Amazing! I follow them on Instagram and was so happy to finally get there. Their whoopie piea are incredibly delicious!
I got the cheesecake brownie and I would give it a 4/10. The cheesecake part was dry and tasteless and the brownie overall had an artificial taste.
Absolutely amazing as always. Love a bakery who doesn't put nuts in their carrot cake. They were helpful over the phone and in person.
Friendly staff but I didn't like the cupcake at all... cake part was dry & I don't know what type of icing that was. I prefer buttercream... I wish I would have went to another place.
Flying Monkey creates and bakes delicious cakes and sweets daily. It is popular among locals and tourists. One of their best selling items is the Pumpple Cake, which offers a layer of white cake with embedded apple pie, over a layer of chocolate cake embedded with pumpkin pie. Top that off with a delicious vanilla buttercream and you have a dessert that will satisfy any sweet tooth.
So many inventive bars, cakes and other baked goods. With tons of seasonal offerings, you'll always find something new with each visit. One of my favorites is the S'moreo which is a bar of homemade marshmallow (with a touch of honey), diagonally half dipped in dark chocolate, and rolled in crushed Oreos, yeah, it's awesome.
Fruity pebbles rice krispies and cookies and cream whoopie pies are the bomb.
The whoopie pies are great. Occasionally they have a creative cake/pie that really blows you away. Worth its place in Reading Terminal.
Visited near twelve, it was not full. The staff was very helpful and observant. Prices were good for how much you get. Similar to a cafe in Las Vegas I liked.
They are very originals. I used to live in Philly 3 years ago and I loved their cupcakes. Last weekend after 2 years of my last cupcake there I can say that I'm very sad because they are not that good anymore. I mean the cupcakes are yummy but not like they use to be.
Come here for the whoopie pies, which are the perfect whoopie texture. The filling was tasty, and their cookie to filling ratio was spot on. Service was quick.
Tip: Call in 3 days in advance for the spumoni.
I bought the butter cake and I must say it was so delicious. So delicious that I ordered a pan to be delivered to me here in Atlanta. I was super excited to get it but when I did it was nothing like I had at the bakery. Sure the taste was the same (pure goodness) but the size was very small and thin. At the bakery they have really thick bars and that is what I was expecting. I called to let them know and they were really sweet about refunding my money as well as sending me some butter cake bars. For that reason alone, I will always support this business. Friendly and great customer service. Can't wait to visit again soon.
Do yourself a favor when visiting downtown Philadelphia! Also order days ahead for the whiskey basted brownies! OMG!
Great baked goods and very friendly staff. Never had a bad treat here or anything less than top notch service. Try the apple hand pies.
Stopped by during my yearly book event & visit to Reading Market, purchased 2 boxes worth of goodies, and Kris was delightful while handling my order. The peanut butter cupcakes could use a little more peanut butter taste (according to the receiver). But the vanilla cake truffles were super yummy and sugar was great!
I love sweats, this place is the best hands down in the city. Oh you want butter cake, they have several to choice from that rival what I've had in St. Louis. And thats just the start, Smores Bars, Macaroons, Cookies & Rice Krispies and of course Whoopie Pies. You won't be disappointed I brave Reading often for this place alone.
Oh my! Just ate the chocolate vegan cupcake. Not only was it the best vegan cupcake I've ever had, but I would eat it if I could have dairy!! Reading Terminal Market is fantastic, and there are many choices. I found the staff very friendly, and at mid-afternoon on a beautiful Sunday, there was still plenty to choose from. Considering the 2 hour drive to get another cupcake.....
I ran in because I wanted something sweet and with being vegan sometimes it's hard to find a great vegan cookie. I was disappointed with the vegan chocolate chip cookies. It lacked flavor and it was hard which let me know it wasn't fresh. I wish there were more vegan options available for me to try but there not. Unfortunately I won't be back.
How in the world did this whoopie pie get best of philly!? The cake part was Good, however the filling was a no go for me! This rating was based strictly on that whoopie pie! They have a great selection of other treats. But I only grab what's voted for.
The cashier wasn t attentive at all. We stood 2 minutes before she came to us and then was very short and rude with my baby sister and I. I understand these are tough, but kindness is one thing we can hold onto.
In town for a few days and was recommended to go through the market. I ordered a slice of the sundae layer cake. It looked just too amazing to pass up. However the layers of cake were so dry they were almost crunchy, and the frosting was like a greasy non-flavored whipped topping with very littler sweetness. I think the red frosting was supposed to have cherry flavoring but only had the flavor in one bite. Potential is there but missed the mark. Staff super friendly, but with so many other options available I would suggest trying another shop.
Amazing every time! If you're only able to get one thing, get the butter cake so good!
Went to the flying monkey bakery to pick up some whoopie pies for an office birthday party.
while I was there I decided to get a single slice of cake to put the candle in. It was like a the "turducken" of cakes. The top layer was apple pie and the bottom chocolate/pumpkin pie. Hard to explain, but it was tall and really beautiful. Well... The person served it to me in a small clear plastic takeout container which squished the slice and made it into a blob. When we plated it, we had to perform some magic to make it look like presentable.
