Lovely setting and impressive room and features but the menu and service were a little underwhelming. Food tasted great and presented well, the staff were polite and friendly if a little distracted or rushed. Just expected more from a Marcus Wareing restaurant and for this price. Have had much more impressive and memorable experiences for less at restaurants without a famous chef attached to it.

Does more than live up to its name. Who wants to enter new culinary territory or go on a taste discovery tour, is just right - Master Chef sends greetings. The waitress buzzes like bees around you and is still inconspicuous.

Nice service in a very welcoming but opulent environment.

All of the drinks we had were well made and balanced, original cocktails.

Afternoon tea, as expected, well presented and generous.

The prices are a little on the steep side. This is premium but not "premium, premium" if that makes any sense.

So beautiful, decadent and indulgent.

So beautiful, decadent and indulgent.

Sadly I've not got a chance to eat here yet, but having popped in for drinks a number of times, I'd highly recommend it.

Part of the huge St Pancras refurb of a few years ago, the bar feels incredibly classy and opulent without being stuffy or pretentious.

The wine list is great, beer selection is limited and overpriced, but service and staff are fantastic. The burnt butter popcorn is pretty special too, so make sure you ask for it if a waiter doesn't automatically bring you some.

When you're ready to leave, go through the Renaissance Hotel and get a cheeky snap of you doing the Spice Girls Wannabe dance poses. The girls filmed the music video here and you'll instantly recognise the beautiful staircase when you pass it.

Wonderful setting, good menu but some way to go. I was a guest here today for lunch. Starters really were excellent, crab, scallops and tagliatelle. All great.
Mains arrived and were cold, the in fact so cold, you could hardly get a spoon into potato dauphinois! This happens, I get it, busy restaurant and all that. What happened next was stuff of a black & white comedy film!
The waiter very graciously removed all food and ten minutes or so later back it came. When I say it came back, it really did. The very same food, just re- heated. I know this because I took a small square out of the middle of my plaice and there it was, back again. Re-heated but with missing bite filled with capers, as if I wouldn t notice!! On checking with the senior waiter we were assured that all food was re-prepared fresh. Well apparently not.
The first time round the food was tasty, but cold. The second time round it was unsurprisingly dry and somewhat less tasty. Still, they tried, so on we go.
Dessert. On the house, thank you! Plumb crumble. Yep, you guessed it, tepid at best! After the main course, how on earth was this allowed to happen. Back it went, more apologies and out it came again but this time hit. Well done.
After a discussion they were somewhat persuaded to buy us a bottle of wine. We d been drinking a very reasonable Sancerre so we accepted their offer and that could have been the end of that. Horrific fail when instead of then serving us a further bottle of what we had chosen and paid for, they decided that the wine on the house would be their cheapest bottle.
Absolutely unreal behaviour, one error, well corrected could result in such great appreciation but two cold course and then to cheapskate on the consolation prize wine.... Poor show.
Nice venue, shame about the approach.

No less than 5 stars for this incredible venue. Amazing, generous drinks, incredible set menu which really delivers, service which puts one at ease despite the fabulously fancy pants interior. Even the toilets were great!

I won t bother going into details about the food, but the service at the start of our meal was very disappointing. We made a reservation for the Christmas day dinner at 6pm. It seemed like something went wrong from our check in. We got there on time but they made us wait 15 minutes to set up our table. We had to ask for our coats to be checked in because no one offered.

When we got to our seats, it seemed that no server was assigned to our table. We sat for 15 minutes without anyone attending to us and did not even receive the set menu. The table beside us had come in later and was being taken care of. I actually had to ask for the menu myself from someone serving drinks. By 6:40, we still had no one taking care of our table. We stopped a server to inform him of the situation and only then he made sure that our table was not completely invisible. I appreciate that he took care of this and gave us complementary glasses of champagne to apologize but it was frustrating and extremely disappointing to experience this for a special Christmas dinner. It s not so nice to reserve a 5 course dinner with prepayment only to find yourself asking for service after being ignored for 40 minutes.

I liked it so much, I came back!
Now I ordered something different, fish, chicken liver, French fries cooked to perfection, mushrooms that are the best in Europe, I love that flavor. Main course, a delicious cut!

Super recommended champagne that make it special for the restaurant.

Lovely dining room and delightful bars with welcoming and friendly reception staff. Not so good when we got into the dining room. Had to ask for the set menu which wasn t initially offered and then ask for the glass of cava included with it.
The set menu seems like a good deal but lots of supplements and additional costs for side orders. The sea bream came with Jerusalem artichokes which were full of substantial pieces of grit. When the waiter was alerted to this he didn t offer to replace the main course or any reduction in cost. We were instead offered additional puddings which no one wanted as puddings were already included.
Its a shame as we liked the venue but I doubt we would eat here again as we all value our teeth.

Lovely architecture, quiet atmosphere, comfortable seating, attentive staff, interesting menu (rib steak with marrow bone to share is perhaps a bit salty), definitely coming back. Nice but expensive rum list. Fiancee preferred the Spice Girls staircase :-)

Dining room was fairly empty for a late morning Sunday brunch. Crumpets and golden syrup butter were fairly standard, but the OJ was fantastic. Staff had an air of "rabbit in headlights" about them - slightly scared and jumpy. Good if you like your brunch washed down with a second helping of servility.

Please note - this is a review of the bar only (having read the reviews of the restaurant it feels like it deserves a different rating). I would say that Sir Gilbert Scott bar is as Victorian as it gets in London - completely over the top, almost Russian in its unapologetic splendour (this complement comes from a Russian). So if you re up for some old style chic - this is your place. Cocktails are wonderful, snack food is not cheap, but certainly good value for money. Thanks! We ll be back once again and again.

Oh so lovely this one. Definitely recommend for drinks if you want a quiet place to converse whether it s a catch up with friends or a causal romantic date. I went here with a friend I had not seen in a while and we had some drinks before food and returned for a hot cuppa. It s right in the middle of St Pancreas so on a rainy or cold winter night, it s a night out but you don t need to be outdoors. I have been a few times anyway. Wine lovely, slightly more pricey than your regular bars but you pay for the service and it s defiantly worth it.

After posting the negative review below on Google I got a phone call from the restaurant, offering to pay me back for the Bloody Mary that I was charged "in error". Actually I am quite impressed, so am happy to amend my previous 1 star review to 4 stars. The Gilbert Scott dining room is beautiful and worth the price of the meal alone.

The Gilbert Scott restaurant itself is beautiful, and the food decent but unexceptional.
