Overall, this place is great! This is the nicest facility for animals that I have ever been to and it seems like a lot of the volunteers are really passionate about animals. On the other hand, they don't seem "people friendly" and most of the times that I have gone in they have either been rude or ignored me completely. Also, there have been a few times that I have visited to play with the cats in the cat house and there have been 2 or 3 volunteers sitting in the room, but instead of petting the cats or playing with them they are texting or playing games on their phone when people have been waiting to see the cats for at least 20 minutes but can't because there is a 4 person limit to each room. That is very frustrating.

I always have issues with this humane society. Although I havent proved it I think there's a good chance that they killed my cat that was reported lost. Ended up adopting another cat while looking for my cat cause they were gonna put him down stating he was unsociable. Have had keala now for 3 years. I also had another incident where I found a cat and they said if nobody claimed him in 30 days that i was to turn him in to them and after 7 days if no one claimed him I could pay them $100 to take him home. Like what.... kinda shady if you ask me

Only reason for the four stars is the difficulty of the appointment process during this pandemic

Once you're in, the staff is BEYOND fabulous. Brooke was amazing while working with us. We even got to spend a couple minutes checking out the dog that we wanted and she was an instant hit.

Another staffer, Kess, checked on is the following day.

This is our second dog from HHS and we are extremely happy with our pup.

We made a mistake in turning in our most beloved dog two days ago because we were misinformed about the house that we bought in Las Vegas. After discovering that we could take her (the dog) with us, we immediately drove to the Humane Society in the hope that we could bring her home. When we got there, we were told that she is not in the shelter anymore and that they cannot disclose any information. They could not even tell us whether or not she is alive and well. We are deeply asking for anyone's assistance. PLEASE. WE WANT HER BACK AND IT WAS OUR MISTAKE TO LEAVE HER IN HUMANE SOCIETY. At least tell us that she's alive. I understand that they cannot disclose any information and we signed the statement that they can do whatever they want with our dog, but please please help us!

Highly recommended. If we could adopt all of the animals here we could. It's such a challenge to go home without adopting one of these fortunate pets. Thank you Hawaii Humane Society for providing opportunities for families and pets alike.

Beautiful building with kind souls working within and plenty of sweet animals in need of a new home as well. It's one of the best humane societies I've worked with in terms of foster care.

B'cuz they're a no kill shelter now. They Help me all the time. I live right behind them. Only one little quirk is the dogs barking 24/7 sometimes. I think it's b'cuz someone probably had it as a pet & when they get tired of the dog or some military don't want to take them when their duty here in Hawaii is up so they leave it at the humane society. So Damn sad. If you're not going to keep a animal for like then you don't deserve to have one. But these crying dogs are scared, lonely & feel abandoned. So I don't let the barking or crying bother me.

Any place taking in animals that deserve a second ...

Any place taking in animals that deserve a second chance gets a 5 in my book! Their grounds were amazingly set up! Travel to little out buildings with different dogs was awesome. Their kitty section was awesome because they got these cool sections where you can play and interact with them instead of just looking through a cage. The dogs seemed like they were well taken care of and many got the chance to go in bigger spaces and play. Lots of volunteers taking them for walks and even people searching for their future pup got the chance to take them out. I feel like there were some dogs really not getting some attention which looked like a pit bull area which made me sad. Maybe more attention and interaction would benefit them as they looked very down and it was a whole different atmosphere in there. Still 5 stars. Their lost and found area assistance was great too! Make sure pets are registered with you and have them chipped to always know they can come back to you!

Really "Humane" Society, your solution to stray/fe...

Really "Humane" Society, your solution to stray/feral cats is to not feed them? How about you reduce the fee ($50) that us feeders pay to spay/neuter cats, a number of which are domestic dumps, and maybe relax that $25 " boarding fee" I pay for dropping a cat off an hour early, before 10:30 pm. Also, I love the way one cat I brought in to fix, almost didn't get fixed because I brought it in the night before, paid the extra boarding fee, neuter/spay fee, and you called me the next morning to pick it up, even though no surgery was performed. Of course, that's still better than the $50 fee I paid for the kitty that died during surgery and upon pick up of my cat trap, the newspaper was left in and I could see her final claw marks on the paper. Awful, why don't you educate the community on not dumping their domestic cats and utilizing trap, neuter, rekease, and manage, for the cats that are here that are a result of unfixed domestic dumps. I'm sure your media specialist gets paid enough.

Their are also chickens roaming the area, which is why I shared the photo below!

Please if you are wanting a pet adopt from here. Good adoption prices with specials going frequently.

Got our pup here he was the 10 weeks old and is my wife's best friend. The staff was awesome, the walked us through puppy shot requirements (we've always adopted older dogs) and even gave us a list of vets since we are new to the island.

