My wife and I love the Orchid. To be honest we can not report on the accommodations but since we stay fairly close to the resort we use the restaurants frequently.
We love the calm ambience the Orchid provides. Great food and well mixed cocktails with a fantastic view we could not ask for more.
The Orchid may just be the best place to watch a sunset and view the local honu that rest on the beach in front.
We enjoy the oceanfront trail system that runs for miles in either direction.
One day we plan to book and stay. Highly recommend.

Fairmont Orchid was a definite splurge for us, and we are so glad we did. The property is beautiful, and well maintained. We got a great deal online. Our hotel room was huge, with a beautiful bathroom, comfortable beds, and solid air conditioning. The hotel complex is big, so walking to the room did take some time. The pool is beautiful and has towels available pool side. We never had a problem getting a free lounge chair, just challenging to find one in the shade! There are fancier ones that cost, but we never felt we needed them. Room came with 1 hour of snorkelling gear, and the lagoon was the perfect entry point to head out, and snorkelling just beyond was excellent. They even had prescription goggles. The smoothies from brown's near the pool were excellent. Self-parking was easy and included in the resort fee. Location of the Fairmont Orchid was great - took day trip to Mauna Kea, and had dinner in Waimea. Location was great for that. Spent a couple very relaxing days here. No regrets.
We had a wonderful stay here in 2016. Everything was absolutely great. Nice little beach and a beautiful pool area. The room was great and we had a partial ocean view. Everything was clean and tidy. There is enough parking space espeacially for self-parking. Nearby you got the opportunity to by some beverages snacks in a small supermarket. It is a good location for visiting Kona, Mauna Kea and also Waimea and areas nearby.
Gorgeous hotel with an amazing beach front! Brown's Beach Club has delicious food with an incredible view. And I cannot forget about the staff, by far the friendliest we have ever come across.
Great service. Beautiful resort. Surrounded by a variety of scenic Hawaiian views, from a black sand beach, to beautiful lava flows, this resort has all you need and more.
Great resort but lacking attention to detail in a few places. The grounds were impeccable and the pool and ocean view were beautiful. Most hotel staff were friendly and helpful, but a few were unhelpful and less than friendly. The system for reserving beach cabanas and water sports activities was awful. Many great things about this resort, but didn't quite live up to the 4.5 star hype.
I love this hotel. Everything is really nice, including the rooms. The property is also beautiful. It has hammocks and chairs to watch the sunset and sunrise. Not to mention, there are free activitys every day such as henna tattooing and lei making. An excellent hotel but the downside is that it's expensive.
Beautiful location on water of course but like other reviews I've read I agree that this shouldn't be classified as a 5 star hotel more like 3 to 4 stars. The food is sub par and service at the restaurants is sub par as well. Rooms are outdated and water for bath was luke warm. Was expecting top notch service and was disappointed that the amenities and service of hotel didn't quite live up to their name. I would probably have been happier staying in an airbnb or with family or friends!
Beautiful landscaping lucious grounds, lovely pool and outside jacuzzi the views are incredible. Browns Beach House is good but not great that used to feature a lot of Island Delicacies and Island meet but they don't have those anymore I'm quite disappointed in that that's why I didn't give it a five-star
I came to rest easily without any inconvenience. You can snorkel in the tiny Mayor's house attached to the hotel. The facilities are well-equipped and everything inside the hotel can be solved.
Beautiful location and property. You can't go wrong with the Fairmont Orchid. The staff and property are head and shoulders above the neighboring hotels.
This place is beautiful! Sunset there is unforgettable. I couldn't say the beach is great, but you can snorkel and see much marine life, including many turtles. Hotel has all the facilities you would expect from this class of hotels.
Our plane was delayed and the airline sent us to this hotel to stay. The hotel is famous, expensive and supposed to be good. It has overall very nice japanese/Asian style garden. Most staff members are very friendly and helpful. However, front desk members are not. There are many good hotels in kona. We probably will choose other hotels in the future.
Beautiful outside area. Nice people working here. Several bars and resturants, but expensive. Good location for sun and beaches on the west coast, but not much of anything else. Nice rooms with wifi and pet ants in the bathroom.
This is one classy hotel. Gorgeous grounds and hallways with art and flowers. Top service. All amenities. Cute shops. Outdoor or formal dining. A location for many weddings. Lots of water toys. Nice pool. Top class. And you will pay for that.
This resort is definitely worth the price. Everyone is nice and accommodating. They check on you throughout your stay to be sure everything is going well. After check out, they offer a hospitality room if your flight isn't until later that night. I recommend this place 100%
I feel a little bit old, but I am satisfied with the hospitality. Beach, pool are fully equipped. Even Japanese cloakers are limited in time, so I think there is no problem even if you are worried about English.
Pretty nice resort for hawaii. It has a small beach and pool that is closed so you can get there quite conveniently from your room. Breakfast is quite good with delicious things like crepe, chia pudding, fruits are very fresh. The view, decoration and valet service are very good. The room is nice, clean and comfy.
Absolutely gorgeous! Excellent services! If you can work out the pricey room rate, you cannot go wrong with this option of accommodation! Their pool is under a much needed renovation as the pool depth was poorly misleading to a point that it is borderline dangerous! Extra kids activities were added during the summer and they were all tastefully executed. The beach front is located from a short walk from the hotel, which is an excellent amenity. They also provide free shuttle services to the nearby mall where a supermarket is located. It's very convenient to load up on snacks and drinks for both adults and kids. Their housekeeping team did a fine job with their small touches on my kids' books and dolls everyday, that 'returning to our room' became an event for the kids! The furniture inside the room showed its age a bit with dents and scratches visible. Providing kids size bathrobe is also a very thoughtful touch. Overall, a very well managed property!
