Good food, but the waitress needed training in basics - checking in, getting items asked for, filling water glasses, etc.

By far my favorite place to go downtown. Amazing customer service ranging from a quick stop in for lunch, a happy hour drink upstairs, and late night dinner and drinks downstairs. The downstairs venue is amazing! Best sound system downtown and all sorts of variety for shows and events. And if you re lucky, hopefully you ll even get to have a conversation with the owner Paul (one of the chillest and nicest dudes you ll ever meet!). The Pony is truly a gem to downtown Harrisonburg.
One of my favs. Staff is great. I did spend more money on beer one time as it was happy hour for drafts and some of the featured beers appeared to be on the draft menu. I was dumb about this but it left a bad taste in my mouth as I didn't get any bill reduction. Maybe I'm being unfair, idk.
Recently played here with my band and had a great time a really great two level space friendly staff and a great sound system can't wait to play there again
Very nice location the staff were courteous and the pizza was terrific!
Awful. Dont waste your time. Disgusting in everyway.
Ive been to atleast 100 casinos across the country....this byfar my favorite. Execellent Food...and i always leave with money in my pocket
Cool local spot we hit while passing through on our way to Tennessee from Pennsylvania. Loved the Outsiders theme. Good wings, excellent service, even for a late night stop for a couple beers. We had just missed the band, but live music is usually a plus in my book.
Great food,Great drinks, Great people, and a Great place to see original ground breaking musical artists!!!
Great place to hangout and grab some food and drinks
Love their patio
Order pizza fot take out ...
absolutely delicious...
Awesome night life!! Haven't eaten here yet though.
Good food, great atmosphere! Probably the best patio in town.
Quality food and beer. Happy hours are half price draft beer and starters. Quality service as well!
Drinks are reasonably priced, there's a wide selection of food that is absolutely delicious, and the service is fantastic! Easily my favorite bar in town.
Excellent food! friendly atmosphere and great music! The menu has everything from waffles to nachos, pizza to brunch, AMAZING burgers, and lots of vegan options and great salads too. they have pinball machines upstairs, and the down stairs is a really nice venue that puts on all kinds of music. there's something for everyone here and I feel like that's what makes this place truly one of a kind, a real taste of Harrisonburg. I would recommend this spot to any of my family or friends.
Just quit lying to yourself and go for the cinnamon bun waffle...
quite underrated and only getting better. Food is always excellent and there's always something going on downstairs for just about everybody.
This is one of my favorite bars in downtown harrisonburg! The cover is more expensive, but that is only for the downstairs. The raised price is for live music which is such a better experience than other bars. Also the bartenders are 10x better than anywhere else around
We showed up and were told there was a 25 minute wait. 40 minutes later, the hostess came up to us and said that we could be seated, but would not be able to order food for another 30 minutes. Extremely poorly managed. Would not recommend and will never return
Very much a college bar, but their theme nights can be good. Reason for 4 stars: Went to Latin Night and had a good time, however it didn't start until 10:30pm and they were playing 50s music beforehand. Weird transition. Had to kind of wait around. Only had 2 bartenders so it took a while to get drinks. I liked that they had an outside area with seating and tables since it got pretty hot inside.
Get the Frida Kale-o pizza, you won't regret it. Just make sure to grab some toothpicks afterward.
Good brunch spot. Get a mimosa, huevos rancheros, and settle in with friends on a lazy Sunday.
This spot is a local and hidden gem. I am very impressed with the quality of food in regards to pricing. This place is one of the only restaurants open early enough on a Sunday morning (9am), which is very convenient for early morning travelers, like myself. The house staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu.
Wade is an awesome bouncer and one good looking man!
Brunch was the worst! Menu stated for the Big breakfast 2 eggs, hash browns and either bacon or biscuit with sausage gravy. So our party orders this with the biscuit and sausage gravy and not the bacon. The waitress comes out with the meal with bacon and biscuit with sasage gravy and an additional BISCUIT WITH SAUSAGE GRAVY!!! Hello did the waitress not hear correctly? She could have replied when we ordered that if we wanted an additional biscuit with the sausage gravy? We aren't fat people and don't eat like that. Coffee was luke warm on every fill up. Hot water for tea was the same. Food was warm, not hot and just gross. May be a great place for drinks and such but go elsewhere for brunch, wish we had done so. Kinda hard to mess up brunch!
This is a great family place and a great value! The menu offers plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. There is a bar and live music downstairs, which we did not visit. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, as was the staff. Our server was outstanding, warm, friendly and knowledgeable.
We had the Nile Nachos and mozzarella sticks for appetizers. The mozzarella sticks were super melty and fabulously crispy. And the marinara was seriously world class. The chips for the nachos were homemade and so deliciously crisp with a satisfying texture and were perfectly seasoned. The wat sauce was so good! The jalapenos even tasted home pickled or were at least top shelf commercial.
We had the personal pizza, the Smokey Robinson burger, the PonyBoy burger and the cheese steak which they cheerfully made vegetarian for me by subbing sliced tofu for the steak. All of us had our eyes roll back in our heads from the delicious, fresh quality ingredients, and love that went into everything that came out of the kitchen. And if your sandwich comes with chips, you can get fries for just a dollar more and I'd definitely recommend that you do! They were hand cut, expertly fried and perfectly seasoned. We could have eaten a tubful of those little bits of perfection!! And the pickles, which also tasted homemade were the bomb!
The service was exemplary and anticipatory. Before the drinks ran dry, our server appeared with refills. And she asked all the right questions so that we had exactly what we needed. The portions were ample, the food super fresh and well-made, and the prices were very reasonable- about $68 for the four of us, 2 appetizers and four entrees. Go, visit, eat, you will absolutely love it. It's won a place in our family's rotation. We already can't wait for our next visit!
