Well can honestly say would not recommend this hotel. Had to pay in full in advance even though I had lodged a credit card on booking. Room facilities listed safe and individual room temperature controls - neither in room and when queried at reception they said not all rooms had them. Why list it as a facility then? Noisy but then maybe we cannot fault hotel for that as location is opposite train station. Room boiling hot but could not open windows at all View from room of scaffolding

Lovely staff, couldn't fault their friendliness and willingness to help. We did however pay for the "city view" room which was very small with a queen sized bed and were sadly disappointed by the view (see photo) The hotel itself is lovely though and the breakfast has a decent selection.

My room flooded and I had to be moved at 2.30am. The hotel knew about the flooding but did not come to me but waited until I went to them. This included risking my life as the water poured into the electrics and the only reason I wasn t shocked was because I had the sense not to turn on the lights. No apology or compensation was offered. Worse hotel I have ever stayed in

Although covered with scaffolding, this is a character hotel with excellent personnel and service. Full buffet breakfast, pleasant atmosphere. My room, a "small double", small but comfortable. No A/C, no fridge. Tea/coffee making facilities available in the room. Enough sockets for charging electronic devices...

Great staff and service, cheap little car park on site but is tight if in a larger vehicle. Rooms are ok and reasonably appointed, very clean though. Rooms can be noisy on a weekend though, but this is balanced between great location and city centre convenience

The hotel rooms are very comfortable, clean and our room had air conditioning. The staff are helpful and professional and the hotel is generally decorated to a high standard. Breakfast was a self service and was perfectly adequate. Overall I found the hotel to be in a great central position directly across the road from the train station making travel easy, the cost was very reasonable for the room and we'd definitely stay at the hotel on our next visit. Happy customer here!

The best of this hotel is location, in front of the Train Station. Otherwise, it is expensive for what it offers. No central heating , have to use a small electric heater. Breakfast! Skip it. It is also very expensive. Not good choice at all! Avoid it!

I give the County Hotel 2 stars because where it is situated for shopping and nights out the room however was small and very hot there was a fan in the room which was covered in Dust windows only open an inch and also add secondary glazing will not be staying here again

Great food and service, yes the building is old but what do you expect from a Victorian building. Staff friendly and courteous and food is great especially recommend the steak and rump of lamb.

Recent two night stay in May 2018. Overall staff and hotel good. Room was a small double. Bathroom was very small and was difficult to get in and out of. I don't regard myself as a large person but door opened very close to wc. The bed itself was a small double and acceptable. The mattress was less impressive, in fact it was very poor resulting in two sleepiness nights. This impacted upon both of us during the day when out and about.

Unfortunately had to postpone stay due to the current situation with Covid, but Marcus at the hotel could not have been more friendly, polite and helpful. Fantastic staff, looking forward to seeing you later on in the year instead.

Stayed here a week for work. Staff were polite, but the experience was hampered somewhat by the rather small room (compared to the station hotel opposite) and a restaurant in which a large tour group seemed to take priority over regular guests - thankfully there are plenty of other restaurants within a close walking distance. The location is brilliant however.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. One of the group got back to their room at night to find someone had got confused (drunk) with the room numbers and their security door card had let them enter the locked room. This was reported at the time to the staff, and when discussed at checking out time with the front desk staff, we were interrogated and treated as if it was our fault. Furthermore due to it being a Saturday night, there was activity with people walking up and down corridors all night which was to be expected. The problem was that all of the floorboards creak in the corridor, the room above, the rooms either side, so we didn't manage to get any sleep. On the flip side, the late night door staff were very nice. Take from this review what you will, but I will never stay here again, plus it was more expensive than other nearby hotels for an awful experience.

Nice and helpful staff with good choice of food for breakfast. But the hotel itself needs renovation. Photos shown while booking are from specifically "West Wing". Be ready to be disappointed if you choose anything other than west wing. Not going to make mistake of choosing this hotel again.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, excellent location, great breakfast. The room looked a bit scuffed, but was clean and tidy. I had asked for a quiet room and got it too. It is a point of attention because the metro runs below the hotel and the hotel is at the front on a busy street.

On arrival, no-one was available to assist with our two large suitcases and four medium bags, so it was a case of "do it yourself". The room felt small (especially when we got our luggage in) but was reasonably clean. Only one set of towels was initially provided for double occupancy. A second set was quickly brought when we asked, but this was a recurring problem throughout the stay, as if staff didn t expect the room to be occupied by two people. The wardrobe was too small, so most of our clothes stayed in our luggage until needed; just as well an iron and ironing board were provided. The bathroom was a bit small with the positioning of wall and sink preventing a satisfactorily comfortable use of the toilet. The shower was in the bath and was comfortable and easy to use. The bed was comfortable. We noted heaters in the room, but no air-conditioning. We didn't use the heating; it was too warm, but had to open the (secondary double glazed) windows to get the temperature down to a comfortable level. A side effect of that was a noticeable increase in noise heard from the street. The hotel is well located as a base for travel around the area, or for shopping or for local sightseeing. Given the limited amount of time we spent actually in the hotel our stay was acceptably comfortable, but next time we ll choose somewhere else.

Very clean room with tea coffee facilities. Also get an ironing board and iron in the room too. Our room came with a big bathroom with decent sized Bath. Bed was nice and comfy with wall mounted telly with the usual channels.

Recently stayed at this hotel for my recent 18th birthday and what a lovely hotel it was. The staff were very helpful and very polite. The room was immaculate and was able to check in on arrival and had massive comfortable beds which had a breathtaking view of the city centre. This was booked at last minute and was an affordable price would definitely recommend this hotel and can't wait to come back

The County is an older hotel, very well known in Newcastle. It's opposite Newcastle Central train station and so ideal for travellers who want to explore the City Centre. I stayed here for two nights while doing business in the City Centre. I was alone the first night and my wife joined me the second night. The public areas of the hotel are well maintained and splendid to look at. You get a feeling of the history and beauty of the building! However, the bedrooms are looking very dated. Our room was a small double with a VERY small double bed. It had just one power socket, an unreliable WiFi signal and was incredible hot and stuffy (even on a normal Spring evening). There was no Air Con, so I was forced to ask reception for a fan to help move air in the room. That helped, but the noise of the fan wasn't conducive to sleep. So, the next day I asked to move rooms. Alas, the room I was moved to was equally stuffy with old windows that don't fully open. It made the stay uncomfortable. The staff are wonderful. The hotel looks historic and gorgeous, it's just the actual facilities provided in the rooms are no longer in touch with ones modern travellers expect.

We were just passing through, and this hotel became our place to get to know Newcastle quickly. For one night it was just right, but I would not want to stay longer. Rooms were small and especially the bathrooms needed maintenance. Breakfast was enough, but nothing special. It's hot everywhere.