I'll start by saying that I'm a little biased... I recently went adopted a dog and he may be the perfect pooch... Everyone there was super helpful and while the whole process was super easy, they seemed to ask the right questions, and definitely showed a general concern with the dogs well being and future, which I appreciate very much. Place was well kept and upon adoption they gave me all the medical records they had, a sample bag if dog food, and a goody bag with toys! I'll also admit that I was pleased to find the adoption fee was under a hundred bucks. I think it's terrible that a lot of places would rather euthanize an animal than accept anything under $200-$500! This place truly seems to hold the health, happiness and well being of the animals in their care in very high regard.

Every time we go there for whatever reason these people are always incredibly kind, courteous, knowledgable and genuinely helpful. Last sunday my wife was horrified when a neighbors off leash german sheppard jumped on her in a public park area, the third incident of this type. We called the police. they did nothing helpful and begrudgingly made a report taking sides with the serial assailent who believes they are above Hawaii Dog Leash Law which applies in all public places. When we went to HHS they knew exactly what we should do and have a system in place for this kind of problem. Their advice was very effective.

I love the work the humane society does. It's an invaluable resource to the community, and a life line to so many animals who need immediate help and rescue from awful situations. As well as maybe the only way these animals can receive medical attention and placement w loving Foster's and forever homes. Thank you for all your hard work Humane Society! Ur a blessing from God!

Loved the new adoption pens they have now. Place is clean and volunteers are very friendly. I only wish that there was a wait list to be put on if any puppies were to come to the shelter at least I would be able know when they are available.

We adopted a kitten and was referred by a feral cat person, to have the cat fixed. When we got there we requested not to notch the ear because the cat was now a house cat. They told us they don't make exceptions anymore they just do it. My daughter started crying because the cat would not look cute anymore. GREAT JOB HUMANE SOC. No donations from us anymore! Attitude!

Adopted a dog here and had a great experience. The prices are a lot cheaper than buying a dog from a breeder and you save an animal. If you find your perfect animal you'll be in and out within an hour .

We decided to take a look at the dogs here to see if we clicked with any of the pups here. Its been ages since I last came here and it looked like they updated and re-did a lot of things.

They have the animals separated into different areas. The dogs are kept in their own area where they can have some room to come out and play so you can get a better idea of how the dogs act. You can request to walk the dogs in the little path they have built inside to see how they are on a leash.

The cat area you can go into the different rooms to play and interact with the cats so they can suck you in with their cuteness!!!

They also have birds, fish, turtles, rabbits... if its a house pet, they probably have it here.

I don't know anything about their adoption program because we didn't utilize it.

All the animals here looked very clean and well kept and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Took my fur baby Simba to get nurtured and they made me feel secured that my cat would be taken cared of. I dropped him off as the website said for Free Roaming Cats early morning and picked him up by 5:30pm. He got a microchip which I was able to register online and even a FVCR vaccine. I'm very happy with the outcome and would definitely recommend to all animal owners and lovers!

My cousin's wife adopted a rescue dog from Hawaii ...

My cousin's wife adopted a rescue dog from Hawaii Humane Society in March of this year, and it has biteen a blessing to have him.
He has become a part of our family.
He is very lovable, and cute. We lLOVE HIM DEARLY AND HE BRINGS US LOTS OF JOY and HAPPINESS INTO OUR LIVES.
We knew that he was the kind of dog we wanted to adopt. He was so cute and he jumped on the bench and sat down on my lap and
he was so calm and just sat.
That day we afopted him and we are so glad and happy.
Thanks to the staff at the Hawaii Humane Society for all that they do
for all the animals that they rescue and take in and care for.
Also thank you for all that you do for community too! We appreciate it very much

Major upgrades have been done since I last went to the humane society. For one they have 2 new dog pens which are House blue and House Green for Dogs. These pens are small but they are appropriate for the size of the facility. The dogs seem happy and you are able to get a good look at them. Keep checking their online site to get a better gauge as to whether or not make the drive down here because people are constantly going and if you live anywhere else besides town side the journey is quite long.

I had to euthanize my old buddy and I was met with professional and compassionate service,I usually watch there site to see what dogs are up for adoption and have noticed for probably a good 2 weeks or so whoever is now in charge of taking photos for the dogs is doing a great job as prior to this it seemed as though the pictures posted was and after thought and very much rushed .I would highly recommend picking up your new best buddy from here or any other rescue organization on this island but would suggest that you educate yourself with knowledge related to said pet you would like to get beforehand to one provide the best quality of life you can offer and secondly aren t stuck with a little monster because you chose a pet based on its looks rather than it s compatibility with you and what you can handle.
