The Cold Spring Depot Review

July 4th 2020 update: Visited this place after almost a year. There was a line outside but it seemed to have been mismanaged by the host as I saw multiple people parties (2) being let in before us because they were in the line before and apparently they didn't move when the line had moved to other side of the street. But then the host let those people in ahead of us when they joined the line later because they had been in the queue before!

Review before: Decent food, good drinks but a bit slow service. Has nice ambiance though!

Good food and good beer in tge old train station building.

Cold Spring Depot is a Great place for summertime dining. There's a wonderful, cozy outdoor patio with ample seating space. Great draft beers and delicious pub food. I personally recommend the Portobello burger, which is big, juicy and tasty, made even better with a side of truffle fries (for an extra $2). Prices are reasonable and staff is always friendly. The location is great, nestled at the end of Cold Spring's quaint main shopping strip, and it's always fun to check out the old fashioned shops before dinner. Highly recommended.

We got here at 6:43pm it is now 8pm and we are still waiting for Nachos.... never before in my life. The server was very sweet but something is wrong with management or the kitchen. No excuse and completely unacceptable. Scratch that the server was not nice when we asked for a manager either. The manager acted like a spoiled brat and if this is what cold spring is like....keep it. Unprofessional and Rude

Menu is a little limited, but the food was very good and inside, the ambiance was great. We sat next to the table where Bill and Hillary Clinton sat in 2015.

One of my favorites. On a nice day we can sit outside at the bar, sip a good beer.

Touristy town sometimes hard to park. Crowded on weekend.

The food is always good, nothing fancy, just solid good food. The building is the old train station and it has a cool funky vibe.

New ownership appears to be taking The Depot in a new direction - this will be our last visit. The Pub fare is gone and it wasn't replaced with anything. The menu is so limited npw, it's just sad. End of one of the classic restaurants in Cold Spring.

Nice bar with lots of outdoor space in an old train station. Portions are on the larger side. Limited beer selection. Overall great place

Get together with family for a trackside meal! Fun! Good food! Enjoy!

Such a nice place to go relax and indulge after a long day of hike. The ambiance was amazing. Very friendly servers. As I don t eat beef they actually switched it for chicken for me. Loved the burger, it was super juicy and yum. Calamari was super good. We finished like in 2 minutes.

What an excellent place to spend a day eating and shopping in this town. The food here is delicious! I had the tuna burger, get it seared you won't be disappointed. Friendly atmosphere great service. Outdoor seating Fantastic for this great weather.

I look forward to boating season every year so I can come here. Multiple times a year, my friends and I will dock as guests at the Cold Spring Yacht Club and walk up to The Depot.

The outdoor seating arrangements next to the railroad tracks are very relaxing, especially with all the different shrubbery and quiet atmosphere. Each outdoor table has an umbrella to keep the sunlight or rain away. At nighttime, the lights are strategically placed away from the tables so the bugs do not come near your food and also to keep a low-lit atmosphere.

The service is always great. The waiters/waitresses always check back continuously to make sure everything is okay. They are professional but still act friendly and will make small talk with you.

The food comes out at an average speed and is always cooked to perfection. If you order a burger well done, it will come out well done. The food is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I can't wait for boating season to get here. My friends and I are already looking forward to taking our boats over here and sitting outside eating dinner on a warm, summer night.

Great food, great location, great service and beautiful decor. THE place to eat when in Cold Spring!

Food and service were good. Our server was really nice and attentive. If you're sitting outside be prepared for some loud trains passing your table.

Reasonable beer selection. Located right next to train depot. Bartender was really nice.

I have been going to this place since I was a child. I love it here!! Especially when the train drives by!

Had the chicken sandwich, it was great! 4/5 because they served the appetizer after our meal.

This place is so great after a hike from cold spring you ll wonder why you didn t come here sooner. Not only that but they have a massive patio outside during the summer. What better way to enjoy a day than hanging up in cold spring during a nice summer day!!

This place is beautiful! I LOVED the outdoor patio area. It's gorgeous.

Calm, relaxing ambiance and great food, especially after a hike

The staff were nice, the service was good but food was not. The french onion soup was watery, little flavor, was more like onion tea with salt and pepper and not hot as it's supposed to be. The New York steak was not worth the price we paid ( 27 $ ).

Not bad but just really one step up from fast food.

Best place in town by far. Quick and easy. Great service and great food.

A great place for a quick bite or something to sit with good friends.. So close to the River with the greatest views you will ever see of the Hudson River.. Amazingly Beautiful...

Friendly staff. However, they disappeared when it got busy. Chicken sandwich was almost too big. Great old building.

It was my first time getting off at the Cold Spring Station on the Metro-North Railroad, and my first time at Cold Spring Depot. The food was FANTASTIC, and so was the service. Meghan took excellent care of me and was a super courteous and super professional server. The prices were reasonable, too, and I look forward to returning the next time I AM in Cold Spring. Thank you.

Friendly and Personable Staff and the Food was Great.

The food was delicious. Very flavorful. The potions are large.
Waitress was attentive and friendly. She gave us our space and attention at the perfect times. Plenty of parking in the surrounding area and bathroom was spotless. I'm going back to this place and reccomending it to others.