Is one of the nicest hotels on the island and around the world. This Fairmont is stunning. The location, staff, environment, activities and food are impeccable. Mahalo
Very relaxing place. The beach cove is great for not worrying about the kids and has good snorkeling. The kids did want some waves though. We got an ocean view room and that meant if you went out on the balcony, looked right and through the trees who could kinda see the ocean. Was not what we were really expecting with ocean view compared to places like Grand Wailea. The property is great.
Nice hotel on the west coast of Hawaii. Reasonably priced compared to others in the are while still having a nice beach area, pool and restaurants. Enjoyed our stay here.
I was wondering if they don't have shuttle from airport or to airport. How did everyone get to the hotel???????We have a trip scheduled for June 23, 2017.
Went to Brown's for dinner. Frank was our waiter. I had the fish special (excellent) and my wife had a perfect filet. Seems like they actually let it settle for a few minutes as opposed to bringing it out blazing hot. My son ate spaghetti and a meatball from the keiki menu, and a generous portion it was. Frank did an excellent job as our server. Checked in at appropriate times, helpful and easy going. All in all, another fine experience at Brown's.
Wonderful resort digs at a price that's fairly reasonable by Hawaiian standards. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Food is delicious.
Concerns include very slow internet despite upgrades. It's partly a reception problem and partly a spectrum saturation problem. I've analyzed the 2.4GHz range and found severe degradation in Wifi Scanner, too. Productivity is substantially impacted for business trips.
There is also a small lingering concern with cleanliness. I noticed some unsightly stains on my carpet. They are clean but unsightly. Once a towel was replaced on my shower with a bit of sticky goo (smelled like maple syrup) on it. I don't eat sweet breakfasts so it wasn't my mess.
Also, no free breakfast is provided. Each amenity aside from basic sanitation goods (shampoos&hair dryer) appears to be charged. There is an odd separation of the hotel base rate and a required additional fee ("resort fee") which is inconvenient for reporting purposes.
Beautiful resort right on the water. Enjoyed our stay with snorkeling out a little bay/protected inlet, relaxing by pool, delicious breakfast buffet with just about anything you might want. We were there for a company rewards trip and enjoyed two catered evenings with good service and food. Would recommend staying here.
This place is wonderful. The only problem is that we needed to be sure and check the bill, for some reason they were trying to charge us an extra night.
Our room was excellent, the beach is beautiful, the staff is friendly and helpful, the bars and lounges are wonderful, and the food is solid overall for resort food (although expensive). Really one of the best resorts I've ever stayed at. Why not 5 stars? The high end restaurant on the beach (Brown's Beach House). The prices are exhorbitant for mediocre food. My fish was a bit chewy and my wife's chicken was dry. Skip it and get a burger or Mahi sandwich at the grill (which has the same view).
We really enjoyed our stay here!! We were on the island for over a week, so we broke up our trip into three different areas & accommodations & this was by far our favourite!
The property was lovely, very charming & well landscaped (not one of those monstrous hotels that feel impersonal) - great little beach area & some of the better snorkeling we had on the island, and stunning sunsets. It felt very intimate & relaxing
Location was great too. Very close to Hapuna Beach, and there is a grocery store & a few shops nearby
The best part was definitely the service; everyone from the check-in staff, to the bell men, and the pool/beach staff were all very attentive & hospitable. We found everyone very welcoming & eager to help with whatever we needed
And were also pleasantly surprised to find out the resort fee was only $35 and includes parking! (vs. the last hotel we were at in the area charged $45/day for the resort fee + $30/night for parking)
Simply one of the most delightful hotels you could wish to stay in. Service from arrival to departure was outstanding. That's the reason why this Kimpton has been voted top of the chain for several years. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Eating breakfast in the lounge (located on each floor) rather than in a restaurant is so relaxing. The grounds are superb and the pools equally refreshing. Would go back there in a heartbeat!! Great location for taking a trip out to Mauna Kea observatories (14,000 feet up) and seeing more stars than you will ever see again!
The location, first and foremost, seems far North on the island compared to most other things you'll do. It's 30-35 minutes to the Airport, and an hour to the town. We went into town yesterday morning to do Dolphin Discoveries, which is a separate review, but was incredible. The Hotel is absolutely stunning, and the valet service is quick, reliable, and polite. There is snorkel equipment for rental, first hour is free, and the snorkeling in the nearby lagoon is surprisingly good. Unfortunately, they were no leis when we arrived, other than the nut ones for boys. Which was fine by me, but my mother wanted flowers. Also, at the Maui Fairmont, drinks were given out upon arrival. Though the hotel did remedy the lei situation two days later, in their defense. Also, getting bottles of water seems to be like getting blood from a turnip, and turndown service sometimes never comes. Lastly, the breakfast place on location is obscenely overpriced. All in all, the hotel is unbelievably beautiful, employees are nice, and willing to help, though service is sometimes lacking. The food is good, though overpriced. And the location is North, away from the Volcano and town. A good hotel overall, the room is clean, beautiful, and spacious, and the grounds are well kept.