Music, great food, nice servers, fun night! I'll be back golden pony!
Nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. The food is quite tasty (try the Big Bukowski pizza) and the coffee is also really good. It's a great place to do lunch in downtown Harrisonburg.
A dive bar with class. Come here in a beard and flannel or a white button up and blazer. Great live acts too
They only bringing the best bands like crowbar and obituary
Cool. Rock n roll. Seems like they are making space for people to be creative. Like maybe pre CBGB. (Not sure what makes the difference.) But cool nonetheless. I saw "Sagittarius Rucker". Cool band.
Cozy place, i love it, full of college/University students. Chicken wings were very yummy
Great music venue, great vibes and wonderful owner!
This place is awesome! I absolutely love it. The service was perfect as was the food. The price was very reasonable also. I can't wait to go back. It won't be long. FUN ATMOSPHERE!!!
Never got to try the food but horrible first impression! My Duke and I arrived about 10 minutes after opening to find a completely empty restaurant and no staff in sight. After calling out a few times, I noticed someone in the kitchen. It took a few more attempts to get her attention. Finally, yawning, she disinterestedly asked if we wanted a table. Answering affirmatively she responded, "Sit wherever." So we did...at another restaurant!
One of the better local hangouts. Surprisingly good wings.
Good food but not very fast service due to the fact that there was 1 waitress and 1 bartender for the whole dinning area
Great venue, not many support the metal scene but these folks do.
They got Coors banquet in a can so the only thing killing five stars is the bathroom and bar take a minute to access. ;)
Over all a great place when they play your jam.
This was not our first choice for brunch but we were pleasantly surprised! The breakfast burrito was really good, and the service was great!
If I could give 4.5 stars, I would. The food (during happy hour) was extremely reasonable (cheap) and served piping hot. The reason it isn't a 5 star review is the building itself (and the restrooms) need a bit of a heavy duty cleaning...but, hey, it's a bar...if late enough at night and the alcohol is flowing, you won't even notice. Live music is "downstairs" so it is comfortable to hear conversations upstairs.
If you are a traveler just stopping through town for brunch, this is not the place to go. Service was so slow we contemplated leaving, and the music was too loud and rough for a Sunday morning.
Charged my boyfriend's card twice. Yesterday with the tip included and today without the tip included. Was told that it should go away and it is just an initial charge. Still hasn't gone away and he paid double for what he did owe. No help at all from these people.
Very low key. Reasonable drink and food prices with occasional live music. Good for college students and locals alike.
The art on the walls is awesome and the food tasted great. Overall it was a nice place to grab a bite to eat.
Good food and great environment. Make sure you ask for Alma! She is always on top of the game and will take care of you.
It was clean nice crowd staff was a little slow with the drinks but other than that it was good live music
Nice small venue for live music, with free parking nearby.
This was me and my wifes first time going and it was alot of fun, good music, good drinks. We will definitely be coming back.

I like their food quite a bit. Their pico is so refreshing to have in the morning.
Good pizza and great salads. Wide selection of music in the downstairs venue.
First time coming here, I was so surprised at the amount of vegan options they had and the food was delicious, too!
Great music night and food as well. Came for the music but also had drinks and a late dinner beforehand. Chorizo Tacos were awesome. Bands downstairs were great. Fathom Farewell, Disposed Kings and No Hope played. Good time was had and it's great that The Golden Pony offers a venue for these bands.
Great restaurant and bar that hosts live music frequently as well as other shows. All their drinks are priced reasonably. Personally I haven't gotten their food but I've heard their brunch and other dishes are great. Staff is very helpful and got my orders out quickly. Overall, the restaurant is kept very clean.
Beast place to chill, the music is good, the vibe is chill, and they have a pretty good alcohol selection. A little pricey but ayyy if you're looking for a good time the pony is the place to be on a Saturday night. Definitely a 5 star place to me.
Food is tasty and affordable while the night scene is one of the best in town!
The Pony is a great venue for live music, with good food at reasonable prices. They have frequent special events, worth checking the Facebook page to discover what's going on. A very cool downtown spot.
Both "Kristen" and "James" are such obvious fakes or employee/marketing just read that dribble. I should have looked the reviews over before going. The two 5 star in the summary looked good until I went. Great name scetchy food, bad service. Please what for the next resturant at this location before trying
The Golden Pony is the best place in Harrisonburg to grab a beer at Happy Hour, and get some reasonably priced grub. It's also a fantastic music venue with live bands 4-5 days a week, and DJ's dishing out dancy tunes into the wee hours on the weekends.
If you like live music The Golden Pony is the place to be! It's got everything you could ever want.
This restuarant/bar offered great music and amazing food. They seem to specialize in vegan, vegetarian and just good food.
Great food! Vegetarian & vegan options clearly marked. Waitress was FANTASTIC! Outdoor seating & indoor. Tables, small booths, big booths, a bar. Beer on tap. No many TVs except for the bar, which is a big benefit, IMO. Prices fair. Parking on street. Clean restrooms. Zero wait for a table.
Really attractive venue, but the nightlife is subpar.
It's really easy to see from the road in normal traffic, there's plenty of easy to find parking available. There's live music downstairs and two back patios. The sound is great, Steel really knows what he's doing. Tucker was a great bartender, and he took really good care of us. We had a very pleasant time, and look forward to returning. Also, the pizza was delicious. The crust was seasoned! So good.
VERY slow service even though place was empty. Got drinks wrong and by the time they came, we decided to go somewhere else downtown. Drank and left.
Our waitress kinda sucked while we were upstairs, but when we went downstairs for the show it was an awesome venue and some great bartenders.
