg an excellent job caring for the animals.

Very unprofessional!!,Their ways of reforming DOGS isn't quite right,after receiving 3 phone calls from them saying they had the dog of my choice there, I drove 28 miles,in a rush,to get there!!, each time,same story,sorry that dog got adopted!. I ended up buying a dog for 3,000.I tried their "ADOPT DON'T SHOP", IT DOESN'T WORK!!

We were looking to adopt a kitten there,looked on the web site and there was only one kitten to adopt. We were looking to adopt a kitten named Lani which was on their website a few days before we went in but unfortunately she was not for adoption? I was very disappointed,talked to one of the workers and they seem to not know anything about her at that point it was very disappointing cause I had just lost my cat his name was "Boo Boo"and Lani looked like my Boo Boo's sister.The worker explained to us that Lani was 1 month old and they do not adopt kittens until their 2mths old or at least 2lbs so they can be sprayed or neutered but still could not give anymore information about Lani we left feeling very unhappy.But as the weekend came we gotten up early and I checked their website and the was 1 kitten 2mths old a male his name was Chester. We were excited even thou he didn't look like our Boo Boo he was a tabby black and brown and the same age when I found my Boo Boo.We got there a little after 10 when they opened on Saturday and ther he was our newest member to our family.So all and all we did find our new baby boy kitten which I changed his name from Chester to Kolohe.I just wish there would have more kittens to adopt on their website and that they would be my informative about the kittens that they have in their Lost&Found, cause not everyone wants a adult cat which for a kittens was more suitable for us.That was really the only thing that I didn't give them 5stars because of the lack of kittens for adoption and know my in their Lost Found which had a lot.Who claims those kittens or what happens to them they say they put those for adoption but I haven't seen any of those kittens for adoption and some of them are 2 to 3 months some haves been admitted there since Feburary 2019,but there should be consistently on information on those animals in Lost & Found cause it could make a difference in someone life.

I rather adopt a new dog so I come here often. They are currently remodeling and I am hopeful for the new expansion. Parking is a little tight right now because of the construction and the dog park is currently closed.

One of the best animal Humane Societies I have ever been too. A lot of money went into making this campus and facility a special place for the animals in transition to new homes. The employees and volunteers are very kind and helpful. The layout is modern and very warm. It's a wonderful atmosphere and lots of fun! Go visit these precious animals and find a furry best friend!

Very impressive and well organized turning in a lost stray cat

I adopted a puppy from here back in December 2017 and the experience was great. I have since returned to try to get him a friend HOWEVER.. I have ran into one of the rudest people I have ever met. She will act as if you are a bother and that you don t exist. Her name is ASHLEY so if you have to deal with her good luck. I will no longer be going to this wonderful organization because of the treatment my wife and I have gotten. Someone should train the staff on the topic of body language and costumer service more often.

Went to go adopt 2 cockatiels on Wednesday. Staff was friendly and the adoption process was a breeze. My only complaint is that they told me the birds wings were clipped, which they weren't, and they also weren't clear on their backgrounds or genders (good thing I know how to tell). I wish that they had more info on the birds from the prior owners.

Great staff, we adopted our dog from them about 6 months ago. The family loves him, and when we picked him up he was very well taken care of. They allow you to take them for walks through a small park to see if the animal is a fit for you. We walked 7 or 8 dogs till we walked cat (yes we named him cat), it was an instant bond. The kids love him an he was a perfect fit for our family. Also to note they had a special that month you could adopt an animal for only $40. They also sent us home with a bag of food (hills science diet) that's what they feed all the animals.
Overall I'm greatly pleased with my experience, and I look forward to bringing my kids to volunteer on the weekends. I've included a bunch of pictures of cat. He goes with us almost everywhere!

If I could give them negative stars i would! If you find a stray or can't keep your pet anymore DO NOT BRING THEM HERE!!!!!! 9 times out of 10 they will EUTHANIZE them!! I brought a stray kitten here thinking I wouldn't be able to care for him but later decided I wanted to go back and adopt him, but they killed him immediately. They didn't even try to help him. I've heard the same story from AT LEAST 10 other people. There is NOTHING humane about this place! They are awful animal killing psychopaths!

Brought my dog in to be introduced to another rescue. Left us in a small area for dogs to get to know each other. It was obvious the dog was anxious. I was then told the baby had a "best friend" and it would be better if I adopted both! BAD!

I Love my dog! I've been together 12yrs & now I'm in a wheelchair! I will be going to A home and it's sad to know that if I put him Human Society if doesn't get adopted he will put to sleep! I don't have much options to have! I know this is a shelter but after only 1wk he would put to sleep.

My family come and visit all the time but failed to adopt anything more than our pet rabbit Max. This place is clean and organize. Plenty of volunteers to care for the pets. My wife and I are "plant people" and less of "pet people" Our children are plant/pet little people. We just wish they learn to pick up the dog poop and learn to walk them consistently. Then we can let these pet little people to have their pet (dog). Keep up the good work, HHS!

I very much love going to the Hawaii's Humane Society. It's a really nice and clean and the crew are the best. They have a variety of animals there. Lots of off street parking. Right on the bus line which is nice. Can't have a pet where I live but I'm able to go and find a friend to walk and play with. Beautiful place.

They have new and improved cat and dog centers. I'm still bummed that they took the dog park out.