The whoopie pies, which are their specialty were ok, but not great.
Stopped by the bakery stall today and got two things - lavender cupcake and slice of butter cake. The butter cake was amazing - rich, sweet, delicious, and good texture contrast. I would HIGHLY recommend. The lavender cupcake was so-so. The cake was moist but the frosting was too dense and not creamy enough - even after the recommended hour wait to come to room temp. Would definitely come back again for the butter cake.
Very rich! Almost too much, expect to have to split a cookie with aomeone. They are so good! The chocolate is all very dark too.
I am SO pleased to see that they are offering several Vegan treats for my daughter with food allergies. I like to treat them when we go to Reading, but since discovering her allergies, it seemed unfair when she couldn't have anything. Their treats are delicious - the only thing keeping me from 5 stars is the attitude of the 2 men working there today. No smiles, no pleasantries... They made us feel like we were bothering them with our business. Normally the service is much better!
Flying Monkey is one of those spots at Reading Terminal where you just have to try once. Heard of the Pumpple Cake? It's an apple pie and pumpkin pie baked into vanilla cake and chocolate cake laced in buttercream. The cake is massive and 1800 calories a slice! They only make one cake a day and it sells out by noon. Get it fast and get it early so you can burn off the calories for the rest of the day. I feel like the 1800 calorie advertisement is more of a gimmick. It becomes sort of a bragging right to eat this cake and a true guilty pleasure.
As for taste, the cake is just okay. The way the cake is built is more intriguing and since you bought the whole slice, you will just feel like chipping away at it until it is all gone. It's worth it, but only once. Staff is great and couldn't be friendlier. Flying Monkey is all part of the Philly experience.
If I could live solely on pecan bars and vanilla cake truffles, I'd do it.
Yummy cupcakes. They look and taste delicious. They have flour-less options which is great for people who are avoiding gluten. It's not gluten free as it is not a gluten free bakery. So there is cross contamination.
But the flour-less chocole cupcake was delicious. Not dry at all like some gluten free products.
A whoopie pie made with Guiness? Yes, this is the obvious place to get dessert.
There are lots to choose from. I had the cream cheese brownie and a free bite you can get by checking in on Yelp. Brownie was decent not memorable.

My wife and kids used to love this place, but we don't anymore because around 4 years ago we witnessed an african american young men that was working there was screaming at someone and had a kitchen knife in his hand. My wife and kids were really scared.
Delicious! The whoopie pies, butter cake, and s'mores bar were all great.
I was gifted with a birthday cake from here it was so delicious, flavorful, rich and buttery they are they best the have a loyal customer for life.
I had the buttercake and it's easily one of my favorite deserts! I even bought a whole tray of it to bring back to NYC with me and everyone that I've had try it loves it! Will definitely be returning here for the buttercake and to try more delicious goodies in the future!
For me was ok. The cakes weren't expetacular, but they were good
The vegan chocolate cupcake was awesome! The staff member who helped me was also very nice and helpful. I would buy desserts from here again the next time I m in the area.
So disappointed in this cake. Ordered it for my little sisters birthday, went to pick it up yesterday. Although it looked beautiful the cake had no flavor at all. The icing broke apart when cutting into it and the chocolate cake was so hard. Very embarrassing for a 15 year old to cut into a cake amongst her friends and have everyone be disappointed. Luckily, we were able to run and get a back up cake. Also, the girl who handed me the cake was rude. She just sat the cake on the counter and walked away without seeing if I needed anything else like the CANDLES I had planned on purchasing but they guy who took my order over the phone was really nice.
I like one thing here and that is their butter cake - but it's enough for me to give 4 stars. This butter cake is unlike anything else I have ever tasted. They have a few flavors (all which are very good) but the original is the best (butter flavor I guess :P ) So buttery, so delicious. Even a small square is an undertaking so this is best to split with somebody (or at least pretend you split it with somebody!)
Butter cake is amazing, ginger molasses cookies are amazing. Pummple Cake was a pretty big let down, especially at $8.00 a slice. Staff is always friendly and courteous
Excellent food and awesome service! Woopies that can't be beat! They have mastered the recipe for the were woopies!
I was there last Friday with my husband and children. I was so excited to see the Flying Monkey in the market and wanted try a cupcake. I have read many reviews online about them and thought it sounded like the place to go! When we got there, there was only 3 cupcake flavors to choose from :-( We decided on the lavender/raspberry & the chocolate caramel. Well to my dismay, they were both AWFUL!! Not only were they totally stale but the flavors were not good at all. The raspberry filling was so loose and fell out all over! On the other hand the caramel filling in the other cupcake was almost non existent and tasteless! I also have to agree with another person who left a review about the staff. I was waited on by a man with a handle bar mustache. He seemed annoyed to wait on us & overall didn't seem to like his job. Sorry Flying Monkey, we will not be coming back and I will strongly urge others to not waste your money here!!
I chose the peanut butter banana cake, she gave me an old slice in a box (not from the whole cake). I just tasted it, so dry with no taste. I throw it away, Never again.