Great lunch and atmosphere busy bar area. Polite efficiency staff and a great menu . A must visit location we will come back.

They have an Oktoberfest menu during the month of October but we weren't in the mood for German food. We all had different burgers and they were delicious! Great atmosphere and a cool location

Excellent atmosphere can be romantic if looking for that. Great Service and food. Not kid friendly more of an antique style decor. Great outside seating.

The hostess was beyond lethargic this line out front was a joke. I was watching this unfold the entire time I ate and was shocked. Half of the tables are empty and there can be 20-30 people in a line out front and this hostess just chats in the back and walks around and seats people at the slowest pace I have ever seen a human being move at. In all reality a job posting for some kind of slow moving snail or sloth would have left this place with a hostess that can seat more than 2-3 tables per hour.

It is a five star review because once we made it through the gates of hell and temperament and proved to the gatekeeping sloth that our patience was made of iron, the food was delicious and well served and the waitstaff was incredibly well trained and better than at a fine dining restaraunts. I had the salmon and cauliflower caesar and they are delicious. Everything else looked great as well.

I would have been more comfortable watching grass grow than waiting for this hostess to seat me at a table again - it was painful to see it.

It's a unique experience dining out on the old station platform just a few yards from passing Amtrak and Metro North trains. The food is ok, and a good selection of beers.

We went on a Monday at 1 when it opened and were surprised how busy it was. But we were sat quick, food was great, beer was great and the staff was very helpful. Definitely recommend !

Went out to eat on a friday afternoon around 2.. not only did we wait 40 minutes to even be able to order food.. when we did it took another 40 minutes. Waitress was never around & only came over quickly when we asked for the check. Food was ok and the service definitely turned me off to this place. never had a problem before and won't be returning.

Excellent food, historical ambiance and pleasant staff. Definitely worth a visit for lunch or dinner.

Great location in Cold Spring, NY. One of the best and biggest outdoor seating areas in town. Friendly service and good food. The trains run close to the outside patio but it adds to the experience of it being the old Cold Spring train station. I would absolutely recommend a visit if in the Cold Spring area.

The Depot is the place to eat if you are a Train enthusiast . You will feel the patio shake as a Amtrak train, hurtles by 20 feet from your table.

The food is good, I had a Buffalo Calamari salad, that surprisingly wasn't overly hot. The salad greens that you get, temper any heat.

I also had a Bacon Barbeque Burger, with slices of real Bacon. It was cooked to order, and I'd get it again.

I had a bowl of New England Clam Chowder that had a good deal of Bacon in it.

Also interesting is the fact that The Depot is Dog Friendly for the outside patio.

One side note for warm weather, the restaurant does not have air conditioning :-( $$$

Also on the weekends it is very busy, and the college kids that are hired as wait staff can become overwhelmed, and service can be spotty / and or rude at best. Also the "Know it All staff", refuses to write down your order, and you will have only part of a meal delivered to your table. This has happened to me MORE THAN ONCE. Sadly there isn't s permanent, professional wait staff here...

I understand that the new normal is challenging and the staff may have been feeling the pressure but that doesn't make it ok to serve a raw hamburger. My wife asked for it to be put back on for a few minutes and the (very nice) waiter brought it back to the kitchen. So far so good right? Shortly thereafter the owner comes out with it still on the plate and tried to say that it is medium well and the red umbrella we were sitting under made it look that way. Now, I spent 12 years cooking in restaurants and I know the difference between raw and undercooked, this was raw. We were only the 7th table to be seated that day, the place wasn't terribly busy and it took 50 minutes for our food to get to the table. I'm so disappointed in how we were spoken to...

So this really surprised me. The Ford here is really good! It wasn't always. Used to be sort of slightly better than diner food. Not any more. Lots of outdoor seating, but it can get hot in the summer, even with umbrellas. Got a gin and tonic from the well, and it was totally fine. And at 7 bucks, a bargain these days.

Me, my family, and our close friends came to this place and it was awesome! My Double Double Burger was very good and it s a great place to eat and watch trains.

Excellent burgers and fries for the price. Service was on point as all servers were following public health precautions at the time. Their outdoor space is phenomenal; as long as you don't mind the occasional noise from the trains passing by. I personally enjoyed being by the rails as did the kid at the table nearby (but socially distant).

I met a girlfriend if mine for lunch, and this was the perfect place to meet up. Cozy, chill and great cocktails! The menu is concise, but what we had was really good! The burgers made us drool when we saw them delivered to other tables, so I ordered one and was not disappointed My friend got the French dip sandwich, and said it was delish! I will be visiting them again

What can I say, we go to Cold Spring for the fries. And not just anywhere, but the Cold Spring Depot. It s worth a trip from the big city, aka Queens. We never order less than 3 servings of truffle Parmesan fries, it s a problem. Thankfully it s super close to the train so we roll just roll ourselves over to the platform.

Absolutely an awesome restaurant, best burgers I had in years!! I had brunch there today with 15 bikers friends of mine, awesome service, delicious food and a wonderful outdoors sitting!!
