Great place to experience the upscale part of Oslo. Try the lively lobby even if you don't stay at the hotel. The cakes and cocktails are wonderful but pricey as many other trendy place at the heart of Oslo.

An old traditional hotel where stars and Nobel laureates spent their nights. Why not 5 * from me? Because of the strongly outdated facility, which is partly absurdly planned. Room without safe (changed) other room safe in two meters height, my wife does not come up I (189 cm) do not see until completely pure. The bed in our room is so soft that you can walk through, in the other room it fits. Room style impractical. If all this does not bother: clear recommendation and 5 * !!! Service very friendly, breakfast especially good. Central location to almost all, which is important. So weigh yourself.

Addendum: fire alarm! Exemplary and chaos settled, Congratulations to the trained staff. In the end, it was probably nothing big, but that does not change anything.

Very classy, very stylish with old world charm. Arrived on a saturday afternoon and the lobby, bar and restarant were all buzzing with great atmosphere. We had a few cocktails at the bar and the service was impeccable, the bar tenders were warm with a lot of character. The rooms are very nice, not very big but makes up for it in comfort. Everyone at the hotel is freindly and attentive. Location is perfect for pretty much everything. Highly recommend this place to stay or even for an afternoon tea or cocktail.

Good food, drinks and service. We did "medium plates" - they are served one at a time with a bit of a pause between them. Three medium plates and a couple of oysters each was about the perfect amount. It is pretty pricy, but if that's your redirection going in, it's a good meal. (I'm not sure how expensive this is by Norwegian standards, most restaurants we have been in so far seem a bit more expensive than we are used to.) All of the staff was friendly and we never were in need of anything.

LOVELY wireless. Possibly a little expensive in most other places in the center of Oslo, but here is one of the best hotels in the capital. Great food, good drink, clean, spacious, good staff, top location.

Beautiful hotel, old building all redone. Spacious and comfortable room. One downside, the bathtub deserves to be a bit bigger. But because of the overall charm this is not really a problem. To advise without hesitation.

The best hotel in Oslo - and quite expensive. Lots of history and a wonderful breakfast buffet. There were a couple of things that were not ok, given what we paid: We were frequently bothered significantly by a slamming service door - late at night as well as early morning - sometimes waking us up. Additionally, maid service got to our room after 4pm several days. I don't know the routine of other people, but we typically go sightseeing from early morning until a bit after mid afternoon, after which we like to relax a bit and freshen up before dinner - it would have been nice if our rooms had been attended to during the approximately 7 hours we were out.

Booked 3 rooms:

Booked 3 rooms:
2-x standard for the kids and relatives
1-x superior (around 150 more compared to standard) for myself.

Standard room was very nice, very clean and spacy room with bath included.

DONT TAKE THE SUPERIOR ROOM AS IT IS NOT SUPERIOR AT ALL!
Superior room was WORSE than the standard room with the only difference that the view is located to the main square.
Very disappointed that I've had to pay 150 euro more for an old room with VERY, VERY old and small shower instead of bath. Instead of compensation, only solution provided is take another hotel room for 900 / night.....

Beds on both rooms are not my type, way too soft

Spa included only during the weekdays until 4 PM, additional charge of 30 per person(!) if the guests want to use this facility during the weekend or after 4PM.

It was an unpleasant experience in this hotel.

great it is from the best hotels in Oslo

great it is from the best hotels in Oslo

everything 8s close to you public tram and trains and close to grea5 shops around you restaurants coffee shops

easy to go to anywhere in the city

The hotel has an excellent location in the city

Hawlak, all services, city center, trains, trams, and public transport, which facilitate transportation

All you need is near the hotel, beautiful public squares, shopping, restaurants and other services

For me, it is one of the best Oslo hotels

The outside of the hotel is crowded with the large number of people because it is the center of the city

The service is excellent and the staffs are efficient

I thank everybody

Highly overrated. Just plain bad onion soup appetizer-advertised with cheese-none found. Heavy handed salmon sauce overpowered fish.

Large dining area somewhat noisy, large and open with no intimacy.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Was amazing value for what is clearly an old and majestic grand hotel. Large sweeping staircases, great breakfast selection and large spacious room. Great location too at the centre of town. Will come back

The Grand Hotel is an excellent hotel with very minimal issues.

The Room

My wife wrote in the booking form that we wished if possible to be on one of the higher floors, to our nice surprise we ended up on the top floor, which we were happy for as the last hotel we stayed up we ended up on the bottom floor.

The room was very spacious and comfortable. Lovely carpeting and furnishings, certainly great quality, which one would expect for the price.

The only thing I would have to say regarding the room is the difficulty we had with understanding the temperature situation. Generally in hotels there will be a main point from where you can control the temperature of the room, instead we found out that we had to turn on the two small radiators that were located in the back of the room.

The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept very well.

The Staff

The staff were very polite and helpful, we didn't have much interaction with the staff, but when we did it was pleasant.

One exceptional account was from one of the bar men who was very helpful, chatty and welcoming, certainly made the experience at the bar.

One negative we experienced actually came from what I'd like to call the 'door-situation'. There appears to be no fixed doorman (a doorman is present at almost random times throughout the day) and this causes a slight issue in busy times, people are generally confused about who should go through the door first. I actually ended up to hold open the door and directed people through the doors like some sort of traffic control officer, fortunately a member of hotel staff (not a designated doorman) eventually took notice and offered to take the door from me. This is really the major issue as to why my review won't be giving 5 stars.

Breakfast

The restaurant in general is excellent, speaking for quality. The quality of the food is good but it could be better.

The food is kept just above lukewarm which isn't the best, but the taste is good. If I were to compare against Hotel Bristol I would have to give the points over to Bristol, simply because the food was warmer and the quality was noticeably higher than at the Grand.

The selection for breakfast and the atmosphere in the restaurant is fantastic.

Every aspect of the stay was nice. The only thing slightly odd was, when I checked in the front desk announced that I have been upgraded. When we got to the room it was one of the smallest I have ever stayed in. Would be interested to see what I was upgraded from!

Stunning! Clean...luxurious and outstanding in almost every way. Personally I prefer small hotels...and I did get slightly lost on my trek to my room but honestly didn't care when we got to our room. Totally ace! Even down to the nice little touches of high end hand and face creams to protect against the harsh Oslo winds.

We stayed for 2 nights with my wife and our 4-month baby. We paid 600 per night for a suite. Everything seemed well until we were rejected from the rooftop bar for the only reason we came with a sleepy baby ! There were many seats available including isolated one where we couldn t bother other guests. and it was only 8pm. We just wanted to have a drink before dinner. The bar tender gave several unjustified answers including that it was forbidden for minors to drink alcohol !! You should be ashamed at Grand Hotel to reject your own clients for the only reason they have kids. Avoid that place if you travel with children.