I like visiting but I learned that they kill kittens too young for adoption.

I have had experienced very negative impact years ago when this woman Mary Tashiro....
had lied to police about me, after my golden retriever was stolen and I was as courteous as I needed their help. Isn't it how you never forget names from 9, 10 yrs ago? How can anyone falsify a police report and the police not care about it. I was trespassed from her falsifying reports saying that I pounced on their windows trying to get their attention. Common sense would be to be courteous and maybe they'll help me the best they could. That's exactly how I reacted after she came to work very early in the morning, asking for her help. I only needed to know or be convinced that they had nothing to do with Brandy disappearance. Because of their actions, all along I thought they had been incolved, knowing of Brandy's whereabouts. In the end, after 6 months had gone by, they had nothing to do with Brandy's disappearance. I did get her back from a phone call after posting colored posters around the whole Island. Subsequently, the Hawaiian Humane Society had been GREAT in or with returning my Brandy after an unusual occurrence. My thoughts of the Hawaiian Humane Society is that we really need them. It's not easy what they do there. Not easy at all......so I will continue to donate as it's been awhile but I always keep their mail....Gary and Brandy 2 of Kaneohe

Got my dogs new license, everyone there was fawning all other her. My friend used to foster for them and I wish we could too, but our home is too small XD

Absolutely awesome visit...we ended up adopting one of the dogs and so did our auntie . the staff was so sweet and caring .

I get a cup of coffee and a dessert across the street and hang out and pet the cats in the cat house and visit and it's the best cheapest date ever I enjoy spending time at the Humane Society I also donate any used blankets recycle my bottles and cans through them they appreciate the donation

Staff was very friendly. Clean . I appreciate them being available during hard times.

The facility is fairly clean, and the animals look well kept. The parking is limited, and you may have to wait awhile when busy.

My personal experience with this organization has been an odd one, I have never adopted an animal, but as a stressed student I have come here to relieve my stress and play with cute animals. This place is HANDS DOWN the best place to meet your animal soulmate, every time I leave this place without adopting I feel like I am missing out on meeting the love of my life.

Friendly staff who appear to care about the animals. High turnaround with the animals, which is nice. They also keep their website very up to date.

Well if you are looking for a for a dog this is the worst place to go they label each and every dog as a pit mix and make you jump through a million hoops to let you adopt. While I dont think that's a bad thing that they do that to make sure you they go to a good home, the way they go about it is wrong. The animals are covered in their own waste most of the time and are skinny enough to see their ribs. Its astounding when you feel like you need to rescue animals from an animal rescue. Shut this puppy prison down!

My girlfriend and I stopped by to check out kittens and the volunteers and employees are very helpful with any questions we had! We even got to play with a dog! When we're ready, we will adopt from there!

The pets were in clean quarters, with lots of food, love, and attention. The staff seemed very well versed in all of the animals there. If it's possible, I would've adopted cute little Einstein.

I was looking for affordable spay - neuter services. I found a feral kitten, and want to get him neutered. Great price for that and shots $60!! Booked it right then and there!

The place just gives me the feeling that you just take your dog to get euthanized.

This place is so clean and spacious...just wasn't happy that I couldn't find what I'm looking for...

Very helpful staff, many volunteers. REGISTER your pets ID chip. Well worth cost for outdoor pets. My only issue is that this IS A KILL shelter. Best vet is blue cross animal care on kapiolani. CHIP UR PET & HAVE IT REGISTERED!

They helped us with. Dog food during a trying time and are so grateful that they are even exist. Thank you for your kindness and smiles as well

I had 1 cat taken and her incision was perfect and so small (like the size of a pinky nail and she was able to healed so quick). I took my second cat thinking it was gonna be the same exact thing when I got her back there was a messy incision and suture. It just looks hideous and so painful. Definitely got a sloppy surgeon and I am extremely upset, my cat did not deserve such a bad experience. The cut is the size of a dollar coin?!

If they could obviously of done a better job on my cat I expected nothing less.

Very clean and friendly! I adopted my love from here. She was clean with no ticks or fleas! I love that they take such good care of the animals and give you a career and bag of food and toy for you animal when adopting. They also call to check to make sure everything is good and that your fur baby is fitting right in. They give you 30 days full refund which I think is neat if things do not work out. They just want to make sure the animals are being cared for and that they are adjust and if not bring them back so they can still have chance to a new home. They really care here and are understanding with your questions and needs. They are fair priced because the proceeds go to their shots and care. Also they are fixed before you take a fur baby home and they are pre-cared for by the vet. You also get a free visit to the vet when you adopt. Call them with any questions!

The place is great plenty of animals to choose from. But some of the staff really aren't very nice. Ashely is kinda rude, and so is another blonde. They gave me dirty looks not sure why? And Ashely has a nasty attitude like she hates her job:( Customer service isn't for everyone sadly.But everything else was perfect! Found my fur baby and the kids love him!

Nice set up, but called ahead to verify bunny was there. I was told twice if it s on the website then it s here lady was very rude and no help. Drove all the way here just to be told that he is not here after we already called and asked twice!!!

The Hawaiian humane society is a joke. My mother has called them multiple times about neighbors beating their puppies and they don't do anything. No way would this fly in the mainland. They really need to step it up with animal cruelty that goes on in Hawaii

Adopted both my pets from here. They need support to keep helping our furry friends
